What time do you estimate you could get in Time Attack mode for Wily 1, if you didn't have to worry about refills and weapon energy management optimization?

There are a few other areas I can use the buster as well to waste time, which means I no longer have to refill the Wheel Cutter, Rebound Striker, nor the Solar Blaze. And the Commando Bomb needs only 1 small pellet. Time to redo Wily 1 :|
Although it's sad you have to redo Wily 1, that was excellent planning on your part. Questions about Wily 2 are totally going to come up in the submission thread but I think you made a very good decision. Great work on this.

Yeah, I expected as much. But I do have some ideas in mind that will keep the entertainment up, which I'll reveal with the next WIP. And I'm going to keep the path I take as straight forward as possible. I want to keep the fact that I'm limiting myself as hidden as possible from the audience.

Well, Wily 2 definitely takes the cake as my least favorite level to TAS. As I mentioned above, this level is designed in such a way that there is a limit on the minimum time this level can be completed. I found over 300 frames of improvements over the course of the level, but completing any screen even 1 frame faster would result in a pillar coming down to block my way. This would result in a loss of more than 400 frames. Proto Man and Bass should have a much better time with this level due to being able to make it past the pillars before they are at a lethal height. In any event, here's Wily Stage 2 in 1:59:56. Hey there - can I have a look at the latest dtm? I want to make sure we will be able to play this back / encode this on our own when the time comes.

Sure thing. Let me know how it turns out. And could you also tell me how many rerecords have been counted thus far? I started using r7506 about halfway through Wily Stage 2. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y25FY939

Your current rerecord count is 1695.

Interesting, thanks. The .dtm should get you almost halfway through W3.

So, for the record, the Windows build of r7503 I have on hand seems to play back the movie just fine. My own Linux build... doesn't (it fails to get past the initial Wiimote warning screen). I suspect this may be because I'm running a 64-bit system and/or missed an option somewhere, so I'll keep tinkering with it (there's a patch I want to use in ripping this movie that would force disable texture filtering so it looks nice and crisp). EDIT: after some effort putting together a 32-bit Linux build, I was able to ... get exactly the same freeze as the 64-bit build. Odd. In any case, it appears to sync under the conditions you're TASing in, so we should be good to go at the appropriate time (someone other than me may have to rip the movie, though).

That's too bad. Would be great to have a crystal clear encode of this run. Found another interesting glitch. Some of the Mets in this game shoot 3 purple blobs instead of bullets. The blobs don't hurt Mega Man, but up to 3 can stick to him. If Mega Man has at least 1 blob stuck to him, every platform he stands on acts like ice. But all that is common knowledge. Well, it turns out he retains this status even on rush jet. As in, I can slip and slide on top of rush jet if I have a purple blob attached. Normally, this would just be a playaround glitch, but I found a way to slide off him right before a screen transition. This gives me the speed of rush jet (which equals full running speed) PLUS the extra speed of sliding. Enough to save a few frames and should look pretty cool on top of it all. It's too bad there's really only one spot where this is feasible.

that sounds great though, and it being possible only in one place may just make it all the more attractive :)

oh ive seen that happen before, i thought it was really annoying. like...in pump man where ya'd need rush jet in that screen with the 2 water shooting tower enemies, if you have a jelly thing on ya when you try to get on jet during the next screen, ya just slip right off jet and fall off instantly..i thought it was pretty annoying really :(

Wonderful work as always, I loved how you exited the lifts section. Just a question about the Block Devil: Couldn't you have used thunder wool in conjunction with the balls to finish him faster? Or is it not worth it?

Unfortunately not. Switching weapons cancels the current one, and both the Rebound Striker and Thunder Wool need time to "charge up". I bounce the first rebound striker 5 times to give it the maximum damage, the second one hits 4 walls, and the the last 4 hit 2. I can't even use the Triple Blade glitch on him because doing so would stop the rebound strikers from bouncing off walls.

Oh, I see. Alright then. I'm really excited because of how much the run nears its completion. And it will be glorious

Yup! Only Wily Stage 4 and 5 remain. And I've already TAS'd Wily Stage 4 before (2:40.48). I did that before I started my full game run. Link to video The greatest part is, while doing that run in the time trial, I was focused on comparing it to Rockmanda's TAS. Using the knowledge I had about the game (most notably, the Triple Blade glitch) I was able to beat it by over 800 frames. Now I'm there for the full run, and with the experience of the entire game under my belt, I'm finding improvements to my TAS! I was only expecting to squeeze out a few more frames, but I found 26 stray frames in one screen alone!

After some wrangling, I've managed to put together a Win32 Dolphin build with (a slightly revised version of) my no-filtering hack: http://www.mediafire.com/?4znqo58vm05pjsg This is activated with the "Force No Texture Filtering" checkbox in the Graphics options. Currently the result of this is akin to MM9 when playing MM10. I can tell, however, that the 640x480 (640x360, really, since it's displaying in 16:9) window isn't quite the game's proper display resolution, and I could use some help in figuring out exactly what that is for future encoding purposes - hence why I'm providing this here. In any case, I'm in a position to dump/encode this when the time arrives. :) EDIT: After poking around with the "Dump Textures" option, it appears that the Capcom and Intl Creates logos are 640x480. They're stretched slightly horizontally when displayed such that they're not quite 4:3, but I'm under the impression that the game's intended to be displayed at 480p, i.e. 854x480. A quick visual check suggests this is probably the way to go and it's what I'll use to encode the run when the time comes.

Almost time to put all that to the test! After a very productive Sunday (or very non-productive Sunday if you ask my girlfriend, lol), I finished recording Wily Stage 4. The only thing better than how fast I finished this level, is how much further I've optimized it. As I said earlier, when I first TAS'd this level I saved 800+ frames off of Rockmanda's TAS. Well, thanks to much more efficient weapon energy conservation, I shaved another 337 frames, bringing the total time for this level down to 2:34.86! I'll encode the stage and upload it tomorrow. But expect to see the conclusion of this TAS sometime this week!

Awesome man. But you shouldn't ignore your woman like that. She may refuse to make you sammiches.

Haha yeah, you're right. Once the run is complete I'm sure I'll be able to give her some quality time again. I've been kind of consumed with this project. Here's Wily Stage 4 in 2:35. 86 Link to video

Just one, Wily 5, which is just a short stage with Wily Capsule final bossfight.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Yep! But I'm in no rush to finish this just because I'm near the end. I want this stage to be of the same caliber as the rest. And thanks for the good idea on the weapon displaying, Mothrayas. I'm glad you noticed that, since that was something I was excited to work out. In fact, by the end of the game, every weapon will be completely drained except for coil (which I never needed any more uses for) and a single pixel on Commando (which isn't enough to shoot).
