This is an attempt to make a Duck Hunt TAS as entertaining as possible. The goal in this TAS is to play 1 round of each game mode (1 duck, 2 ducks and clay shooting) perfectly, shooting the target as soon as possible. After the first round in the first two game modes, the game is reset and the next game mode is played. Only 1 round in each game mode is played because all other rounds would look almost identical. Also, by playing only 1 round in each game mode, all aspects of the game are shown, and hopefully you won't get bored in the short time span this movie last.
Anyway, perhaps this is a silly game to TAS, but I don't know how to give it a better chance than with these goals. If you have another idea, let me know.
Duck Hunt is a repetitive game, but by keeping the TAS short and as varying as possible, and considering it's a popular game, it might have a shot at publication. Either way, no one has submitted a serious attempt at this game, so I'll give it a try.
Randil: Cancelling this, it probably wasn't a good idea to submit, so sorry about that. Still, I had some fun making it. I'll do a more serious TAS next. Randil: Uncancelling and leaving it to its fate. May you fare well, brave submission.

Nach: Response for this wasn't so great, rejecting.

Nach: Since covering all worthwhile content in a game is now vaultable, accepting.

Ilari: Publishing season!

Didn't find this entertaining at all... Perhaps shooting the ducks as fast as possible isn't a very good goal but I can't think of a better way. Maybe missing them on purpose and then hit them at the last frame possible?

I've said on two separate occasions that Duck Hunt is one of the worst games for a TAS but both times I was thinking pure hypothesis. I didn't actually believe someone would really do it. 1. There is no challenge to making a Duck Hunt TAS whatsoever. Optimizing a game like Duck Hunt is about as straightforward as it gets. I know the guidelines say that the effort is irrelevant (ie, playing a TAS in real-time instead of with frame advance doesn't make it more impressive) but I think this is taking it a bit too far. It's like if you were to do a TAS of Rock Paper Scissors. 2. Duck Hunt goes on forever. You managed to circumvent this by doing a brief showcase of each game, so yes, you did manage to sidestep that issue. However, I think your approach doesn't really work for TASvideos' goals. This seems more of a longplay or demonstration. If it doesn't actually beat the game, it seems ineligible for publication. 3. There's no entertainment value. No one is going to watch this and have their mind blown. "Wow, that duck got shot before it even appeared on screen. So did that one. So did that one. That one too." It's just pointless repetition. 4. April Fools Day is like two months away, dude. Voted "As no as no can be"

What? Don't cancel it yet! Let's at least hear more than 2 opinions... I haven't watched yet but I have a pretty good idea of what it looks like and I think it could be published. I will wait to expand on that theory until I see it though :) Edit because Randil just put up an encode: I enjoyed it! I even laughed a little which was surprising.

No site regular will have their mind blown. People less familiar with the idea of a TAS might...

I saw the YouTube encode and I enjoyed it. It was short enough to not be too repetitive. Too bad it was canceled.

You could say the same about Color a Dinosaur, couldn't you? It's a funny idea for an April Fools' gag, but that's pretty much it.

I vote yes. It was short enough and kept my attention. You shouldn't really cancel this.

I liked it. It had a lot of twiching with the shooting. Also, the objects were shot at speeds I didnt even comprehend. Even though this was canceled, I give a Yes.

I don't know why you canceled this either. On a technical level, your movie would be hard to beat, if not impossible (Hint: would purposely wasting a shot save time, by avoiding the perfect screen?). On an entertainment level, it was fine for a movie less than 2 minutes long. Watching TASs for years, I don't find this impressive at all, but looking at it from a newbie perspective, this movie is indeed impressive and showcases the power of TASing games.

Well, allright then, I will uncancel it, I guess it was a rash decision to cancel it. I had doubts about how this would be received, but now it seems more people liked it than I thought. Even if this gets rejected in the end, I'm happy to see that quite a few of you actually liked it. :) I'll uncancel this and leave it to its fate! Nach: Yeah, you can save time by avoiding the perfect screen, but I think that would look a bit too sloppy, even if it does indeed save time.

Did I enjoy this movie? Yes, I do enjoy a bit of Duck Hunt. Should this be published? My better judgment tells me no. The goals, while rightfully the least boring, are still pretty arbitrary. This all reminds me of the recent furore surrounding F-Zero/Top Gear publications, but instead of one-level it's a sample of three levels. Perhaps if I was asked a week ago I'd have considered this publishable as a 'Demonstration'. That may still be feasible, but I think this one just falls outwith the scope. Thanks, Randil, for an enjoyable/nostalgic little run, but I'm voting no.

Isn't "Perfect" determined not by wasted shots, but by not letting any of the birds fly away? So you'd have to wait quite some time to avoid the Perfect bonus. As for the run as a whole, I'm going to abstain from voting until I can sort out how I feel about it; it doesn't seem amenable to snap judgements.

F-Zero and Top Gear each have many different tracks. Duck Hunt has a total of 3 kinds, which just constantly repeat until you fall below par. This run is not analogous to those racing games, as every area of Duck Hunt was shown, and completed.

I don't remember, as I haven't played the game in years, but you could be right. Obviously if the bird has to fly away to miss a perfect screen, then it won't be time saving.

If the site's aim was to provide a complete library of TASes, this could be published... there might indeed be people interested to see a Duck Hunt TAS. The same can however be said for many TASes that were rejected for bad game choice... some people might just be searching for a movie of it.

I consider this to be a sign of a very bad game choice for TASing, if less than 200 rerecords can make a perfect movie. I have to agree with Heisanevilgenius and Dromiceius here, voting no.

On the contrary, it should be a good game choice to demonstrate to newbies. It would go great as part of a guide to making TASs.

I was more entertained than I thought I would be in watching this, but I'm still not sure whether this should be published. I'm going to refrain from voting, since I cannot decide.

Longest 2 minutes of my life. I'm not so opposed to publish something like this anyway, because I think having a (good) TAS for every game is a pretty good site goal, myself. However, publishing this while leaving stuff like World of Illusion in the "game is not interesting enough" category is basically a huge mockery. Voting no.

Yes. I thought it was kinda funny/amusing. Also, who says this run is perfect?

Personally, I found this run to be boring, repetitive and uninteresting to watch... but others didn't. I'd be in favour of having a movie accepted, irrespective of my own opinion, if an audience who genuinely finds it entertaining exists. However, if acceptance is determined by the majority's opinion, add my no vote to the list.

I found it pretty boring even though it lasted only two minutes. Bad game choice imho. Maybe a Round 100 (a.k.a. 0) would be cool since it's amazingly glitched itself.
