Man... I love Hip Hop. Been listening to it since I was a Baby Fist. I listen almost daily to artists like Busta Rhymes, Kanye and Jay's new fine album, Dipset! Dre, DMX, Method Man, Royce Da 5'9, cypher from Royce, Joe Budden, Eminem and Busta. I would love to know who else out there like Hip Hop and Rap. Haters begone! Feel free to discuss who is/was the greatest Hip Hop and Rap artist of them all. I'll leave you with in my opinion the hottest and best track of 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gyLR4NfMiI&ob=av2e Busta killed it! Enjoy!

Throughout most of my life, I have had little to no respect for the genre of rap and hip-hop. I've hated most of it. However, about six months ago, one of my friends from Ukraine, who is an enormous rap fan, started linking me to an incredible number of different songs. While I disliked most of it, to my surprise, I did find songs and artists that I really enjoyed. In particular, there were 4 that I thought were very talented; k-os, PackFM, Tonedeff, and Hilltop Hoods. Link to video Link to video Link to video Link to video

Having grown up in the 80's MC Hammer's U Can't Thouch This has special nostalgic value. (Ok, the song was released in January 1990. Still feels very 80's nevertheless.) On the other hand, listening it today, it sounds quite hammy (no pun intended). Many dance songs of that era have the same effect (but aren't rap/hiphop per se). Some songs by Eminem are cool too.

I love hip hop as an idea... I'm not a huge fan of a lot of it in practice, especially what goes on the radio. Sampling, street art is great. Selling cars and hating on women, homosexuality really turns me off. I'm mostly in it for the beats but once in a while a rapper will blow my mind (for example, the link AngerFist shared at the beginning, Busta totally tore it down. Much respect.) For those of you who think hip hop is for gangstas only, I will pretentiously reference the epic album "...Endtroducing" from DJ Shadow, one of the best DJ's of my time... hip-hop without rap :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmzHRGoKca0 Also much love to the pioneers in the dancehalls of Jamaica and the early dj's in NYC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lDCYjb8RHk (sampling kraftwerk ftw) Hip hop forever, ditch the big labels :D

I like extremely few rap songs. Weak riffs, monotone sounds. The song AngerFist posted is a good example of this. Sorry Mr Fist. :/ Here is one which is good in instrumental version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dHi2xIuXx4 Another one I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXzg0D-cKds - The original is awful though. I thought this had a good riff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFK6H_CcuX8 - but then I realized Stevie Wonder wrote the original, which is even better. Edit: Fixed link, thanks for the heads up IronSlayer.

Heh, "Army of the Pharaohs" is one of the main bands my hip-hop loving friend linked me to to get an appreciation for the genre. The problem with them and that particular song is that while I like half the MCs, I can't stand the other half. I am a fan of Vinnie Paz, though.

These two videos are the same...unless you're implying that Stevie Wonder wrote the original Kirby theme. :) Focus- This is a cool track; Link to video[/video]

IronSlayer will probably appreciate the lyrics in this one. :P Two more examples: [1], [2]. (Sorry for MySpace links, there are no YT versions with not completely mangled sound quality.) Perhaps the most unique Russian rap project. Unfortunately, it has ended its existence.

"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Rap is not really my favorite genre, but there are some good songs, like this, mostly because of the message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTYI3BlAx54 I'm not sure this counts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-blfPCOeLQ0 JXQs songs were pretty good too.
