This is an awesome idea.

This is for the "minimum" run. Is it possible to go backward up the stairs in the lobby through the key door just like when the runner is trying to go through the other "X amount of stars required" doors?

It's possible, but the 2nd floor doesn't load unless you open the door with the key.

That would mean 16 star run, yeah.

How do you get up the endless stairs without BLJing?

Or through 50 star door for that matter :P
This signature is much better than its previous version.

BLJ-less would really add a nice run as far as im concerned.

As far as I'm concerned, a no-castle BLJ would make for an entertaining 70-star run, but it's too contrived. BLJ'ed in-level stars can be seen in a 120-star run. a good 4th (counting CCC-less) category, as aka said, would be completely BLJ-less. I didn't see AKA or SL's response to what I wrote in the submission thread: have you looked into waiting for the BitFS elevator to reach the top while BLJing so you can use hyperspeed to get to the rising platforms, and possibly up them (though iirc you can't hyper up "sliding" surfaces)?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMk1dNemgqk As the video shows, it is possible to BLJ on it. However I'm doubtful that you can reach the top of the rising platforms with it. A bit of experimenting wouldn't hurt.

I was working on an April Fool's day TAS of SM64. I won't reveal the gag, but it won't work with 1 star and I don't think it's possible to get 70 stars. Should I keep working on it? The goal used to be, "Fastest time without *censored*", but a 1-star run would destroy the point.

Now that you've told us that you're working on it, doesn't it spoil the gag for us? I say scrap it and stop actually trying to make April Fool's gags in general.

I say stop. You kind of gave people too much information, and....it wasn't the best idea.

Now if only there was a way to BLJ from the steps to the 50 star door all the way to the Bowser stage. At least 5 seconds could be saved if such a thing were acually exploitable. How come there is no 70-star run? Such a run is still entertaining, and it would be nice to see how fast it would take to collect 70 different stars and go and beat Bowser. With all these new glitches coming up these past few months, a full 120-star run could easily be improved by well over 5 minutes. Here's a question. With the new BLJ tricks coming to surface, would it accually be faster to collect the Bowser keys first, and then do the rest of the run as normal?

The issue of a 70 star run has been adressed, several times. I believe the major arguement against one is that too many people feel that the goals would be unclear, Or have arguements against having a "glitchless" catagory. Especially now that a 1 star run has hit, Iwould expect that a well made 70 star glitchless run could *probably* see publication. There is enough room between a 6 min any% run and a hour and a half 120 star run for a run that shows much of the game, but doesnt apathetically wipe out one stage completely before moving on. I believe that a 70 star catagory would help this pacing a bit.

I doubt the 120 star run could be improved by that much, and I cant see why doing the bowser keys first would be beneficial. It'd just make the run a lot less efficient, if you have to go out of your way to go down to the basement at the start, rather than collecting the key when you're down there getting the other stars anyway.

Well, with BLJ-ing, you can get to King Bomb-omb within 15 seconds... Plus, you can get into the cannon under the island that way. Koopa the Quick will always take 1 minute 20 seconds regardless... Could possibly BLJ to get some red coins faster. (preferably the one by the black balls along with the 100 coin star along the way) Assuming the canon's faster than the wing cap to the secrets, you could BLJ into the canon under the island again. If BLJ-ing into Chain Chomp's gate is possible, that might save 3 or 4 seconds. And this is just BOB we're talking about. Assuming all tricks work out right, that would be... how many seconds faster?

Doesn't the existing run already contain most of the things you mentioned?

My you're right (I hadn't watched the run in a while). I forgot which tricks were used, and which weren't.

BLJ in BoB = 6 really fast red coins. Try it yourself. Anyway, 70 star BLJless run in progress.
