Thanks. I work on this because Sonikkustar used to suggest me TAS Waku Waku 7,also a fighing game. But that would be boring to me because I must use one character to the end,so I give up to make this one.

I haven't seen the video (Chinese streaming doesn't open here) still waiting for a YouTube Encode, can't comments on your TAS. I was addicted to fighting game series few years ago, especially played and mastered The King of Fighters Series 97-2K2 and so on.. made several combos videos, anyways I watched a KOF 2002 speed run from a member or Cyberfanatix.com last year, you can have a look at that Speedrun, Author did some crazy combos & utilize the power guage to charge BC Mode... have a look at it here. Link to video

Sorry, but this usual combo video was very much less impressive than this TAS, it uses unrelated background music, and it doesn't even fight against CPU.
But the combos are better. If x2poet did at least these kind of combos in a real fighting situation, I would have voted yes. But sadly, his combos were smaller and less impressive to watch. By the way, I wouldn't be able to do better. I've tried TASing a fighting game, and it's hard. And also, the music doesn't count.

I have already do the best combos with the limited 3 power guages. If I choose the rom PLUS or Hack 2005,I can use craziest combos from the beginning to the end. That's what you want but not suit the rule.
Do the work.

Let me put it this way, you had some very artistic moments, but a large portion of the video was just ho-hum. In the absence of game-breaking glitches, if you had done more things like baiting and testing the limits of hit detection that might have made this a yes vote for me. Like get the CPU stuck in a routine of attempting the same attack over and over and hit the CPU out of it with various attacks that demonstrate weird hit priorities and counters. You did some of that, and when you did it was fun to watch, but there wasn't nearly enough of it. The abuse of the game and the CPU AI routines needs to be more obvious and complete. The game must not so much be dominated as humiliated.

As much as I am a big fan of KoF games (KoF 97 being my favourite), I have to say that this run isn't entertaining at all. Several fights are just "let's push the opponent to the right and hit him a lot of times". I'll admit that the Athena VS Clark fight was funny, though. Sorry, strong no vote per bad game choice, and weak meh for execution. (I voted no in the end).

This is true for nearly all of the fighting games TASes published here, even one that's a recommended movie (I only don't say all of them, because I think the MK4 TAS deserves its tool-assisted label). Through proper segmentation, experienced unassisted players can achieve similar results. Although admittedly there's technical complication in making these types of movies, such as AI manipulation, I don't see how this alone can be enough technical merit to warrant publication, as movies that consist of simple manipulation of dice throws/coin flips and perfect clicking of menus are most likely rejected. IMO the difference between "this movie is entertaining" and "this movie should be published" must be addressed more carefully when voting. It's pointless to TAS a fighting game unless you can do something that really needs tool-assistance to be done. I've already noticed this behavior when I submitted a joke run for April Fools that was entertaining but I wouldn't publish in a thousand years. I don't know whether to follow my opinion alone or to take into account the common opinion, so I'm abstaining from voting due to my strong bias against these playarounds. Sorry for the negative comment, x2poet. I'm actually a silent admirer of your work and appreciate your effort to expand the Arcade TASes section.

Nice post, p4wn3r. You raise a really good point about the difference between being entertaining and being publication-worthy. At this point, I don't really know where this movie stands in regards to this difference, though. I did like watching this movie (thanks for also providing the youku link, x2poet!). I think the combat moves quickly, and the random teams keep it fresh. However, as Mister Epic points out, there are fewer interesting combos you can do when your combo meter only goes to level 3. Also, fairly little of this feels tool-assisted to an untrained eye, with the exception of the Athena vs. Clarke fight and the AI manipulation. Nice job, x2poet, with making this run! I'm just not entirely sure if the run shows off superhuman playing in a way that our published fighting game runs do. If more of this run had surprising gimmicks like Athena vs. Clarke, I'd be happy to vote Yes. I think I'll vote later; it will be either Meh or Yes.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

This bored me pretty quick. Combo moves are rather trivial in a TAS sense, if you know the game. I believe a decent fighting game needs some level of graphical glitching or obvious unintended actions to be publishable. Simply beating up the other player is akin to a run-right for justice movie.

Glitches must use the solid charaters and using 2 players to show.So it is no use in this run.

what was the Athena vs. Clarke fight everybody keeps mentioning? and p4wn3r made me realise even if I liked the TAS, maybe there's not much to it that feels superhuman, so not really publication worthy…

It happens during Stage 3, at 3:14 in the encode. Athena starts running into the corner early on — but that's okay, because Clark keeps running up to her and jumping at her without doing anything. She also tricks him into using his Napalm Stretch anti-air throw when she's too low to the ground and far away for him to catch her.

Does that mean you could be adding 2-player fights in the middle, full of glitching and other tricks? I'm downgrading my vote to 'weak Yes', when will this new version be published? +D

I agree and add that it's almost the same issue as that with TASing an autoscrolling shoot-them-up game.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

You could have waited for the judgement, because there are published movies that are boring.

Actually,I don't think this one can be accepted, and it still need be more entertaining. I do this one only in one day,and have a try on fighting game. Maybe sometime I would submit a better one.

Watched the Youku vid and was way more entertained than I guessed I would be from reading the feedback. Not much really spectacular happened but the character variety and relatively short length kept it from growing stale. So solid work and a (now useless) yes vote from me. Will be looking forward to an improved version.
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?
