There are many PSX games that can make great TAS videos. Mostly because it will make obtaining 100% all the more interesting.

So many crazy games that could be done. Loaded, Twisted Metal, Armored Core!

Don't know, but isn't there also GTA? Imagine, you could always manipulate the fastest car, have perfect control, could defeat enemies and cars with one hit.. I'd be interested in such a speedrun (I already watched the one on sda).

Games similar to GTA need to be TAS'ed as it will be oh so easy to obtain 100% completion.

Short summary, about what I know (which means, some facts are missing or probably not true): There does exist interest in PSX tasing as seen in these threads 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 so you are not the first one who asks for it. There are basically just too many difficulties (like not being open source), which prevented us of having a rerecording PSX emulator. As far as I know, there are 3 emulators worth mentioning: -epsxe: Probably the best known and most used one. However it is closed source, which will unlikely change, as there worked to many people on the project to allow the few currently working on it to make it open source. -PCSX: This one is open source, which is the reason, why DeHackEd and valarnin already tried to modify it. However, there seems to be a general savestate bug, which couldn't be solved yet. Recently, mz also works on it with some successful results (1, 2, 3), but it is still very experimental. -pSX: A closed source emulator, pSX author alone is working on. As he is generally over flooded with requests and advises, he also rejected bisqwit's and others proposal of helping with their experience of implementing rerecord features, which led to a slightly tensed atmosphere. He still plans on adding this feature, but firstly, we will have to wait some time, due to its low priority and secondly the lack of open source limits the usefulness for tasvideos a lot. Yet, bisqwit managed to bypass these problems and created the first (and seemingly unnoticed) PSX tas, using a different recording approach (directly recording an AVI), which however, also doesn't meet the requirements for a emulator that the while community can use.

Thanks for your post emu :) So it will be more probably on PCSX... I hope this huge will be 100% resolved at the end, it will be still faster than to do your own emulator... Wait and see, and thanks for that you are already trying to do :)

Yeah, you're totally right. I think it's particularly hard to swallow that the authors of proprietary emulators just aren't contributing back to the community (notable exceptions notwithstanding, of course). They've read the community-contributed docs and technical specs, haven't they? Especially when your emulator is quite old and isn't actively being maintained anymore.

At least, ePSXe wasn't actively maintained for a while. Recently they came out of nowhere and released version 1.7 though. I have not seen any obvious changes, but I assume that it was mostly a compatibility update plus visual rumble feature. Whether they are developing 1.8 or not, I am not sure as I have not looked in their forums for a while.

So I'm guessing you didn't actually have anything useful to say in this thread, seeing as the PSX emulator does, in fact, work and the question when will we see PSX TASes is moot now. I'm guessing you meant to give your ORIGINAL* request in this thread. *Sarcasm. Yes, we know Megaman 8 would probably make a good TAS, no need to mention it again.

Eh, I wouldn't really call it that. A lot of previously working plugins don't anymore in 1.7 because of...uh...I don't remember, but I think it was mostly one specific change to the way some...uh, important part was emulated...or something...eh, I'm too lazy to check what it was now anyway. :p

I think what I meant by compatibility was compatibility with games, not plug-ins or Vista (though Vista issues could have been part of the update...). Some games might have worked a bit better with 1.7, but if they did, I don't have any of those games...
