A bit old, but I feel McBobX's [2548] GBA Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance "Maxim, all bosses" by McBobX in 07:30.75 could use a Star. It's quite entertaining, and really shows off how broken Harmony of Dissonance is.
No. This nico's run played by たりー is 26 seconds faster than McBobX's. Link to video

i find the castlevania runs to be the same strat always,i'm not too keen on why they should be starred.
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

mtvf1, there isn't a requirement for starred TASes to be optimal. For example, TheYogWog's S3&K Knuckles Ring Attack is very far from optimized, but it still has a star due to entertainment level: http://tasvideos.org/2593M.html

It seems a little asinine though if we select that movie as a top quality run to showcase, when we know there is a run that's half a minute faster elsewhere.

There are already three Castlevania runs in star tier. To reflect the diversity of TAS'ing, I feel we should limit how many movies from the same series or franchise can be in star tier at the same time. So I'm not in favor of adding more Castlevania runs to star tier, unless they replace one of the existing Castlevania runs.

The issue with that would be reducing the number of Star runs which have the most for one series or franchise, prime example being the Mario franchise with 10 different movies in the Star tier.

I liked the run, but I think it was bit too repetitive for a star. I would give that to an "all cards" TAS, if it ever gets made.

Yeah, the rating proves it, starring finally.

Not to question your judgment, but a rating if 8.5 based on 9 ratings is enough to justify a star?

*clears throat* *clears throat again* *wow there's a lot caught in my throat how weird* No offense to the movies themselves, just saying that ratings aren't necessarily everything for Stars. I agree with The Mask being starred, the game was almost made to be TASed and every publication has been awesome.

Jetpack and The Simpsons get a large boost from nostalgia value. Personally I found the Jetpack TAS to be unwatchably dull, but I never played the game and thus had no prior emotional attachment; clearly lots of other people (including, say, Nach) felt otherwise.

Okay, time to discuss! 1. Jetpack. Just read the thread and you'll know what was my opinion on starring it. However, after a few weeks of being published, it had 8.0 entertainment rating, which is quite strong. 2. There was a choice which of 4 player arcade movies to star, Simpsons or TMNT, and I compared the overall feedback on both, and it seemed Simpsons were received better. But yes, entertainment rating for both was something around 7.5. Either these 2 games or one of them was starred long ago, so we really lose nothing. 3. Battle City. Have you watched it, honestly?

Yes. We don't star blindly, basing on some thing. We weigh different factors and make a complex decision. For example, if a game is suggested for stars a few times, then it has entertainment rating around 8 (and not just a silly amount of votes like 4), if it was well received as a submission, and finally, if it showcases some original and fresh play, we have all rights to star it. There are cases where only some of these are met and the rest do not impress, so it either becomes an exception, or isn't starred.

Yes. Did you read my comment that stated I was only pointing out how movie rating isn't the only thing tied into judging, and I wasn't actually complaining about any of those movies at all? Do you want my actual opinions to refute instead of complaining about mere implication? Here you go: Like Derakon, I found Jetpack unbearably dull. I voted No in the thread and couldn't even make it 5 minutes into the run before my mind wandered to thinking about my own inevitable death. I'm pretty sure it's only starred because Nach is ridiculously biased toward it. The Simpsons can't make up for its nostalgia value in entertainment and the run is annoying as hell to watch with the sound on. It's also not the first 4-player TAS, so that shouldn't have really factored into the star judgement. Battle City wasn't all that bad but it wouldn't even come close to being starred if it lacked all the playaround stuff, and even that got to be a bit repetitive and dull after a while. Regardless, I have no qualms about anything being starred or anything not being starred. Normally I wouldn't even care enough to talk about this, but if you're going to complain about my opinions without me even bringing them up or mentioning that I felt anything negative in the first place... Then I suppose I feel obliged to indulge in your pessimistic expectations of me.

Oh, I now see your idea, that seems to basically match what I said in my post. Well, the more is clarified, the better :) As for Battle City, I can't praise it enough, it was just all I'd watch a star movie for. Short and not too complicated, but clear and enjoyable, playaround was the very thing that excited me so much there. Who'd think such a boring game with no mapper could provide for such a TAS.

I never played Jetpack, yet I found the lack of music oddly fine. I guess I play too many games in frame advance w/o volume. lol

Btw, I was not trying to imply that only highest-rated TASes deserve a star. (After all, I have been for years the most vocal proponent of the Star tier to be pretty much independent of ratings.) I worded my post poorly. What I meant to imply is that I'm not sure 9 ratings could be considered any kind of consensus, or the sole reason to star a TAS. feos' post seemed to imply that 9 ratings (with an average of 8.5) would be considered this kind of consensus.

[2876] GBA Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow "Julius mode, all bosses" by hellagels, KSeptuple & Pike in 11:52.03 Just putting this here. A number of people already asked me about it. Should note that the same game currently already has another TAS with a star.

As this game already has a starred movie featured on the site, I was considering rotating the star position between this and the "all souls" run. Switch out the star tier between each every two weeks or so. Perhaps it could be automated to lessen the work of the starman.

I'm all for both of them being starred, but if it has to be only one I'd rather it stay on the "all souls" run.

Moving the "all souls" star is especially tough, since it's a "newcomer rec", that was proposed by really a lot of people.
