in the phil/genisto 2 player movies, does one of you tend to always be first player/second player? I would imagine that if the project is interrupted in the middle, when you resume playing you continue playing as the same one you were from before, but I'm just curious to know if one of you is always 1st player so it's just more interesting to imagine the players. For example, which of you was flying around ducking during that battletoads boss battle, heh, things like that. Additionally, does genisto post here under a different alias?

Genisto is the 1st player and I am the 2nd player

I was just wondering how to double jump? Is it possible with all characters, and on the original NES? Thanks

Use search on this forum. It has been discussed two or three times already. It is also probably explained at SuperMarioBrosTricks or something. Quick question indeed...

I searched the board and didn't find any evidence of a full SMB2 run without any warps or anything, other than the recently submitted one that was rejected for being weak. Is this in progress by anybody? I would like to do it if not... I find warpless runs interesting as you get to see every stage done as fast as possible as opposed to the game as a whole.

Yes it would indeed be a great run. The way that author did it... wasn´t great. I didn´t see the run but if he stole the first 2-3 minutes of Genisto it should be rejected regardless if the following run is good or not. That´s a thing you just can´t do in my opinion.

Hi, I've been wondering - could I persuade anyone to do a warpless SMB2 (USA) movie? ^.^ I'm not good enough by far to do one myself (not even with slomo, rerecording and all that), but I've always liked the game a lot and would love to see one. Just an idea. ^_^

Regardless of the answer, don't exercise it here.

Cool, thanks. Now all I need to do is find a ROM for this - I have SMB2 as a cartridge, so I guess it should be OK to download one. ^_~ BTW, Bisqwit - would it be possible to include the MD5 or another hash of the ROM file used with the movies? That would make it much easier to determine whether the ROM you have really is the right one for the movie you want to view...

Would the movie authors wish to submit a hash along with the movies? What about those who don't know how to get one and input xxxx or "I don't know" instead? I'm not going to do that either, because in many cases I edit the ROM manually (to remove "DiskDude!" garbage etc), and that makes the hash not match anyone else's ROM. There currently is a game version tag - I want to believe that's enough. I don't really want to concentrate much effort on ROM-related things. Instead, I'll try to have the AVI files as good to watch as possible.

So, out of curiosity, the SMB2 fastest run has improved multiple times. I'm wondering if any of these improvements could be applied to make a faster Princess run? I personally wouldn't work on it (at least right now while working on Rockman and Forte), but I just thought I'd put this idea down...

I thought of the same, and I believe it could be improved (maybe sub-9 minutes). The Princess run was created when and because none of the previous movies played a single level with Princess.

Hmmm...although I wouldn't really want it (since I'd prefer the Princess-only run) I guess a Princess\Mario only run would be an interesting counter\opposite to the Luigi\Toad run, heh.

What's so great about the princess run, anyway? It's slower and shows off less tricks than the mixed video. It just seems like a suboptimal run when using other characters would have been faster. I don't understand why it's recommended, there are other videos that are better IMO like, Zelda, Metroid, and Batman.

At one point the princess solo was the fastest SMB2 run available.

At one point all the beaten SMB2 videos were the fastest. But we don't keep all of those recommended.

Sub-optimal character runs are somewhat similar to sub-optimal path runs which attempt to beat every level while skipping warps. For some games and some paths, practically nobody would want to watch it. But sometimes a character is popular enough that there's enough incentive and reason to want to make and publish such runs. When I played SMB2, there was the usefulness and funness of all the characters, but Princess Peach, by far, was my favorite character (as I imagine it was so for many people). So, just as we've enjoyed a full-item run of Metroid and we've anticipated a full-exit run of SMW, I think a good number of us (and the download count for it is good and healthy for its age) enjoy it. So, in short, there's a Princess Peach run because the character is popular. (That's the impression I got, anyways)

So, in short, there's a Princess Peach run because the character is popular. She's Princess Toadstool (in SMB2), not Princess Peach.
