Short version: Saturn's right. I'll try saying it a different way: if you morph too far above ground, then mockball won't start. However, if you hold jump when you do land, then you'll keep speed and bounce (if you have spring ball), but you won't be able to control the jump's height. In this case, you have not actually done the mockball - you just may think you have since you are keeping speed in ball form, but in this case you can't control your jump height. To see if you've done mockball, do not jump at all when morphing into the ball, and see if you keep your speed in morph ball form along the ground, or if you do a low bounce and lose your speed. If that doesn't work, watch the existing run on SNES9x and compare it to what you're doing to see what you might be doing wrong. But if you can't control the jump amount, then you aren't doing the mockball right.

JXQ i got it. i've noticed that once i jump in mockball (full height or not) i have to keep bouncing or else i lose it on the ground. Is there a way not to lose it? (not that it matters one way or another, i can do a series of low jumps to keep it going, but just wondering.)

As far as I know, you have to jump continually or you'll lose the speed.

As in every other SNES (assuming USA/Japanese region) game, 60.

Would an NBMB run be accepted on this site even though it doesn't complete the game? I think that one would be good to watch because of the usage of glitches etc.

Sorry, a no boss/miniboss run. You have to get as many items as possible without killing any bosses or minibosses after the torizo that gives you the bombs.

A no Boss/MiniBoss run. It is a cleanup run of entire Zebes's map which doesn't involve killing any of the bosses or minibosses except for Torizo. IMO, it would be incredibly boring to watch since some of the items require one hell of a setup, sometimes including world wrapping (travelling outside the room's boundaries for 255 screens). Remember that in a TAS, if something is possible (no matter how barely), it has to be done. And that includes getting out of the rooms if needs be. On the other hand, it may be better as a series of SMVs, each showing a way to get a certain item.

That's a good point with the world wrapping thing... Oh well.

Don't get discouraged, though: one of the two runs Saturn is working on currently (and by currently, I mean a long time and a lot more ahead) is pretty much a NBMB run in its essence, since it doesn't get either of the suits, doesn't kill any of the minibosses except Torizo and Botwoon who are unskippable, and kills all the bosses in reverse order, getting most of the useful items before Ridley. So technically, it's a Reverse Boss Order/Suitless/No Miniboss run. :D

Why do people create new topics for games that already have a topic? :/

NBMB is boring and the idea is flawed from the start. I can't imagine why it was published over at M2K2 (not to mention the quality of the run is very low). Brushy, the Super Metroid topic is pretty bloated so I don't see it as a problem to create another topic.

leaving boundaries? world wrapping? skipping bosses? sounds too complicated for me. I'm just going back to playing super metroid and to beat it the right way...

You get stuck in a door then you do the X-Ray Climb which consists of constantly crouching and force standing (force standing is when you stop scanning while turning around). Once you go through 255 screens, you go 1 room to the right

Even if you don't use any screen-wrapping glitches (which I'm guessing gets you 3 or 4 more items possible at the most), this is a boring idea, and it's so anti-climatic it's disgusting.

Hi. You could always improve Terimakasih's minimalist run. But I think moozooh will try to improve that run after his ReDesign TAS run. Edit:

Saturn is also working on any%. It would be ironic to have two or three versions of that run completed after it's been out-of-date for so long :)
