It's arguable where the line should go, but I think in this case it should obsolete it.

https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/mario2-hashigo.fmv Here's a demonstration of the ladder trick. It's a Famtasia from-now recording, and thus requires a patched version with from-now fix support.

Genisto, make sure you test out whether it's faster not to take the shortcut in 1-1.

I found another ladder trick which is maybe not related to this one. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/mario2-hashigo2.fmv In this trick, Princess totally vanishes and she doesn't respond to any controls, despite apparently not being dead. What I did was that I grabbed the latter just 1 pixel below the screen bottom, 1 frame before she would have died. What I tried to accomplish (not seen in this clip) was to see if the shyguy that wanders at the top of the screen can be landed on from the screen bottom. Because it can be seen at scanline 240.

What rom was used with that Bisqwit? It says the file is broken when I load.

Famtasia seem to crash when I load the movie anyways. :( Any chance of you outputting that as AVI or something with enough quality to make out what it is?

Hahah, Famtasia vending machine. That's awesome. I'd like to learn how to program neat shit like that someday.

The first replay is Luigi doing a MASSIVE jump from the top of a ladder, sending him completely over a wall that can't normally be jumped. So instead of having to waste 10 seconds going under the sand, he's at the door in 3.

OmegaFlareX - Thanks. I didn't want the spoilers though. I wanted to see for my self.

Just get your Famtasia working. Or maybe someone else can make an AVI...

Agreed - I didn't have the complete patch for famtasia, but Bisqwit just provided the link for it. It took two seconds to download everything and watch it. And, man this trick is certainly going to change a few things. The Luigi time saver alone...well, I'll let Genisto figure it out. Can't believe it's going to be even faster. And a warpless run with this is going to be sick. The SMB2 Zaku glitch. Damn nice find.

You can ask Phil, or download it from the link in my sig. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

To add insult to the mockery, or something like that - it's also possible to do a doublejump from the vine, resulting in even higher/longer jump. Here's a demonstration of completing the first level with Luigi - my favourite all-purpose character in SMB2-USA. I wasn't seriously aiming for time (hence the jump from the first vine), but it gives a figure of what this trick does for time. https://filestasvideos.org/bisqwit/smb2-climbtrick.avi (2 MB) (Please rightclick and 'save as'. I'll ban those who attempt to stream it.)

Oops, I left-clicked it too fast to read your note. Oh well, it just brought up that stupid Quicktime error about not having components anyway.

Yeah - me too. Got a bit anxious (only for a second though). Sorry. I was praying Luigi would come through the bottom of the screen, but it's crazy anyway. What's next, people? Picking up Birdo and throwing him at Wart?

Yeah that glitch was awesome. That should eliminate the nice move at the desert world? Picking up that enemy, placing him on the pillar and use him to jump over the wall. Amazing!

That sound is at the end of every movie. Is there a way to prevent that?

Well, EVERY, goonies 2 AVI doesn't have that sound. Anyway, this is just a minor problem.

I was referring to things that cause NES games to run significantly differently in the emulator than on a real console, as in - character climbs twice the normal speed, etc. These are things that are inherent to the game programming logic, not to the emulator.
So why, in Rockman X running in zSNES, does a full subtank restore 16 HP instead of 28? Of course there can be bugs in an emulator that affect game logic. This just isn't one of them.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.
