Please enjoy the comparison video:
HappyLee: Happy New Year, everyone! I'm more than glad to submit the first movie on TASVideos in 2011, which is also the first surprise of me to all of you. The surprises will keep on coming!
: And Happy New Year to you, coach HappyLee! Mamma Mia, what a world you're living in!
HappyLee: Mario! What brings you here!
: Oh, I've been looking for you for a long time, I tried so hard just to escape from the world of video games for a while, and now I see you, so it was worth it.
HappyLee: Why me?
: Because people know that you are keen on playing Super Mario Bros. And you have taught me lots of skills, such as moonwalking and the shell glitch, haven't you, coach HappyLee?
HappyLee: I'm much flattered! But I'm just your friend, so call me HL.
: Okey Dokey. Surely you are nicer to me than my last coach klmz. But he is such a nice coach, who taught me how to grab the flagpole without the flag falling down, and that was amazing.
HappyLee: Yeah, but I do miss Mana and pom, have you seen them recently?
: Sorry, I can't remember. Oh, my memory is failing, I almost forget the most important thing. I have also come here to congratulate you on your latest success. You beat the SMB warped run of klmz by 1 frame, which I think is the one of the most unbeatable movies on our site. Nice work, HL!
HappyLee: Well, you know, this is the perfect movie I've been always talking about, both in entertainment and speed. How did you feel when I was playing?
: Oh, I just couldn't believe I could complete the whold game that fast. Look, I have even taken a photo of my trip as a souvenir! Well how about that?
HappyLee: It looks cool.
: Running makes me so exhausted, you know I really appreciate your walkathon idea. So anyway, how did you find the 1-frame improvement?

1 frame? 1 frame!

HappyLee: Well, numerous ideas have come to me recently. I thought there might be a better way to slow down the speed in the fish scene in SMB 8-4, so I tested it on 2010-12-18, and it worked. I tried other ideas, too, some of them were extremely close. However, but none of them works.
: Pardon me for my great curiosity, but I'd really to know some of your ideas.
HappyLee: OKay. I'll start with the level 4-2 for an example. The fastest way to move yourself to the right place is to enter the top floor of the bricks, but it is still 2 frames to the next 21 frame boundary. To increase the entertainment, I chose to go through the bottom of the floor.
: Time is up, I guess I have to leave. See you next time if you need me!

Nach: Judging.

feos: Added YouTube module & link to streamed comparison video.

mmarks: Replace Youtube module

Nach: Most entertaining version of this route to date. Nice job on going for highest score too. On top of all that, you found a frame to save as well, amazing! I have no choice but to accept.

Voting No to this suggestion. It assumes that the default is accepting the movie. (Because Yes votes won't have to be justified,) and it leaves users in an uncomfortable spot when the must come out against majority opinion, and it's (in my opinion) not a big problem, because the judges already are responsible for determining a movie by it's merits and just a simple unsupported No vote is vanishingly unlikely to affect the judge in one way or another.
While I can see your point and understand where you're coming from, I feel there still should be some explanation. Mind you, I go from the thought of.. if someone voted no on a submission I popped in, I'm genuinely curious to know why.. from the aspect of the c&c of that will help me improve if I can instead of genuinely wondering why. I dunno... guess I feel it'd help a person grow as a tas'er with that kind of input since almost no one hesitates to praise yet most will to criticize. Never stopped me from hoping to 1 day submit a publish worthy TAS one day when my first submission was rejected. LOL @ the people voting no. This run will never be improved again, you can quote me on that. If you don't know me, let's just say I know more than the average person about this game ;)

HappyLee, why you deleted the screenshot?

Good job! Yes vote from me. I'd like to get some details on this 1 frame improvement, I don't understand exactly how it was saved.

Randil, it is a bit different technique of jumping onto pipes. Pressing some buttons (didn't compare yet) while jumping HappeLee shortcuts pipe's corner, goes thorough it. my first gif illustrates it. And he did it many times, but only in that zone this trick helped him to win 1 frame not only entering this pipe, but entering all following zones 1 frame earlier too.

It's easy, just to slow down the speed earlier. It doesn't need further explanation. By the way, I hope to see the snap in 8-3 to be the screenshot.

Voting yes not because of a dinky 1 frame improvement. I'm voting yes because this run is much more entertaining because he's able to get a higher score in the same amount of time.

I agree with that. I have noticed what seems to be troll voters lately. Anyways, yes vote for any size of improvement of a super optimized run.

"This is the biggest fool thing we have ever done. The [atomic] bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives." - Admiral William Leahy, before the Trinity test. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin predicted a final time of 4:56 for Super Mario Bros. - back in 2004. A single 21-frame improvement would give us a time starting with 4:56.

Er, so it seems that my previous post was deleted together with a few others. I'll announce that my vote is Yes. But this just seems to be unfortunate timing. Whatsoever, I guess there's always need for someone play the role of "the bad guy".

Voting yes for a 1 frame improvement and better entertainment. The end of 8-2 and the beginning of 8-4 were nice surprises, along with the other points mentioned in this discussion. Also, I enjoyed the submission text. :)

I really liked the comparison video, so that I could appreciate the style differences. Also, good job finding a new trick with the pipes. Yes vote. As for discussion of No votes, how about we instead use the following rule of thumb: make a post if you have something to contribute, such as a question or comment on the game / run. More often than not, this means that No voters should comment to criticize facets of the game or run. Similarly, though, plenty of Yes voters comment on what they did like, to encourage and thank the TASer and also to let them know what parts were most appreciated. After all, in the end, what matters most is: is a judge adequately informed to make a good decision? Silent No or Yes votes don't help the judge as much.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

New comparison video includes frame counter, lag counter & input display. The sound of each run was set to its own channel. Just dounload it & compare everything frame by frame ;) Sorry for being so late with it.

Well, the decision on a game like this is pretty simple; in fact, most improvements to published movies are no-brainers. The four questions I ask - was anything entertaining removed from the movie, or is this new movie somehow sufficiently less entertaining as a whole? Is the play sloppier than the previous version? Are there known tricks that were intentionally skipped, or could easily be added in? Does the movie fail to conform to the rules of the site (difficulty, SRAM, etc)? If the answer to these questions is no, then the movie gets accepted. Generally, in these cases, the voting/audience comments simply help to inform the judge, making him better able to answer those questions.
