If you really wanted to get the best result in DDD, you'd need set the camera to freecam, which would mean wasting actual ingame frames in the run, and then hold R in the first section where Mario swims vertically. Unfortunatley the great difficultly this would pose is that you wouldn't be able to see Mario, which would then mean having to deliberately let go or R every frame just to see what exactly happened, and given the exact nature of precision the swimming, it would be entirley beyond my patience and free time to get it frame perfect, all for no reward becuase people would complain that they couldn't see anything. Unless there was some kind of Mario cam hack, then doing it wouldn't be so hard.
I think the new submission should be sub-15. Come on, Roger Bannister didn't "almost" break the 4 minute mile.
I'm confident that the new improvements can result in a run of at least 14:58.
What do you mean by that?
Weatherton: Even if you can't get on the sub with it, I think your idea could still save far more frames than are lost by switching to lakitu cam (what is that, like 3 frames extra when you exit a level?) before entering the tunnel which is long enough to maybe save those frames, in only straight lines so it shoudln't be as hard has AKA claims. i.e. you'd let go of R right before exiting the tunnel.

try the wireframe render on the graphics plugin. sometimes it gets garbled (inside levels) and sometimes it's clean and nice (in the castle). maybe in DDD it looks nice.
True, you could let go of the Lakitu cam as early as you want... It would likely still save time if you did it for even more of the level as I was suggesting and as AKA was lamenting.
*EDIT* FODA, excellent idea, that wireframe plugin may be the perfect solution to making this possible. Of course, one may wish to consider an entertainment tradeoff and not do more than one ENTIRE star (just use it multiple times for the tube.
I am referring to the strategy used in the run of waiting to collect the Bowser sub star so that the level has not moved yet. I was commenting that this seems like a smart strategy in theory but, in practice, that sub introduces slowdown so I think it probably looses a whole lot of time.
Holy crap! I'm half way through, but I had to stop. You just BLJ'd to the island in Rainbow Ride. This can now be considered a CCC-less star! Did I miss that in the other thread? I haven't been following it because I finished my non-assisted CCC (and two kinds of CC) quest, so this is huge news to me.
TASing or playing back a DOS game? Make sure your files match the archive at RGB Classic Games.

Indeed mr_roberts_z is aware of this trick. :) It was posted long time ago in this or the CCC thread, I cannot remember.
Yep, it's even in the CCC testrun, but don't watch that...it'll make your eyes bleed. This guy found it and posted it on the GameFAQs board only a few days before I decided to start the CCC TAS, IIRC.
Its definitley worth testing whoever does an improvement, although I would hope for a better result than that, possibly being able to land in the pipe but its probally impossible.
Question: You know how if you glitch through the last locked door you have to go through, there's an invisible wall you can't go through? Well, it seems to me that the "bad seam" that's gone through with Robert_z's glitch is before the wall. So, couldn't you do a 15-star run by using the bunny to go through that locked door?

The 'bad seam' isn't before the invisible wall, and even if it was the upper floor of the castle isn't even loaded so you couldn't get anywhere.
Also, MIPS can only be used in the basement and taken outside as far as I know.
Well, now that the CCC run has kind of, uh, flunked, we'll (me and Rikku, we've been planning it for a while) just get started on the [fully optimized] Coin run...
...which will probably also be rejected. But still be entertaining. :P Anyway, despite the even thinner support for the Coin run, we'll try to give some updates.
