I have enjoyed two Pokemon themed hacks of Super Mario World. Super Pika Land Ultra and Pokemon Darkness. In Super Pika Land Ultra, a lone Pikachu wanders into the Mario universe for unknown reasons. (a shout-out to a GB hack of Super Mario Land titled Super Pika Land) The first stage is called "Beginner Greens" which sounds like an easy level, but instead it turns out to be hard. This game is really difficult, levels ranging from plain hard to Nintendo Hard (especially the volcano level which is insane). In Pokemon Darkness, you play as Mew, who has awakened after sleeping for 300 years. And finds out that Mewtwo is causing havoc to the Pokemon world. Unlike most Super Mario World hacks, this game uses a Metroid style life system. Unfortunately you won't be able to get more life than 99 (i.e. no energy tanks). Collect as many coins as you can so you can buy potions, TMs, and Rare Candies. Unlike in the RPGs it raises levels, it makes you invincible for a short time. Defeat bosses to get stones to progress into the game. The hack however is in French, but an English translation of the hack is being worked on. The hacks can be found at http://www.smwcentral.net I would like to see these TASed, especially 100% runs.

Super Pika Land Ultra sounds like a good hack to TAS. A run of that game would look really great considering how hard you say the levels are.

Super Pika Land Ultra does not end right after Bowser (a la Kaizo Mario 2). There are 78 exits in total. There's a ton of added music from Mega Man, Kirby, Yoshi's Island, Pokemon, and a few others. Pokemon Darkness has 50 exits, which you need every one of 'em to get to the Pokemon League. Added music from Pokemon, Kirby, Chrono Trigger, Legendary Wings, DuckTales, Mario Kart, a few others, and one from Super Mario Galaxy. The Poke Ball icons is as follows: Small yellow is one exit, Big yellow is two exits, Red is a boss battle. Jade Forest 1 has a glitch involving jumping on Caterpie that give you additional coins (up to 999,999) and 99 extra lives. (1, 4, 9, 99) A low%/any% run you can skip Dragonair Canyon and Diglett Desert. In Mt. Moon 1, the third door is the way to go. The fifth door has a mother lode of coins. There's yet another glitch involving the shop. For example, I had about 131400 coins and I wanted the Fly HM, but it wouldn't let me 'cause the game thinks I have 328 coins. So that means that 65,536 = 0? It doesn't know about the third byte in the coin counter.

The Caterpie glitch sounds very similar to the Wiggler glitch in regular SMW (chaining a bunch of hits on wiggler in one of the forest levels will cause all sorts of weirdness including 5ups, millions of points, and other things. Royal pain to set up, though, as bouncing on angry wigglers doesn't advance the counter, but does preserve the bounce chain...)

i guess all standart vanilla glitches are in the game because its just a "superfiscial" hack and i always did it on console... its not that hard ;)
How should I know what I think before I read what I post?

ISM has some documentation on the glitch here. It's in Japanese but you should be able to understand the table. 回数 = number of times (consecutive hits) 得点 = score コイン = coins This page may be useful to those wanting to do a TAS of this game abusing this glitch.

Pokemon Darkness low% run Get to Mt. Moon 1 as fast as possible to get 1000 coins for HM Fly. The Zapdos battle and Dragonair Canyon and Diglett Desert can be skipped. The underwater bonus area is a fast auto-scrolling level, It gets to Articuno quicker. Could it be possible to skip the Celebi and Articuno battles? There's only a small stretch of land before the bottomless pit, so it's virtually impossible to do outside TASing.

You know what? Skip Mt. Moon. There's a mother lode of coins in Viridian Forest 3. So it'll get to Celebi faster. That will work... until I ran into a roadblock. I done a running start from a high angle, but I can't jump high enough. No, I did not release the jump button in mid-jump. There must be a force that keeps me from jumping high. So we're gonna have to get the thunder stone no matter how hard we try.

Who says all hacks are difficult to TAS? Some are easy to TAS, especially if the engine is unmodified.

They are. Well I guess we tas hacks because the level design poses a need for more creative strategies often. This is sorta balanced by focusing less on optimization and more towards entertainment. Anyway I played through some of this hack, and i don't think its very appropriate for a TAS. I have no interest in it, anyway :(

Super Pika Land Ultra Chocolate Version: Maybe we can do wall jumps in the switch block temple, to skip all the castles and switch palaces. But we have to complete all the trials in order to beat the game. Watch for the wall jump in one area of this hack.

We have Demo World, Second Reality, and Kaizo 3 runs published. Someone please do Super Pika Land Ultra Chocolate Edition 100%. Tell you what, there is a My Little Pony themed level where you play as Derpy.

Okay. Whenever I boot up Pokemon Darkness, there's no music. It's like the sound glitch on Second Reality Project Reloaded minus the crash. No matter what emulator or console you play it on, it always happens. Myth says it was because of Super Mario Maker. Fact says it's because hacks are becoming repetitive.

Turns out playing a SNES game isn't a good idea on a non-SNES console. Turns out a lot of hacks were made with a popular buggy music editor tool, meaning the music only works on non-accurate emulators.

Turns out a subgenre of modifications to a single game can indeed become repetitive.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

The crash bug exists on Pokemon Darkness as well. We can only play these type of hacks on SNES9x 1.43 and ZSNES.
