Made another one: Super Grass Rescue. With Wanted level 6 for added measure.
(also, people, note these aren't WIPs - they're not part of a full run (these missions would probably be skipped anyway).)

That's as far as any% goes. I don't know if I would make a 100%, I don't think it would be very interesting (compared to any%).

Mothrayas, I haven't seen you around for a while. I think I've managed to hack in auto-lag-frame skip. Let me know if you are still interested.

Yes I'm still interested, thanks DarkKobold. Do you have a link to the lagskip version?

Any progress with an emulator or a run?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Unfortunately, no. After a hard drive failure on my PC a couple months ago I've lost the bit of progress I had, and I haven't yet had the motivation to re-set up everything and start over again. I've also been getting very busy lately, so I hardly have time to TAS, and when I do it's for my X-Men: CotA TAS because I don't have the motivation to do anything else.
However, I'm more willing to do a short TAS of a single mission/challenge, rather than a full run (like the other two short GTA2 TASes I made), since those are much easier to do and quicker done than a full run. So if there's something you want to see in particular, I may do something like that instead.

No, I'd need something particularly if I knew the game and wanted to make it myself, but I don't know it. I just love the oldschool 2D GTA (I played it long ago on DOS, but had no time to finish). And being TASed it looks OSOM! And yes, I can imagine HOW much must be taken in account when making it's run. But hey, that YT speedrun looks useful.

What would you say is the hardest part in TASing this game? Trying to manipulate the right cars to both appear and not appear when you want them to?

Yes, that's it.
Take, for example, this very old WIP where I do the first couple of missions. Within the first few seconds, I need to manipulate the fastest car the district has to offer, preferably on one of the closer rows, and I have to manipulate for a cop car to come around and go after me, so I can nab a cop car right at the end of the first mission. (Of course, I then also need to manipulate for one to chase after me while I do said mission). I also have to manipulate for new cars whenever I end a mission at a safehouse or another building - while still getting another car into the safehouse as fast as possible. Manipulating everything at once is hell.
(In contrast, the missions themselves are quite simple. Routes are made simply by taking a map of the whole district, and drawing in the shortest route to go with. Driving is pretty simple and not hard to optimize; the physics allow to go in straight lines towards the goal, which not only is simple and fast, but also looks funny. Missions themselves are also simple and straightforward, if no luck manipulation is required.)

Someone has made a 100% real-time speedrun of the Downtown district. Just putting it out here for those who are interested in speedruns of this game.
(100% here means all 22 jobs, all 20 Kill Frenzies and all 50 Tokens. Done on PC version).
Link to video
The creator of this speedrun (Molotok) also has some more GTA1 and GTA2 speedruns on his channel - like GTA2 Residential district done in 00:47.20. Yes, that's sub 1-minute.

I recently noticed Grand Theft Auto 2 is on the SGDQ 2014 game list. To be played by Kubelwagon, time estimate 50 minutes.
Kubelwagon also has a 35:27 run here on Twitch.
Should definitely be interesting to see the game being run at SGDQ.

Watching that stream right now, and I have to ask: did you at least get the lag-skip build?

If you mean the PSXjin lagskip build DarkKobold made, I got it a few years ago but lost it since then. I don't know if there's a link to it anywhere either.
Even if there is, though, emulation is still bad and if I recall correctly, the lagskip didn't even work all that well.

I'm asking because I now can make such a hack as well, but will it change anything?
