It's fairly obvious that 2 player should be considered only for a portion of the overworld of SDW.

For SMW, I don't really see a usage, unless you can somehow carry items over for both Mario and Luigi, and even then it's a long shot.
The logic that most people apply to it is that you could cover levels quicker because you wouldn't have to backtrack at all. Which is really stupid because the SMW 100% is really fluid with little backtracking at all.

-misty isle 2: If you are big mario, you can get the p balloon then get hit and you should be able to keep your (52) speed. I was never able to make this work due to still having to get over the tall pipe at the end. 1 -you've watched all the wips here? so you know to screen scroll in desert world 2 a and run through the floor etc? and fly in water world 2, and the yoshi flight + yoshi wings thing in water world secret. -water world 4: perhaps you can cram yourself through the ceiling here with pswitch and key. it saves you swimming around the corner. 2 -water world castle: there is a p switch in the first room. 3. I don't recall ever testing to see if it was faster to go get that and swim with it than to skip it. In room 2 walljump to hit the coin block instead of jumping off the pswitch block 4 -crystal cavern 2: at the beginning while you fall down press R to scroll the screen. this will let you pound the buzzy beetle for the pswitch sooner so you may not have to slow down and get p speed back up again. 5 -crystal cavern castle: find a way to fall through the floor and fly under the first room. -sky world 4: Don't go inside, fall through the corner at the end. 6 -it might be better to get the shell for pipe world 2 at ice world secret instead of sky, so you can use fireflower on the castle bosses of sky and ice world. This works because you don't need yoshi for pipe world 4. -at pipe world 1b when you dive under the map at the beginning, fall through the corner. -at pipe world 3 you should be able to boost through the ceiling with p switches in the pswitch room. you might need 3 of them because I don't think the timer is long enough to let you finish the level if that's where you stomp the switch. 7 -you don't need yoshi in pipe world 4. you can fall through the pipe just fine without him. -pipe castle i really want there to be a way to clip through the floor and go to key immediately, but i can't figure anything out. 8 <- here the pswitch (near the top of screen) is from just to the left. you might be able to boost yourself through those blocks with it since it can go through them. if jumping high enough is a problem then use one of those bouncing koopa guys to help. would let you skip trip to get the vine. -just realized, if you do 2) in my above post, you can bring a shell with you in reserve box for the yoshi wings in sky star world. -secret star world the key above spawn can be turned into yoshi wings with the pswitch. getting yoshi past back door star world probably requires luigi though (starting at reznor fortress save). -big boo world 3 also luigi yoshi 9. Perhaps this combined with secret star world would make getting luigi worth it, but probably not. Only if you can skip boos tower I would guess. -boos tower on the 84th floor 10. If you use the cape and a shell you can get two of them to boost through the floor near the blue switch, or maybe you can do some voodoo magic to duplicate it to the side and get the blue switch right there. I think that's all i've got other than stuff like when moving left try to be in the floor when running which you know to do more than me anyway. There was a caveat to something I was saying here, but I don't remember what. I've not timed/tested/verified/etc anything here. For those of you yammering on about luigi being worthless 1) you're probably right 2) but this isn't smw and 3) obviously you wouldn't take him for all 120 exits for 120 map transitions. save and exit at an appropriate place, get two player for luigi yoshi magic, give mario a game over once you have completed all your luigi yoshi magic. I think it's still unlikely that 2 player could be faster, but I do think it's worth looking into. >>The logic that most people apply to it ... Which is really stupid Yeah, we've been doing this a while. Even :DK knows that luigi won't do in smw. btw, on a completely unrelated, L+R jump down to bowser.

Thanks for this massive list of improvements. Right off the bat I can tell you idea #1 won't work. TheFinalBoss726 has already constructed a demonstration of this and he lost roughly 100 frames (I might still have the .smv handy). Also, I am proud to announce that bahamete has joined the project! Also, the 1st Work-In-Progress video for the "120-Exit" project is up! This showcases up to the beginning of Water World 1, finishing two whole worlds. Link to video Link to the .smv is located here. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Whose runs are you comparing to? I think one of them is mine, and the other is Chef Stefs is that right?

I am trying to do a flashy TAS of super mario world, But I am having trouble finding good tutorials and specific resources to do cool tricks. Besides this website theres a few youtube videos but really not much at all. How did people learn to tas mario and make it look so flashy? are there websites and sources that people can direct me to?

How do you shell jump? I can never seem to get the timing down. Also, how do you do any other shell related tricks that you might feel like sharing

They learn to make them "flashy" because they have researched the games themselves and read the threads and guides in here. Many people here also have a good sense of style. Watch the TASes, use frame advance and input display to your advantage and learn. Then, innovate.

Well, all you have to do is land on the shell a short while after the shell has been thrown (I don't know the exact amount, but I'm going to guess ~30 frames). Its best to throw the shell near the height of the jump, so that it doesn't start falling faster than you. As for related tricks, there's stuff like block duplication or the Yoshi glitch for sending them through walls (and mid-air shelljumping, if you count that seperately).

I'm not sure if I sent the movie to the sdw120 workers, so I post it here. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/704613075/sdwbow.smv ISM found (2 or 3 years ago?) that Lakitu's cloud yields a way to skip the most part of the phases in bowser battle. The memory addresses of the cloud overlap with those of bowser, so manipulating its position forces bowser to throw mechakoopas QUITE sooner. It brings us an improvement over a minute.

Not sure if that's meant as a joke or something, but there's no way to get a Lakitu's Cloud into the reserve box except in SDW 100%.

Would it be possible to spawn one in SMW at Bowser with the item swap glitch?

You can only item swap sprites that are already in the level. So no, you can't.

No, because it spawns right when you enter the level. You also need full sprite slots to be able to swap, which isn't possible in the Bowser battle.

Well, nathanisbored has just discovered the craziest glitch ever. If we item-swap a chuck so Yoshi swallows him, we get something strange in reserve. The current tested cases are such: Charging Chuck - Naked Green Koopa Bouncing Chuck - Key Clapping Chuck - Goal Sphere Here's an smv of the latter case. This will become very useful in 96-exit and sdw 120-exit, I think. Perhaps even smw and sdw any% runs.

Craziest ever! Well I tested a clapping chuck with various powerup status: Fire - Goal Sphere Cape - glitched item (no idea what this is) Damaged (or small), Small, Big - Game crashed So another chuck with another powerup may give another reserve-item? Waiting for further tests.
