I've attempted this run a few years ago and won in 3200 BC, but didn't submit it at the time since I knew it could be manipulated better, just not easily enough. I finally gave it a few more tries recently, using a lua script (my first real experiment with lua), and won in 3740 BC (14th turn) after only 3 minutes and half.
Randomness in the game is affected by player input, so just pressing random buttons for a dozen frames (without any delay) gives a very wide range of possible results. Unlikely events (see below) were bruteforced in lua by entering random input.
There's about 50 possible world maps, or 2 per landmass/temperature/age setting. I looked at all of them and experimented with some, the one I picked was the best I found.
Starting positions are determined at the end of the "Just a moment please" screen. I needed to get everyone on the same continent and near each other, but there's a minimum distance so I can't just group everyone on a tiny island. I've bruteforced through many thousands of results on a few different maps, and this is the best one I found (even though it still doesn't look perfect).
When any civilization dies, the other one of the same color (France/Germany for purple, etc.) spawns at a random position, avoiding any city (higher minimum distance than above, too) but not units, so I made them spawn right next to me so they can be instantly destroyed! This took some more bruteforcing as well, since the odds of showing up exactly where I wanted were usually in the order of thousands ...
I also manipulated houses to give cavalry, fights to be won, and 2 Mv moves with 1 Mv left, but that was simple enough to do.
Other than bruteforcing, the lua script also showed the full world map (with 1 and 2 Mv tiles) with all houses, units and cities:
The re-record count isn't accurate either, since it doesn't include the lua bruteforcing (it'd be well over 100000 otherwise), and I reused early parts to try different maps and starting positions.

This is short and reasonably fun, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be published, but I must now challenge the author to win with the alpha centauri launch in the shortest possible timeframe.

I wasn't crazy about the initial load time and the action isn't exactly visually exciting. That being said, it is still easy to appreciate the fact that nations are wiped out in hilarious fashion and that the run is remarkably fast. This is an amazing example of luck manipulation in action, which leads to a very entertaining run overall. Easy yes vote.

I wouldn't bother with trying to launch a spaceship.. you are restricted to only doing so after 1 AD. I showed this to a few guys on Apolyton. They have no suggestions for you. If they can't think of any basic strategy changes, I don't have anything to suggest. Well done.

I think some civilizations have a chance to start with two settlers (the Russians, for example), at least in the PC version. Is that also true here? Yay! Encode! Joy! Good grief! In this run, your Settlers unit are bloodthirsty marauders bent on razing every city they come across (all two of them the Settlers found). And they can't even attack! There's an implication of having horsemen collectively destroying every city, leaving a world population of around zero (with no cities, no citizens). Such incredible history can be seen here. I didn't even know America existed back in 4000 BC, and here we are today without a single city. This really opened up my eyes!

Wow, great demo of luck manipulation! I definitely spent 100's of hours playing Civs I-III back in the day, so it's great to see the game destroyed like this (barbarian cavalry - LOL!) Yes vote. This joins a number of movies with text-based output that scrolls by too fast to see (unless you're a really fast reader) and, IMO, whose entertainment would benefit from an intentional, set delay. As to possible other goals for a Civ run...I'm not sure, on this port. It'd be great to see the strategies, but the sound effects are annoying, not sure if a longer run wouldn't drive me crazy... And finally, any chance you'll share your Lua scripts?

Man, that was great. When I first read the time, I read it as 5 hours and thought "gee, that seems a bit long for a TAS". But I've spent several hours on Civ II games, so it didn't seem that unreasonable. But 5 minutes, that's freakin' awesome. And thanks for the encode, fsvgm777.
