Post subject: What Should I TAS? (IDK if this is the right place!)

As I choose my first game to TAS, I don't know what to choose. Help me, please! 1. Blood - PC (1997) (takes damage to save time, uses hardest difficulty) 2. Splatterhouse - TG-16 (1988) (uses hardest difficulty) 3. Super Mario 64 - N64 (1996) (Playaround, heavy glitch abuse) 4. Nightshade - NES (1991) (100% completion, heavy luck manipulation) 5. Shadow Warrior - PC (1996) (takes damage to save time, uses hardest difficulty) Info (no videos are by me) 1. Info, Speedruns of Single Levels (NOT BY ME!) 2. Info, Longplay (Again, not by me) 3. Like you don't know what it is if you're registered here. But look! 4. Info, TAS (but not 100%) 5. Speedruns I will eventually TAS all of them, but IDK what to do first. No poll 'cause I haven't posted enough.

Trust me, do NOT start with SM64. I made that mistake, I can't even explain how hard it was and how many times I got frustrated. Also I think this should be in Newbie Corner.

JPC-RR is still relatively new, and I'd recommend getting used to the general process before attempting to make a TAS with it. That eliminates the DOS games. Mario 64 is also heavily TASed at this point, so you would need to achieve a very high level of precision for any sort of playaround (besides which I don't think the community would be too receptive to such a run). Also, the emulator in use for N64 games (Mupen64-rr) is not particularly reliable and a poor starting point. That leaves Splatterhouse and Nightshade. Mednafen/PCEjin and FCEUX are both fairly robust and reliable; the latter is probably the best supported TAS-capable emulator these days and it would make for a better starting point, I think. I'd strongly recommend posting progress in a game thread in the appropriate forum. Also, welcome aboard! EDIT:

O.K., Splatterhouse is first. Nightshade might seem easier, but after doing some experimenting with PCEjin, I found out that Splatterhouse has A ONE FRAME DELAY! ...Besides, someone has already made a TAS of Nightshade. It's harder to obsolete something than just make a new TAS, right?

Quite the opposite - having a good point of reference when making a TAS is extremely helpful, and often recommended for people who are new to the process. That having been said, if you're willing to get copious amounts of feedback while creating the run, that should not be as much of an issue.

Oh yeah, I'm willing. I've beaten Splatterhouse countless times before, But only once doing it frame-by-frame. I TASed it yesterday, beating it in a little over 15 minutes. Then I noticed the movie had mistakes scattered all over. I'm going to reTAS it today and tomorrow and be extra careful. Splatterhouse bad TAS here. Rom is (U) Version

Nice, Nitro! I didn't really notice sliding made Rick faster, I will improve upon that, also the route taken was faster. Thanks for making me feel a lot better about my TAS. *shot*
