Happy Hallowe'en!
This is a superplay of Olympic Gold - Barcelona '92 for the Genesis. Note that a perfect ROM dump does not apparently exist.
TAS goals:
  • Superplay/Does not aim for fastest time
  • Aims for all World Records
  • Manipulates Luck
  • Plays on Hardest Difficulty
  • Emulator used: Gens 11a
Events
There are 7 events in the full Olympic mode, and I achieve the best score or time I can in each, playing at the Olympic (hardest) difficulty:
100 metres dash:
Speed here is achieved by alternating pressing A and B each frame, allowing for a time of 9.11 seconds
Hammer throw:
Once again A and B alternating determines how far you throw, but you also need to press C at fixed points to determine how far you throw. A random power gauge operates in the background, and at full power a distance of 93.05 m is achieved. The remaining heats are used to insert a subtle 'over 9000' joke.
Archery
Pull back the bow, aim and fire. The bow randomly wobbles all over the place, so hitting the centre is quite difficult normally, however it is somewhat trivial in a TAS. The perfect score of 180 points is achieved.
110 metres hurdles
Same controls as the 100 metres here, but you get a jump button in C to leap over the hurdles. Time achieved here is 12.11 seconds
Pole Vault
The highest you can set the bar to is 6.35m, so I achieve the best possible height that the game will allow. Just like the real Olympics, you need to fail 3 times before the event ends, so the last 3 failed attempts are necessary.
Diving
Here, you set a diving goal determined by the options, then try and match that dive as perfectly as possible. The goal that gives the largest number of points is chosen each time, and I achieve a perfect score each time from the judges. 5 dives are performed, two forward-facing dives and two backward-facing dives, going alternately clockwise and anti-clockwise each time. The final dive is freestyle which can be done any of the four possible ways. The maximum score of 504 points is achieved
200 metres freestyle swimming
This event was the most challenging to TAS, and indeed more than half the number of rerecords were used on this one event.
Once again, speed is determined by alternately pressing A and B. However, you also have Stamina, which can be burned through in around 7 seconds if you maintain the maximum speed. Stamina also adds to the speed you travel at - therefore the fastest approach is to go as fast as possible WITHOUT burning into the stamina bar. Stamina does recharge slowly over time if you are going slow enough, but you will be going too slow then. Keeping within the narrow speed requirement that doesn't burn stamina but does move as fast as possible was tough to plan, and required very precise input at each frame. You may often see places where there are gaps in input - this is deliberate so the swimmer does not go fast enough to burn Stamina.
At the end of the race, I do burn through stamina to gain a final burst of speed. However, since the stamina does add to the speed you travel, not all of the Stamina is used since it would not achieve a faster time. In the end, I achieved a time of 1 minute 43.3 seconds

mmbossman: Thanks for playing, but it doesn't look like this one is a fan favorite. Rejecting.

adelikat: Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier

This seems to be in the wrong tier. It's listed as a playaround in both the submission text and movie page, but it's in the vault tier. :P

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Ok, I'll put it in words. Since the movie does not aim for fastest time it is inelligible for vault.

Uh..there's only 1 line, which you already quoted earlier. So, does this belong to the vault despite not being the fastest time?

Ok, I'll put it in words. Ask adelikat.

I have a feeling that it's just an oversight though. :P But some clarification would help.

How does it not aim for fastest time? I clearly go through each of the timed stages as fast as possible, just because it is not explicitly stated is irrelevant. Besides, what kind of miserable jobsworth are you to try and be such a stickler to the rules?

Uh....you said so yourself:
Superplay/Does not aim for fastest time

There seems to be some confusion in this topic, so I'll spell out the options for everyone: 1. Since this is a playaround, it should be moved to the Moons tier since runs that don't aim for fastest time (as the author originally said it didn't) are ineligible for the Vault. 2. But if the author is totally convinced that this run in fact aims for fastest time, we can just keep the run in the Vault (not sure why any author would want his/her movie there though) and simply remove the Playaround tag.

This isn't a case of the author being "convinced". This depends on whether it simply is true or not. If I make a playaround and later claim it's for fastest time, that doesn't suddenly not make it a playaround, nor does that make it eligible for "fastest time" when it actually isn't.
