Mega Man PC - the single worst game of the entire Mega Man series. Designer, programmer, graphics and sound were all produced by one man, Stephen Rozner. Here is a TAS. I'm... sorry?

The Order

Sonic is weak to dyno, volt is weak to sonic, and dyno is weak to volt. However, Volt is the only boss I use another boss weapon against. Also, dyno's stage has ants that can't be killed without sonic's weapon, so Sonic first!

The glitches

Perhaps not a glitch, but bosses have no invulnerability - this means they die, very, very fast to any weapon. I found one useless glitch in Wily's stage. If you die at the same time as a boss- before the camera restores to being focused on Mega Man, the camera focus movement gets saved, and loaded when you come back to life- thus, you end up visually inside a wall, but the game plays as normal - the level graphics are just offset.

Nach: Being quite familiar with this game both on a 3x86 16 MHz, and on much later CPUs, this game looks like it's emulated properly to me. The speed-throttling is left up to the user to decide. This seems to be a decent TAS. However the game is utter garbage.

How funny, just recently I was thinking, "I wonder when someone will try TASing those horrible DOS Mega Man games?" I guess I should be careful what I wish for... I'll probably end up voting yes but I'll wait for an encode just to be fair.

Is taking damage from that ball thing that you shoot around 0:17 unavoidable? Also, wouldn't it have been faster to take a few low jumps on those first conveyor belts opposing your direction around 1:30, like you did on the last one? Other than that, it's nice to see this game TASed, finally. Probable yes vote.

Wow... That was one of the worst ports the worst port of a Megaman game I have ever seen. Technically, it looked good enough. Entertainment-wise it fails miserably... Well, a video that displays NES Megaman and DOS Megaman side-by-side (or alternating) would entertain more... You would now see even better how bad this port really is.

Oh, this was laughably dumb. In this case, I find it kind of a shame the game's so fast, you can barely tell what's even going on, which its clean and well put together visuals (sarcasm, sarcasm) don't help with. I also enjoy the game's bold use of music and sound effects. Either way, it was quick and pretty entertaining, thus a yes vote. Also, I second Mothrayas' wish for MM3 PC.

This is actually a pretty big problem with the game - I had no idea how fast it was, before TASing it. The problem is, it is CPU throttled, i.e. it runs as fast as your CPU will let it. Thus, the only way to slow it down to 'intended' speed it is to seriously throttle the CPU. However, as a judge - if this were accepted, I'd accept it with the caveat of "Will obsolete with a slower movie due to lower CPU speed emulation." In the mean time, VLC media player will slow movies down - I suggest watching it at 50% speed - Perhaps an encoder could create a 50% speed file? Also, thanks for the quick encode, Ilari!

Oh man, I remember trying this as a kid, and I don't think I made it much farther than the first dog enemy. Given that, it's satisfying to watch this game being ripped apart. On the other hand, the simple sound effects with no music were pretty annoying (they fit better with Duke Nukem than they do with this game). I'd say this merits a Yes vote. However, this does raise the question: have people figured out a policy on which game speeds are acceptable for PC games which are CPU throttled? We had this same issue with Syobon Action and with Spider-Man.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! If that's the case, how exactly do we determine what the actual length of the run is? I'd say this makes the game unsuitable for TASing (or, more precisely, unsuitable for a TAS to be published here). It's a bit like speeding up an emulator to get a lower completion time of a console game. Completely unacceptable. (The TAS might be acceptable if there's a reasonable "official" CPU model and speed at which the original game was intended to be run with, and then the emulator is set up to emulate exactly that.)

According to this page, the sequel lists a 386/25 as one of the requirements, so we could use those specs for this game as well.

Having played this game many times on a variety of machines, I would like to point out that there is an option for in-game throttling, though I forget the hotkeys at the moment. If I am remembering correctly, only certain speed settings (the top 2?) were truly CPU-dependent, with the lower settings running at a fixed, and sometimes painfully slow, speed. I'm not certain if this feature will be sufficient to completely eliminate the CPU-variation, but I think it is worth an investigation. ... ... Though I understand the entirely counter-intuitive nature of reducing game speed settings to run a TAS. :-/

This is really the only thing about the run that bothers me. Maybe we should call it "Megaman on Crack". Under the current settings, the run moves along at ludicrous speed, to the point that it's hard to follow what's going on, and is almost comedic. That aside, I really don't have any complaints; I think that for a DOS game, the visuals are acceptable, and the near-continuous action combined with the run's very short duration makes it a clear yes vote from me.
