Contrary to the Chameleon Twist 1 TAS , all 6 levels need to be played through in order to reach the end; Sky Land, Carnival Land, Ice Land, Great Edo Land, Toy Land and Pyramid Land.
Before you ask, there's no difference between the 4 chameleons apart from their look. I went with Fred because his depressed look makes me laugh.

Comments

I had never played this game until I started TASing it last year. I had other projects at the time so I never really started a serious TAS attempt. I had a look at bobmario511 and Kyman’s WIP and found some improvements here and there.
On January 29th, a commentated non-TAS run by aleckermit was uploaded. I thought it was pretty good and that Chameleon Twist 2 would, like I thought, make a good TAS.
I then contacted aleckermit asking him some general advices about the game. He was really interested in helping me and had already uploaded a WIP. Funny enough, I didn’t even know about the speed power-ups present in the game (nor did bobmario511 and Kyman); aleckermit attempt was really fast paced and motivated me to start the project.
After countless retries in Sky Land, finding more and more improvements each time such as new death warps and insane momentum-sustaining techniques, we finally came up with a big skip and were finally able to finish Sky Land. Overall, we ended up saving 3 minutes and 10 seconds over bobmario511 and Kyman’s WIP.
I then pursued my work, doing each stage at the best of my capacities. Even if aleckermit doesn’t have any input in this movie, he helped a lot by giving me advices and making videos about stars locations and possible game-breaking strats:

Tricks used in this run

Too lazy.

Comparison table

Here I compare the times I got in each stage with aleckermit's times (taken from his non-TAS run). Since there weren't any better/TASed Chameleon Twist 2 run, those were my goals to beat.

Special thanks

  • aleckermit: HUGE thanks to aleckermit for everything he did to help this run.
  • sonicpacker: he encouraged me and gave me feedback throughout the run.
  • bobmario511 and Kyman: I used their work for comparison.

I watched all of the WIPs as you released them. Fantastic run and I can't believe how such a simple game could be so entertaining. Obvious yes vote.

I also watched every level that you uploaded, and so I can definitely give this a Yes vote. This is an impressive and quite fast-paced run! I haven't watched aleckermit's speedrun, but I think the skips are really planned well.

N64 TASer of the year award has already been decided in my books. Anyways this TAS is awesome and I am very glad that we didn't finish without knowing about the speed power up. Yes vote.

Wow, That was an incredibly fast paced run. I dare say that this is even star worthy! Great job Nahoc! The different routes, the jumping abuse, the parachuting trick & the well planned death warps make this run extremely entertaining. A Strong Yes Vote from me.

That was highly entertaining, I had no idea the game could be broken like that. Yes vote.

Very nice! I didn't know about this game, and I'm quite impressed, first of all, how much better it is than the original game. For instance, it has: Better music, better stages with less loading time, a character that actually looks like a chameleon, speed powerups, and boss fights with health meters! The run is very cool too. The manipulation of speed powerups was great, and some shortcuts were quite surprising (especially the one in Pyramid Land that looked like you were backtracking a lot). Great Edo Land was my favorite stage, up until the boss fight. Strong Yes vote. In fact, I'd say this is the N64 TAS of the year (at least so far). Screenshot suggestions: * Grabbing a bunch of little guys during the burger boss fight (Carnival Land) * Near the end of Great Edo land, when you make your tongue in a loop flying on the way to the boss platform * Most anything in Toy Land would probably work well, especially early in the stage.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I honestly thought the comments in this thread where overblown. Then I watched the movie. Wow, that was pretty awesome. The psuedo-death abuse was interesting. Also, damn, he looks like the single most depressed hero this side of Final Fantasy.
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

Yay! I was with Nahoc through most of the process of making this run, he is truly a genius TASer. Very creative and never takes the easy way out of a complicated routing situation, he redid multiple parts of the just run to save small amounts of time. N64 TASer of the year IMO.

I agree, and I think he should've won it last year.

I like this one. It's funny how long the tongue is, and it also shows one of the many sequence breaks in this run.

This one also gets my attention. It shows what looks like a hard sequence break to perform. This is my second favorite of the ones you posted.
