However, maybe I'm missing something. I thought movies in PCSX could be hexed to work with PSXjin. This would mean you wouldn't need to restart the run. Oh well, guess not.
Even if I could, I really should restart this run from scratch. There's a few subtle changes to the route (and many to execution) and I just think it'll be better this way.

Intriguing run so far. I like the ending part where the guard looks at you and goes "Huh?" :) Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I am not going to encode this WIP because it is really just a placeholder. I'm at a loss as to what to do for the tank hangar. Through testing, I've determined that my strategy in my old video is the fastest (and most practical) but because I exit the air vents faster, the patrols aren't set up properly. Any suggestions for an alternative?

There's something I just learned from watching Chip Cheezum's Let's Play of MGS1: Stinger missiles can be "curved" by firing it early and then locking on to a target. This could potentially save a lot of time on the Hind, Sniper Wolf 2 and REX.

I'm following this with great excitment! I was really sad when the last one went into the dumpster, looking good so far, great usage of the AI. Good luck!

I'm BACK, baby! No pjm's until a few days I'm afraid, as my campus Internet isn't quite set up yet (I'm writing this post from my phone). But I've finally solved the dreaded tank hangar and I will post an official update (and just may~be a shoddy encode from yours truly) as soon as I finish the Meryl shootout.

I was looking at your TAS and something popped out at me quite quickly. At the heliport you chose to go the right path to stop you waiting as long but really just going straight up and hugging the side is faster (by maybe 1 second). I edited and put yours and Matt Powell's SDA run together and he beat you on getting the chaff grenade.

Well it wouldn't be a Certified Theenglishman TAS (TM) without a significant redo, now would it? I see your point. I'll need to do some more tests to see what the optimal route is to the surveillance camera from that new position, and at any rate I won't have access to PSXjin again until tomorrow evening at the earliest.

Redone helipad. From the first frame of the level's opening cutscene to the first frame of the ending cutscene, the hangar is now 1,137 frames (just under 22 seconds) long, using an optimized version of Matt Powell's chaff grab before going for the bottom entrance as usual. The helipad, tank hangar and first B1 hallway are finished.

Sorry to triple-post, but I figured multi-posting would be the best way to announce consistent progress. Another WIP is done, with emphasis on "in-progress". It's been quite a challenge trying to find a fast way to manipulate the bullet count at the end of the Meryl fight to 13 (I got 14, but I'm not complaining). Anyway, the point is I am still a bit skeptical as to how this is all going to work out for now. I'm pretty sure that fight can be improved, but I'm not sure exactly how. I would appreciate, if anyone wants to, some outside help. It's always nice to have an extra body with which to brainstorm and trade ideas. I'll have an encode up shortly for you lazy people =P

Entertaining so far. I enjoyed the ammo-conservation tactics in the Meryl! fight. The way Snake tends to take the corners wide during the opening credits: can't be helped? Seems like this game can feel sub-optimal at times no matter what you do

Unfortunately, no. The credits are on a timer anyway, there's nothing you can do to speed that up. The walls have invisible force fields or something preventing you from rubbing up against them, unless you're trying to take cover. It's really annoying, I agree.

Ocelot is finished. I had a lot of fun with this one; I think Ocelot's my favourite boss to TAS in the game, second to maybe Grey Fox. It's basically a better-optimized version of the Ocelot fight from my previous run, with some optimizations and a slightly different reloading pattern. If you didn't see my old run before, you're in for a real treat of a boss fight =D

How do I get the file to synch? I have psxjin v2.0.2 and v1.1 of MGS. I load the pjm file and then select the CD. I can see your button presses but it just stops on the menu.

You need a particular memory card in Slot A before you load the movie. You can find it in the OP.

I tried that but link was broken. Also, sorry to say but you might need to restart your TAS again. The Dock is not optimal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFKGXPush4g&feature=channel_video_title His lift comes very slow for some reason (PAL I think) but it does save atleast 2 seconds if done right. This is judging from me playing on console and recording. TAS is maybe less than a second behind him.

I'll do some more testing and see how much time it saves. I'm also going to check to see if I can get the rest of the input hex-edited, because I won't really have much time to redo the rest of it.

I also wondered why you did not pick up the stun grenades in helipad? Are the stuns in the nikita area faster to get or are you skipping them completely and just luck manipulate the stairs? I also see before Ocelot you did not pick up the grenades. Getting them on way out?

I'm waiting for the Nikita room to get stunners. My item acquisition route will be almost identical to my old run. And yes, it's faster to get the frag grenades after Ocelot.

My latest WIP, which stops (and saves, to show off the time) where Segment 3 of Matt Powell's run ends: having just entered the canyon, before crossing the minefield. I've also started linking to my latest WIPs in the OP, so you can always look there to find out how I'm doing. If/when someone (not me lol) does an encode, I'll embed that in the OP too. Let's hear some feedback, folks! (Sorry mgsfan, I'm not going to include the Docks improvement as I am thoroughly sick of the earlygame by now.)

So I've been told I'm supposed to post something so this doesn't just look like a giant one-man conversation. So er..., nice wip you got there, son.
