Technically there's nothing new going on. Reverse walljumping has been used before, though rarely for any good, as has walljumping on opening doors, though never on horizontal ones as far as I know. The application here is so fucking cool/sneaky/smart though. Blew my mind.
And then, just as I though the rest of the run was going to be standard (brilliant) fare, you went all Wave+PB combo on Crocomires ass, and opened the left door with a wrap-around shot (was that the charged shot at the energy tank, or the shot at the vertical door?). All around A+ jolly good work.

Speaking of new things, you forgot to mention the CWJ off of Croco himself :P
And yes you are correct, the charged wave shot is what was used to open the left hand door early.
After rewatching a couple of times, here are a few questions:
Couldn't you have bombjumped all the way back to crocomire after its e-tank? Or would that have been too slow, i.e. missing croc's return?
I'm curious to see how you're going to deal with lower norfair with the amount of items you have. Lacking beams, you'll need to manipulate both energy and PBs (possibly supers) for ridley, lots of 'em. And you cannot spend more time farming energy than picking up the gauntlet e-tank would have taken. I can only assume you have a plan and/or a testrun already done for that?
You didn't use NameSpoofer's method of entering norfair through the exit. Are you confident your route is faster, or was is merely a stylistic choice to avoid xray-glitches?
The thing at 19550 frames.. looks like a CWJ done on flat ground o_O Does that work anywhere else in the game?
Well, I was certainly damn impressed. I'm really glad to see some action for this game again.
As I like to say, there can never be enough Super Metroid on this site.
Btw, in blue Brinstar, when going to collect the Morph Ball, can't you do a CWJ when jumping from the elevator (around frame 18784) to reach the upper platform faster?
CWJ doesn't make you move faster, regardless of the direction. The only purpose it serves is continuing the forward motion where it would avoid a full stop; thus mostly useful to jump over short platforms with higher speed carried over from elsewhere.
In that particular place you jump once and can't skip landing (which brings Samus to a full stop), but a CWJ there would also require you to jump earlier without having Samus pick up enough speed. It would be slower.

Thanks moozooh! I think i understood. The CWJ is used to climb only when trying to reach higher places where a regular jump wouldn't reach.
Btw, i've been thinking about this RBO. TASes are usually made to entertain and for that the TASers pick up the highest difficulty of the game, even if they need to use cheats or whatever to enable this setting. Super Metroid doesn't allow you to change the difficulty of the game, but it seems to me that the RBO is the hardest way to play the game. So wouldn't a RBO obsolete the any% run by entertainment and because it's played in the hardest level of challenge that the game offers? I know that the game would have a slower completion time, but it seems to me that a RBO would fill better the requirements of TASing than the normal route or the any% run. Of course if the site doesn't create a new cathegory.
I'd rather it had its own category. RBO TASes have been in the works since 2005, and most of SM TASers worked on them in one way or another; it's really a shame we haven't had a single submission as of yet. But hopefully that will change with this run.

Amazing WIP. It's cool to see you guys managed to team up on this difficult project, as that should guarantee a solid performance both strategy and optimization wise.
And we already have one example: The early bomb-/HJ-/enemieless Blue Brinstar E-tank, which I admit to have dismissed as impossible without trying much in my previous RBO attempts, despite knowing all the needed techs for it by that time, and also because I kind of rushed to make rapid progress due to everything else already planned out. Clever find and obviously a huge timesaver.
As a sign of appreciation for this effort, allow me to share something that might be of use for any RBO run using an optimal TAS route. Actually planned to be a surprise for my RBOv2, I don't mind spoiling it anymore seeing how well this run is coming along. I didn't finish that run due to other TAS projects, and might as well cancel it if you guys manage to meet all the goals I have set for my version, so good luck with it.

Enjoy!
Really cool fine, Saturn, and great to see you around! So you kill all enemies without the use of missiles or Supers and yet the single pb opens the door in the left. Really cool!

Nice WIP so far guys. For I while I thought the project was abandoned. I'm really glad to see someone pick it up again. These definitely some really interesting things you guys found, I can't wait to see more!!!
Also nice find Saturn!!! Kills all enemies opens the door and saves a Super Missile. Hopefully they can hex that in or something. BTW other TAS projects??? Are you working on a 100% run of this game??? GOD I hope so, that's something I've been dying to see a new one for a while now.

Since this question has gone unexplained, I could try tackling it...
I think a single dip is unskippable if optimizing for time, but in any case the amount of energy they potentially lacked (15) when going for LN wouldn't in any way affect the next major energy recharge—Crystal Flash at LN entry. I've also checked the amount of time they had spent killing popcorn for refills afterwards: there was pretty much no delay anywhere.

Ugh, I thought I had answered this already but clearly I failed to press the submit button. In my defense, I was having some computer issues at the time.
The acid dive was used to optimize the energy we would get in the refill tanks. Any excess energy in the refill tank only wastes time in the beginning of LN.

Well the only difference between this run and the old one is that we have one less Super Missile pack, in exchange for Grapple. There will be some complications, but nothing we haven't thought about ^^.

We already leave the room with maximum Super Missiles, so I'm not quite sure why we should bother, especially because the opening of the door is only useful if we would go to the Blue Brinstar tank.

Kriole, not that it matters much but your version might be a few frames slower because you had to fire at them, thus creating extra lag?
