I TAS without a gamepad and I do just fine, it isn't necessary. In fact, I find it slightly more natural. Also on some emulators you can have the emu hold down certain keys for you so the 3 button limit doesn't even matter either. Rather than getting people to suggest a game for you, I would personally choose a game you are familiar with, have played to completion a few times and know some of the secrets of the game, including if possible a glitch or two. Oh, and most important of all bring patience, and a lot of it. Try and retry everything until you are sure you cannot do it faster, then move on to the next thing.

I'm not paid enough to think for you, you'll have to start thinking for yourself from this point. Although, if you are struggling with this kind of choice, then maybe TASing isn't for you.

hmm... just after I read this thread I found this interesting tool.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

I suggest you try to TAS a NES game, preferably a platformer. There are quite a few simple platformers that you can try TASing, to get a feeling of all the tools. Here are a few tips: *Kid niki 2 *The smurfs *Hudson's adventure Island *Amagon *Flintstones I suggest that you just focus on getting to know all the tools and the method of TASing before you decide to try and make a run that you'll submit. You need a FCEUX to TAS a NES game.

Actually, I'd suggest something that has been done before. Having a reference can help a lot.
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?

3 button limit? ouch. Uhh... Kickle Cubicle for the NES? Pressing A and B simultaneously seems to be a waste, as does pressing three or four directions, and Start and Select don't have a whole lot of use, so it fits the three button limit. Also, it has part of a test run for comparison done by Blublu, and it's something you can do a single level at a time. Past that, there's room to improve if you're able to figure out how to choose what paths to take to move optimally. Trial and error works, but there's probably a more efficient way if you're willing to figure out memory addresses. There's not a whole lot of "easy to TAS games", but this one seems a lot easier than Mega Man.

I don't know this particular game that you call "G.I. Joe Thingy". I've heard of the "G.I. Joe - A Real American Hero" NES game and the "G.I. Joe - The Atlantis Factor" NES game but not of "G.I. Joe Thingy". I have a request though. I think "Noah's Ark" would make a good TAS. But I fear it's gonna be too tricky for a beginner.
Contra Force deserves a TAS. D':
