Comments

Super Adventure Rockman is the best Mega Man game ever. Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man, also called it the best Mega Man game ever. It features an expansive story, as well as stages with action-packed shooting, with 16 robot masters to top it off. The Robot Masters are all from Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3, leading to some healthy fanservice, since Mega Man 2 and 3 are generally considered some of the better games of the series. They're also tougher than ever, even Metal Man takes more than a couple shots to defeat. Other Robot Master highlights include Flash Man teleport spamming repeatedly, including after every hit, Shadow Man forming up to 4 illusions to attack from all directions, Gemini Man splitting up repeatedly to attack with a barrage of lasers, Hard Man having the durability to take damage from more than 200 Mega Buster shots, and it all goes on. Following the Robot Masters, you enter the underground fortress of Dr. Wily, where you fight Ra Thor, Dr. Wily's most powerful humanoid robot ever, with barrages of projectiles and force fields. And after that you fight the most powerful incarnation of the Yellow Devil ever. What kind of a Yellow Devil has weaknesses anyway? The game also features the other Robot Masters from Mega Man 1, actively assisting Mega Man. Did you know that Guts Man defeats Heat Man all by himself?
The game is so awesome, it required three disks to contain the full game. This TAS plays through all three in succession.

Disc by disc comments

Disc 1

The adventure starts. Metal Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Flash Man, Quick Man and Shadow Man are defeated. Need I say any more?

Disc 2

Proto Man pops up, and also, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Snake Man, Needle Man and Gemini Man are defeated.

Disc 3

The final part of the adventure. Features Magnet Man, Hard Man, Top Man and Spark Man being defeated. And the final stage and final bosses, obviously.
If you think these comments are being nondescript, then... well, just go watch the run itself. Because it's too awesome to just describe in words.

Ending

For the ending, Mega Man uses the most powerful weapon of his arsenal that he's ever had: charging both of his arms at once, and launching the mighty Double Rock Buster at his opponent - all while epic heroic music is playing in the background. This instantly blows up and crumbles the entire fortess. Need we any more establishing that Mega Man is freaking awesome?

FractalFusion: Judging.
FractalFusion: The impression is that this game does not make for a good TAS, with all the cutscenes which the gameplay cannot overcome. I'm rejecting the run.

adelikat Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier

Nach: While a vault makes sense to keep track of movies someone may want to see, this movie is so annoying, the gameplay hurts just to watch it. I don't even find it worth the vault. Rejecting.
FractalFusion: Unrejecting this submission again for consideration into the Vault tier. As of now, it does not violate any of the vault requirements.

Nach: Vault rules have been clarified, and the implied is now expressed. This movie is now found to be in violation of multiple vault rules, rejecting.

adelikat: Unrejecting yet again for consideration under new site rules

adelikat: Well, I unrejected this with hopes of accepting. However, it was uncovered that this submission uses the USA BIOS for this Japanese ROM which violates this rule. This rule is also cited here.
I wasn't 100% sure the correct rejection region here. I settled on "Goal" but if there is another one we use for this type of situation, I am happy to change it.
I’ve been corrected. Setting reason to mode.

Bah, you should just learn to understand Japanese instead.

I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Did you not use the metal blade weapon at Bubbleman?

I personally would reject this. This game is way more fluff than actual gameplay. The gameplay itself is very annoying to listen to, and not remotely entertaining.

In this game, weakness weapons actually have deteriorating returns on bosses when used repeatedly (which is why in most cases, especially later on, it's faster to just rapid-fire with the Mega Buster than use a weakness unless for just the last hit in some cases). Using the Metal Blade ended up being less effective than charged shots.

After watching the cutsceneless encode, I've decided that this game is not an interesting one to TAS. So I voted no for game choice.

Apparently, Oyster overlaid a translation of the game onto his Let's Play of it. http://lparchive.org/Super-Adventure-Rockman/

I actually find it quite surprising that this joke TAS managed to last for as long as it did.

I actually wanted to reject it around April 2, but the time seemed daunting and I didn't want to watch it, and there were so MANY other runs that needed rejecting.

Let me get this straight. Even for the Vault, this run is still rejected (again) essentially for bad game choice? Isn't this exactly what the Vault is for? Last I checked, Vault runs don't have much of a requirement for entertainment value. Rejecting games for being "too bad for the vault" makes me question the reason of there being a vault in the first place.

No, it wasn't for bad game choice.

No, it wasn't about entertainment either. I rejected it for hurting the user. Runs on our site should be viewable, the vault does not have to entertain, but it should not hurt people. Constant flashing and annoying sounds during the gameplay segments make some people want to murder you for even suggesting they watch it. In this regard, I bet you can make a better and less annoying movie. The problems with this movie is also larger, that due to unskippable cut scenes taking up the vast majority of the run, we may actually run into fair-use issues here.

I think Nach's verdict text should've been clearer and elaborated on the idea about the movie "hurting the viewer" (first time I heard of it)... which in some cases can be a viable point, I guess. Although here I'd say it's an exaggeration. Because while watching the movie, I found it boring and annoying, but not dangerously so. There are about 4-7 minutes of gameplay in the movie. Is it enough? Also, would it be an option, in a case it was published, to use a cutsceneless encode instead (helping with the fair use issue)?

I've used it in the past.

Well, it's not as bad here as the other times I've used it, but I still find this movie to cross the line.

Is the gameplay itself annoying, or just the movie?

No.

Wow, looks like SAR really puts the "video" in "video games". In fact, it's more of an interactive movie than a video game. Still, I think the animation in the cutscenes is alright, and could have probably made for a short 2 or 3 episode OVA spinoff instead.
