Anyone thinking about doing a strider 2 run? It seems ideal for speed running. Many forms of movement, very short even if played normally, rewards both for not being hit and for dieing, and graphics that have aged well. I may give it a shot eventually.

I decided to give this a try This is my first time TASing so I did a test of stage one to get the feel of the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t35uk8v_2B8 The one big obvious mistake is not jumping on the moving platform so it would move me during the cutscene but there are a few frames I could save in other places. You only need to play three stages to beat the game. 1, 2, or 3 and then 4 and 5. So right now I am just testing witch of the first three is quickest.

Wow, that was fast. It looks like this game might be one of the best candidates on the PS for a TAS. Why there was such a low "Strider Rank"? What are you supposed to do to improve it? You said the game rewards you for not being hit and for not dying, but I didn't see too much of that. Or are these rewards something apart?
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Strider Rank is largly based on score. To get a high one you need to collect a buch of items. I should have said the game encorages you rather then reward. The powerup I get at the start makes your attacks deal more damage and have a longer range but goes away if you get hit. Notice how I stop having a purple aura when I get hit. The game also encorages you to die. When you die it resawns you in basicly the same place unless your in mid air. If you are in mid air at the top of a large fall it will respawn you on the ground posably saveing a buch of time ( I have a place in mind ). Also respawning gives you a boost powerup, witch temporaly increases damage, causes you to shoot homeing projectiles, and causes lag.

That was way better than I expected. Make this your first full TAS, I'd watch the whole thing without speedup. Good luck. Edit: I saw your 2nd test run. Jesus frickin christ Strider wtf did they do to deserve that >_<? Suddenly I don't feel so bad about losing to him on Marvel vs Capcom so much.

I did level 2 and 3 both are slower then level 1 so they won't be in the finished run. level 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzvNx7xUNKk&fmt=18 level 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So-Pz4r5H50&fmt=18 I can't do any more on this run right now due to a glich in the first solo fight in stage 1. For some reason I get hit twice whenever I kill him and these hits are completely unavoidable. I have looked at a ton of Youtube videos and none of them have this problem. I also tried it in a different emulator and didn't have this problem. I even tried the Japanese version with no luck. It's very strange, but the same thing also happens when you fight him in lv 5.

Does it matter that you get hit? I mean, I didn't notice anywhere you stating that you were going for a flawless rape-fest. The way I see it is, as long as the run synchs, then a few unavoidable hits are a o k.

He probably doesn't want to get hit because of this:

My main problem is that on the actual hardware it doesn't happen. I guess I could run it but it would just be obsoleted once it became emulated better + it looks sloppy.

I changed my mind, I am doing this game. If it gets emulated better I'll just hex it. I have a question that I didn't even consider before. The game lets you change the difficulty and your life units. Should I play on the hardest difficulty with the least life? I think the only important thing difficulty does is make you deal less damage. And 1 hp give me two unavoidable deaths ( but might make death warping viable ).

You should only change difficulty if you think that doing so makes it more entertaining. Dealing less damage doesn't sound more entertaining to me, but you may know better. By the way, I'm glad to read you're finally TASing this game. :D

Nice test run you have so far errror1. I'd say no when it comes to the highest difficulty, it would just make boss fights longer. Also, I don't think going through the the game with one life bar is a good idea. You would just die a couple of times in the first stage and nothing else would be different (unless if there is some kind of death warping I'm missing). Two questions about your test runs. 1. Why didn't you use the normal slash against the third boss? With the powerup, you can hit the little caps on the right side of the boss while staying on the left. 2. You didn't mash attack when you boosted, was this due to the lag from boosting? P.S. What's weird is that the default difficulty for the PS version is one point below the arcade version (4 and 5, respectively).

Boost causes a ton of lag if there is anything complex on screen. It's not so bad if I do it like the dragon in the first lv. it's when they fly around and home in on a target it get's bad. I am sure the fight could be improved but lv 3 won't be in the run so I'll save it for later.

I am mashing they are just not coming out due to lag. With boost activated the controls become much less responsive.

I noticed the arcade was slightly harder when I was going around testing all the versions of the game to see why I was taking damage. If FBA RR ever emulates strider 2, that run will be better. The arcade it ran on was basically a psx with twice the ram.

You misunderstand me. I mean the little sword powerup you pick up, the extra range you get from the powerup lets you hit the little caps on the right.

That might be faster it's worth timing. But I think doing midi-giri would still kill them quicker.

I just did a play through with PSXjin and managed to pass both solo fights where I got hit without being hit, I'm going to start another run soon, I've watched my old run alot and have a few ideas where time might be saved

So it'll be a no damage run this time around? I can't wait! Also, are there plans to do an all-missions TAS?
