Submission Text Full Submission Page
Uses FCEU rerecording v15.
This movie completes the B-mode of Tetris at level 19-5 in 51 seconds. The goal for this movie was to clear all blocks on the playing field in the shortest time. A few other notes:
  • Almost every block is manipulated (it was necessary for most of the TAS).
  • I chose music 2 because I like it a little better :)
I wasn't sure whether this run was too short to submit, but in the end I thought it might be interesting enough to publish. I'm sure some people, at least will enjoy watching this movie.

I'm setting this to cancelled because of a new trick discovered by alden to remove the pausing (and make the movie much more entertaining in the process).

Well, pausing is even slower, isn't it!? :P

First off, great movie Chef Stef, great style and planning. I also love the end -- tempted to steal one of those characters for my avatar :)

If you want to make a version with luck manipulation without pausing, try just waiting (with the game unpaused) before holding down. I think that works to manipulate luck.
True, the next piece seems solely determined by what frame it appears. So mashing buttons etc does nothing. Unfortunately at this high speed, holding down doesn't actually speed up the bricks, so not holding doesn't change anything. However, if you hold left + right and down all at the same time, the falling brick and the "next" brick start flashing, and the falling brick does slow down. Using this technique, here is a version of Chef's movie without pausing. It uses the same set of pieces in the same order -- slightly lower score because it does not get the holding-the-down-button bonus. Still a strange graphical glitch, but not as severe, and the music doesn't cut in and out...

Great job, Alden! Chef Stef's manipulation is fully intact and you've removed the pausing! I applaud you. It looks great. :)

Agreed with Lex. That trick does make the video look better in my opinion. I still don't know how I feel about a Tetris B run in general though, so I'm not going to vote.

I vote no on the submission in favor of alden's .fcm. It is aesthetically much more pleasing (and also 6 frames faster?). But I am not sure how I feel about having a 19-5b movie. The current run is much more impressive.

Wow, I didn't think there would be a left/right glitch for this game... Okay, I'm going to cancel this submission, since it can be made much more entertaining using alden's trick. I might submit another version later (unless alden wants to submit his) if I can minimize the manipulation needed (and save some extra frames). Edit: Are enough users interested in a new version of the movie? I just want to make sure before making and submitting another movie for this game.

Yeah, I'm still interested/impressed and knowing there can be an even better run aesthetically is great.

Can this be done (with a bot) with acmlm's currently published TAS?

I would like to see this done as well. Though I don't know how useful a bot would be. It will probably have to be done manually.

I for one would definitely like to see a B-style run published. Adelikat said that the A-run is more impressive, which is true to a certain extent in that it is longer and it works in a smaller space. But I would argue that it's more repetetive than the B-run and the B-run is impressive in it's clearing of the whole board. I think it takes more planning. (not to mention the much cooler ending!;) They're short and I think there is room for both. I will submit one if Chef doesn't :) As far as using the glitch on Acmlm's run, yes it will have to be done "by hand" but it's fairly trivial. I plan on either trying to obsolete the run time-wise (if i'm that cool) or at least revising it with the new glitch...
