I actually had little to do tonight, and started working on V9 earlier than intended, specifically in improving the second half of Lockjaw's Locker (because I was dissatisfied with saving only 9 frames.) Found many minute time savers, and ended up saving an additional 20 frames. So overall 29 frames saved in that level. Interesting to note is that I found the fastest possible way to go inside the warp, at least 3-4 frames faster than any other possible method due to wonderful landing-in-water boosts. It was purely accidental as well, much like being inside the wall and hitting the cannon kroc correctly in backwards switch #1 in Chain Link Chamber. (only took 1 rerecord- in test runs, by stopping Arne's demo vid it took me hundreds and I still couldn't do it.) Lockjaw's Locker V9 improved I am going to be juggling this with Kirby's Dreamland 3, taking it very slowly, making sure it is 100% perfect, and only releasing WIPs when a world is done. (reason is that daily updates made me rush some levels, I want to take this extremely slowly. I will send WIPs of levels/current progress to anyone who asks.) 10 bonus points to anyone who can verify what Arne's progress is, if he even is still working on any%.

This should be reason enough to at least try to improve the "already optimal" levels. As always, it looks pretty good and LL looks indeed more elegant.

Saved 43 frames in Topsail Trouble. yeah I probably am going to play all levels anyways, even try to improve the optimal ones. Tomorrow/weekend starts the Kreepy Krow rematch for the 9th time, hopefully this time around I know what I'm doing and he'll be going down like a sweet muffin. On a side note, my CPU probably is relle screwed up- not only are my TAS AVI's suffering, but so is my fps in Snes9x. It'll go for 5-10 seconds as 59/58, then plummet down to as low as 35-45 in the next 5 seconds, and this keeps going back and forth. Plus I get the crackly sound so very often. Maybe time to get another computer :( I desperately hope not, laptops aren't exactly cheap and mine has so many loving memories.

I just solved two birds with one stone. Freaking awesome!!! By entering/leaving funky kong, on the first possible frame to enter kreepy krow I nailed a "perfect" perfect frame. Now I won't forget about Funky on the way!!! I found the frame on a test run, and now I got a save state on the perfect frame so the boss is all ready to be pwned!

You already finished Gangplank Galleon?! o_o It's because you say "i'm play slowly now". I liked how you fight the Krow.
Not more working on: DKC3 105% < Needs modified Nitsuja Snes9x+9, with reset recording.

Oh I am playing slow now. V8 speed = 2-3 levels per day V9 speed = only continue when levels are perfect It just happened that Ganplank Galleon got perfect levels quickly. Plus I'll be juggling two other TASes now, so that'll also slow things down. technically V9 took a month, since I started it at the beginning of October, but since I knew exactly what changes to make and played Gangplank Galleon 9 times now, it went faster. It won't be as fast from now on (except Crocodile Cauldron, played that 6 times). Kreepy Krow was a way better fight, saving nearly a second from perfect luck manipulation, no frame-by-frame wobbling, better goofing around, more daring stunts, and hitting krow earlier. What do people think of the improvements?

Just for reference's sake, it's just "Krow" when he/she/it/potato is alive. The ghostly form is "Kreepy Krow". :p Haven't seen the wip yet, but the improvements that you've typed out sound sweet. Keep up the good work.

lol. I have worse names for this oversized avian, most of them inappropriate due to the difficulty I had with him at the beginning before V8. He was my Waterloo, but now he's no problem.

I finally figured out where that 1 second difference between mine and Arne's fight, and that's because he hits Krow on the right side to bumb him closer to the nest. I'll have to make sure my fights do that from now on.

I still have no idea if Arne is working on any% or not, but once again I tried making my own any% from scratch and came up with 4 frames faster than Arne in the first level. Pirate Panic 4 frames saved And that's even with stereo sound selected. The very extremely minute differences are: selected stereo sound, but chose file 3 to save 2 frames at the very beginning, rolled through the rat 2 frames earlier altered how I did the team throw to get to the warp in the warp itself, jumped instead of double rolled to save 6 frames, because there is a loading point before the door where you walk slowly, and you can jump over that loading point and save a few frames by just landing inside the door

And another 3 frames saved in Mainbrace Mayhem Mainbrace Mayhem 3 frames saved I'm wondering though, since I'm currently 7 frames ahead, what'll happen once Krow is reached... my initial thought was selecting Stereo sound was slower by a few frames and that I'd still be able to select Krow's Nest on Arne's perfect frame since he had to wait 8 frames anyway, but now that I'm ahead will overall time not be saved if I have to wait for that frame anyways or will a similarly fast perfect frame be found? I'll know when I get there I guess Edit: Krow Luck manipulation works in batches, in that once a 1-1-1-1 sequence is found, most of the frames around that have the same sequence, but the eggs fall in different locatioons/fall at different arcs. Hopefully the first possible frame Arne could've entered is the middle of such a "batch" and not the beginning. optimizations of 2 more levels and we'll see.

Lockjaw's Locker No frames gained/lost I tried the method I got in V9, but could not get it to save as many frames as I had gained in V9. I tried all sorts of methods, and got it to be exactly the same frame count as Arne's, which is good because initially I lost 6.

Topsail Trouble 2 frames saved Now to see if this 10 frame overall gain amounts to anything beneficial Hm encountering problems... the range is 7226-7244 (any later and I'd seriously be losing frames to Arne's) and I found only 1 1,1,1,1 sequence, frame 7232. However, both eggs #3 and 4 bounce. Arg. I could jump on both from above, but I believe that would waste a few frames bouncing from above both times, and the 10 frame gain I think would be overcome because I'd have to wait 6 frames (which gains 2 frames), and then I'd only be starting the battle with a 12 frame lead which would be overcome by that. Well, so much for that frame saving spree I was on. IF Arne is not working on this and IF I cannot get this boss to work well, would it be acceptable to take Arne's WIP at the end of Crocodile Cauldron and continue from there? (50 bonus points to anyone who can get confirmation from Arne if he's still doing this.)

took the trouble of reworking on 102%... first I tried redoing Lockjaw's Locker with a strategy change, by getting the warp first like in the other levels and lost over 100 frames, so no good... but better is that I tried a different frame to enter Krow's Nest, and my Krow fight, subtracting the 65 frames it took to switch to Dixie, is 10 frames faster than Arne's. So now the boss fight is as fast as it can possible be, and it's due to A) hitting Krow closer to the nest and B) having a more perfect frame, with neither egg bouncing and the last egg dropping downwards right next to Krow. DKC2 102% V9 World 1 completely done

Now you have made 8 replies in a row, so it's time for me to say that your improved run looks really nice! How much more can you improve the full run you think? As much as a minute?

I'm actually not sure. I think maybe more? I saved 6ish seconds in the first world, and I think that I'll be able to save more in future worlds... I really don't know, we'll find out later on as I test out faster/different strategies and get everything perfect. haha uh yeah 8 posts in a row... not a lot of people were posting and I kept sending WIPs of my work, so yeah... did the calculations (took me a while due to confusion about having visited Funky Kong) 493 frames ahead of the published 102% V8, or 8.216 seconds. 75 saved from redoing Krow and an additional 77 from Hothead Hop. Edit: Currently testing whether in Kannon's Klaim using Dixie for the first half like in V8 or using Diddy throughout is faster. So I'll be making two versions side by side to test this and other strategies as the run goes along. If anyone is curious, you can use the team throw double jumping to get to some weird places... and also in this short vid it shows that you when you throw a kong up, and you land on a target it activates it... I believe this was a debated improvement for the first level in Krem Quay and this shows that such a move is possible. (although I will probably be doing something faster anyways.) You can get on top of Lava Lagoon! plus team throw goal targeting

Using Dixie for first half of Kannon's Klaim is 28 frames faster than if Diddy was used the entire time from the end of Hothead Hop. But now, I have an excellent method for testing these sort of things. Yeah it takes longer than if I stayed by my old run the entire time, but then I'd never know if anything is faster or not. since I won't be posting WIPs until worlds are done, anyone can be free to PM me and I'll show whatever I have, so that peeps can review beforehand and to get a glimpse of some of the faster ways of playing I promised I'd look for (and found) when I first started V9. Edit: 38 frames saved in Kannon's Klaim, I was pretty sure that beforehand I couldn't save more frames but I guess I was wrong. Nothing strategically changed, but a lot of precision goes a long way i guess. If this trend continues, probably every level will be improved. I miss the frequent posters to this thread that all viewed my submitted run /WIPs :'( come back guys I miss you all

the quality is going for perfection i can only imagine how bad it is people not commenting our WIPs, but be aware that we ARE watching. I can't see any improvement now, that's why i'm not posting.

I know that I've been quiet for some time, but I'm watching every single WIP you submit. If I find something, I'll tell you... And as I said before: Try to improve everything! And obviously, you do!
