Since we are TASing games using "cheats", I guess that I will include Metroid.
  • Uses a password to allow faster completion
  • Takes a little bit of damage to save a little bit of time

adelikat: Rejecting due to use of the password. This is pretty much a text book example of what is mentioned in the Guidelines. We also have some precedent.

You didn't even have time to watch it. I hope you didn't confuse it with battle chess.

No voting because this really isn't worth encoding. These submissions tire me.

What exactly are the rules of a run that allows a password to be used?

Games where the goal is to acquire a password are acceptable uses of a password without having acquired it (NES: Gauntlet Legends) Games where using a password increases entertainment or entertainment density are accepted on a case by case basis. You should read this list to get an idea of what is acceptable: http://tasvideos.org/Movies-C4020Y.html You are probably best off posting on the forums before submitting any password run. Games where using the password is basically a free savestate to the end of the game are most often not acceptable uses of a password. Using a password to skip most of an already entertaining run is most often not acceptable. This goes for Metroid, Megaman, and anything else of this nature.

I'm voting "immediate rejection" based on the submitter's apparent immature attitude* alone. *) I seem to lack the English vocabulary words to properly describe what exactly is wrong with it. It could be sketched with adjectives like "thickheaded", "insistant" or "arrogant", but that only gets half-way of it at most and also has wrong meanings.

Ok, I actually watched this run. And I'm actually amused. I wasn't aware that there was a password where you could enter your name as part of the password, for instance. I know that this run is a joke, but for the time being, I'm going to treat it seriously to be respectful. ---- First, some comments concerning the technical merits of the run on its own. You never used the Morph Ball; I don't know if this is because the password doesn't give it to you, but having it would have definitely helped with lag reduction and cutting corners and jumps better. For instance, some of the small pits should be cleared with morph bounces instead, if I recall correctly. Also, the technical quality went down in the room with the Zebetites (or lack thereof). Was I entertained? Sort of. However, the password neutralized all of the game's challenge, of course. The basic Metroid gameplay is not interesting enough on its own, for these few minutes, to merit making this a separate publication. ---- Now, for some comments about why this run is in the queue. Your point is that if cheating in games is valid to make shorter, less boring runs, then this run is acceptable. However, I don't think this submission makes that point correctly. The issue is that Metroid is normally challenging, entertaining, and has a nice pace, but this run goes and takes all the challenge out of it, whereas in contrast, NES chess games aren't generally fun to watch (for reasons we've mentioned at length in the previous submissions), so adelikat's first joke submission actually increased entertainment. I can continue, if desired, discussing my thoughts on this submission, but this may be better done via PM. In any case, my vote is No.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Voted No, and seriously wondering if these kind of actions are going to lead to the submitter having submitting privileges revoked.

Immature pretty much nails it, I think. The English language is sometimes limited in these instances. We don't really have a word that describes his approach. Maybe "stubbornly and inconsiderately persistent" covers it, but that's a couple of words.
I will not use self-reference in my signature.
