Well, I would certainly like to watch it, and I'm sure many other people (mostly DKC fans) would as well, but as I said earlier, the chance of it being accepted and published alongside the existing categories is nearly nonexistant, so if you desperately want your movie to get published, this is something to consider. However, if being published isn't a concern, then by all means, continue.

Don't mind if you are writing much! I don't bother at all :D. Six frames aren't really that much as me and Arne improved it by a bit more... But I'm interesting to see what you are able to do. You might just have something that isn't included in the new run, I don't know.

Quote: Only so you know... Me and Arne_The_Great are currently working with the 101% improvement run. And we have found a lot of new stuff in it, so we pretty much kick ass at the moment. Hmm... that's odd. I thought the 47:25.3 run was perfect. Oh well... But that definitely leaves me to think hard about what to do next. Anyway, keep posting everyone, because I really appreciate it.

It's far from perfect:). There are some tricks that are in the any% run that aren't included in the 101% run. When we began this run I estimated it to be at least 3 minutes faster than the current run. We will see how close we are going to be to that in the end.

Hello again everyone. After a good night's sleep I have decided to do a TAS of the first world, Kongo Jungle, but nothing more. At least until Tompa and Arne the Great finish their run. Of course, I am not expecting publication, but I will be satisfied if my run puts a smile on a few faces. When will I finish? Well, it will be a while... I am in my last year at high school, and my exams are approaching, but when the December/January holidays come I am sure I will find much more time to complete this difficult journey. So I imagine I will submit it no later than February (Super Paper Mario for the Wii permitting). I will try to give regular updates of my progress on this topic thread when it is appropriate. In closing, I wish the best of luck to Tompa and ATG with their run, and to everyone else involved in this site. Thank you all.

(Hmm... it's been a while since I last posted...) Good news, everyone! Today I completed my TAS of the second level, Ropey Rampage! This is ahead of schedule, but during my exam study time I got annoyed at Super Paper Mario's Pit of 100 Trials, and decided my time would be better spent TASing (my all-important exams can be forfeit). I completed it over about three days, and came out satisfied by the result. However, due to the goals of my TAS, I was forced to forfeit 16 frames in the second bonus level (guess-the-red-balloon-barrel). Unless someone can tell me how to force the balloon into a better barrel, this will have to be an unfortunate sacrifice. Also, a certain section of my TAS seems to waste about 400 frames. This is also due to my goals, but I don't think it harms the TAS at all, as it gives a rather entertaining (for me at least) backtracking route. Just in case you're wondering, my goals are: 1. 101%, with bonus levels completed with favourable outcomes. 2. KONG letters must be collected. 3. Save barrels must be collected. And lastly, I would like to 'publish' a WIP for everyone to see. How might I do that? Of course, I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Goodbye! PS. Are you and Arne still kicking 'Donkey' (ass), Tompa?

The best way to publish a WIP is through Microstorage. Well, Arne isn't working with it anymore... So I'm alone, and yeah, I'm kicking ass :D. It's going to be interesting to see what you have done.

Okay, I've finally worked out how to put my WIP up (thanks to Tompa), so here it is! Please give critical, harsh, demeaning comments on this thread. I can take it! I think I need it!

Jungle Hijinxs: Great run, i have not tas DK myself but ive played DK plenty of times, the only sugestion i can make, drop rambi to jump over the fatty and roll at the end, it will save some frames. Ropey Rampage, i think you missed a couple of rolls and i seriously think you should think about the checkpoint barrels cause to me it looks seriously boring in that point seeing you go take the barrel and get back for the bonus room, loved the getting the kong letters tho, its gonna be a pretty entertaining run, keep it up, but please dont take the checkpoint barrels ^_^

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/718179799/rambi-drop.smv something like that, arne does it better in his 101% run but i did it in real time, but, you get the idea.

Thanks for the comments CyruS. That's fair enough about the checkpoint barrels. My original reasoning was that if I couldn't avoid them all (think Barrel Cannon Canyon), why not get them all? But, like I said, fair enough. However, when it comes to the end of Jungle Hijinxs... I remember I spent quite some time looking into how I could finish the level (I didn't want to plagiarise Arne's run any more than I had to), comparing different strategies, and eventually settling on riding Rambi through the exit. Why? Well, I don't know if anyone else knows, but if a full-on, complete jump with Rambi is executed, it seems to save 1-2 frames. This is how I 'obsoleted' Arne's run in my practice TAS- I jumped through the first bonus level as much as possible (are you reading this, Tompa?). Anyway, I compared Arne's run and mine for the end, and I found I was beaten by... (insert drum roll here) one frame! I used two different frames of reference, and each gave the same result. To be honest, it was a while since I did Jungle Hijinxs, so I can't remember why I did the end the way I did; just that it seemed to be the best way at the time. Perhaps I thought one frame was enough sacrifice in favour of doing something different. In my defence, I doubt I would have overlooked that 'mistake' in my run (at least, I think so...). Also, about Ropey Rampage rolling... I'm surprised at myself for not looking into it. Arne didn't seem to do it (I think), so that's something I could have picked up on. Oh well, I'll see what I can do with it now. In closing, I look forward to your, and everyone else's, future posts. Keep up the scrutinising and close observations, people! [:)]

I agree with no including the save barrels, because that would suck in some levels (Like Ropey...). You don't seem to be that bad at TASing this game. I suggest you use the speed address 7E0E8D 2 byte for Diddy. It is very useful. Well, I don't want to say much about our run, but we used a different method in the end of the level that is faster. But being only one frame slower is pretty well done for a first time attempt (I belive?) About Rambi... How did you time that then? My testing proves you wrong. But however, when you for example enter the first bonus using Rambi, if you jump the first thing you do, the speed will be increased faster. But when it has reached its maximum (1008) another jump will have no effect. If you do, however, jump and land in the exit of the bonus diagonally you could leave the bonus 1-3 frames faster. Every time you land after a jump, and shall continue to the right (Or left, depending...) you shall start a roll. That increases your speed. That's all I have to say for now I belive...

I never thought to mention this before, but unless I can get xenos to become a part of this run (very unlikely), I don't expect to be using a hex editor for the run. Why? Well, lets just say that it's lucky I can even use the emulator for TASing purposes. [:D] Of course, in light of Tompa's and CyruS's pointers about my run, I will redo the first two levels. It shouldn't take long anyway. But the next time I send in the WIP will be when I've finished Kongo Jungle. And when will that be?

Im new to TASing as you all know, but that adress is not for hex editing, is so you can use another programa that watches the speed of the kong you are manipulating at the moment. s9xwatch.exe You'll have to add the info for DKC but sure tompa or arne can give you the adresses. (Thanks ElectroSpecter for teaching me this :D)

Well, i went back to check it now with the memory watcher, and tompa is right, 1008 is the max speed for rambi, and a normal roll with diddy is over 1100 so, it is faster to dismount and roll at the end. I use MSN and im in IRC a lot in case you want to discuss some things im working on DKC3 but for that ive studied both dkc and dkc2 runs just cause donkey's mechanichs are similar to kiddie and dixie's too (in dkc2 and 3) Id love to help you with anything I can ;)

Today I discovered two things: 1. Obsoleting one's own TAS can, at times, be surprisingly easy to do (saved five frames within the first 10 seconds of proper play). 2. The save (checkpoint) barrels that I believed to be unavoidable are, with frame perfection, avoidable! So, now I raise a new question. Do I try to avoid all checkpoint barrels? Hmm... I wonder. Anyone have thoughts? I will add that in some later levels they are unavoidable due to the nature of where some bonus levels spit you out after completion, but are after the supposed end of my TAS, Kongo Jungle. Perhaps its me trying to make too many goals for myself, but I think that it's worth some thought. I await everyone's helpful replies.

Hi everyone! I'm in the USA at the moment on holiday (touring California), so as I'm sure you can imagine, I'm not in a position to continue TASing until probably after Christmas or the new year. Anyway, I thought I'd just let everyone know that I finished redoing my TAS of Jungle Hijinxs a few days ago. It's really amazing how many obscure places there are that frames can be saved in! I tried the Rambi drop at the end, but there was still only one frame saved by using Diddy, which was quickly lost to some poor response on the mainland when I tried to enter Ropey Rampage. At least it looks a little better dropping Rambi than using him to the end. Well, I've run out of net time, so I'll be here in a few weeks. Goodbye!

Hi everyone! It has come to my attention that a GBA version of DKC has a full completion which seems rather suited to my (arbitrary) goals I was doing for the SNES version. If anyone knows much about this version, please do tell (I've barely played it). And don't worry, I'll start a GBA topic thread soon enough. I'll finish what I started with the SNES, just because I said I would (I can't break my promise!), but once I finish I won't TAS it anymore. Anyway, I'm off! Wish me luck getting off Super Mario Galaxy and onto TASing! EDIT: Hmm... I just saw a thread of DKC2 for GBA by Comicalflop, and it was met with pretty bad reception. I think I am in need of everyone's enlightenment again. Please reply soon!

I haven't played the GBA version much either, because it sucks. I don't know much about it either, like the differences compared to the SNES version, what glitches there are etc.
