3rd world finished. I did some testing and found out that Kirby is faster than Coo in the water, so I left him behind. Rock is needed to break the seal for the rainbow piece, and I found out that the miniboss can be finished off real quick with it. Nothing else to say than that.

Here are some thoughts:
Did you make sure to test whether using the rock made you fall faster anywhere else?
Did you also test if jumping to the second platform in the cloud bouncing game would be faster because you might not fall as far?
Also, your speedboat swimming style is cool, but please only use it when necessary because it takes up a sound channel.
put yourself in my rocketpack if that poochie is one outrageous dude
I'm sorry for only watching this now, but is there any way for you to boost your speed using the parasol floating ability? It sways back and forth, but if you land before it goes backwards I think it should give you a small distance boost.

Well, the only place where I could've benefited from using the parasol would be 1-3 door 3 (the only place where I've could had used it anyway as I don't have it in any other world so far), and the tests came out negative.

Do you need to record in Super Game Boy mode? I'd like to see what you're pressing, but SGB mode shows the buttons as always being held at pretty much all times. Other than that, nothing to say except it's coming along pretty good.

I have to record in SGB mode as the rules enforce you to do so if the game can run in it. And as NrgSpoon says, you can hide it when running the movie.

Very true. ;)
Time for an update then, with a new WIP.
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5193/KirbyWIPw4.vbm
The reason for the slow progress is because I took a week off from this project. I'm back now though, and will keep going until the finish line. Also I'd like some help on the girl blob. If anyone has any knowledge on when/why/how it appears, that would be great. As of now, I only know that it can appear when you defeat a miniboss and you already have an animal friend.
Enjoy the WIP.

There are few things I'd like to test if you did not :)
2-1
You could take fire ability, then bird, then use fire ability to break blocks at the end of level...
3-1
Isn't rolling down after getting stone ability faster? (after seeing your behavior at long vertical stage I think rolling is ineffective... never saw that in action though)
3-boss
which victory dance is faster, with or without fish? or are they same? You don't seem to need fish in bonus level, so if free dance is faster, you should drop it after boss is beaten...
4-1
Just wanted to say that frames where you get fire ability are cool =)

1. Taking the fire ability takes ~100 frames which won't substitute travelling faster to the door or breaking the blocks at the end of the level.
2. Rolling with the stone is slower in any slope than sliding/walking/flying or whatever.
3. According to my tests, all dances are the same, but I don't think I tested the fish. Gonna look it up.
4. Thanks ;)
Glad there at least are some people interested in this.

I'm setting up a goal from now to play at least one level a day (not including bosses). If I can keep it up, the run will be finished in ~16 days. You can kick me if I don't make it.

The WIP looks fairly good, though I have one question.
Against the third boss, why not use Kine + Stone to attack the boss rather than ditching Stone? You can attack it through the entire battle rather than just when enemies come out.
Also, as far as the girl blob. As far as I know, it is random. But I do know that the level that will cost the least amount of time to find the Girl Blob, in case you can't get it on a first pass, is level 5-3 - you get to choose who to use right at the start of the level. If you need to go back for Rick - who as far as I know is a a requirement for world 5's Rainbow Drop - that's the level to go to.

I didn't test it throughly, but my first impression when trying to use the stone was that it took really long time. 3-5 hits with the stone took away one point of life. So no, I don't think it could be faster.
Actually when I was running it yesterday I managed to make the Girl Blob appear in 5-3. On your second point, I see no reason to why you would need Rick for a drop - he only strenghtens the attacks of Kirby really.

If you can actually get rid of both walls blocking the Rainbow Drop in world 5 without Rick and survive the second one, I commend you. I don't think it's realistically possible on a console, and considering the angles and tight spaces I don't think it's possible on an emulator either.
Rick + Spark acts like Beam from other Kirby games, and it's the sweeping and range that allow you to break both walls surrounding the drop. Coo and Kine can't make it past the first wall, and if you try to jump to reach the second with solo Kirby, you don't have enough time to recover before dying from the bottomless pit in front of the second wall, no matter how little time you spend using Spark. (It's not even close either.)

World 6 WIP
Nothing to comment on really except that the boss was really hard to manipulate. There probably are faster ways of manipulating him, but this is the fastest I could find. Enjoy.

It seems that after I defeat Dark Matter (the boss coming when you have all Rainbow Pieces), you can choose from either sound, bonus or boss. Sound means you can simply listen to the soundtrack from the game. In bonus mode you go through all the bonus stages again, and in boss mode you get to face all the bosses once more, without any abilities.
Would any of those be valid in this run? I think it would get repetive to go through the same stages all over again, but that's just me. Thoughts please.

Hmm, the sound thing would be pointless, imo. The bonus stages were already beaten once, so that would get repetative and the boss fights, too, were already completed once before, so there wouldn't be any new material there either. I think simply clearing out the main game is more than enough.
