My WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/981933160/Mystery%20Quest%20TAS%20WIP%20BZero.fcm A somewhat mediocre platformer really, but I think it actually looks like a pretty good game when TASed. What do you guys think? Does this look interesting? Should I continue?

I remember playing this as a child and not having any idea about the goal of the game. That was partly cleared up by a document on GameFAQs, but I'd definitely like to see a TAS of it. You need to beat the game four times in a row to get the good ending, although the info I've found on the Internet says that there are no differences between the "quests." If it would be allowed, I can make a hack (a simple one-byte change) that would give you the good ending after the first time through.

Nah, I'd rather just play through it once and get the normal ending, than play a hacked ROM. Thanks for the offer, though.

The character moves at a good pace, but the first level was meh... I took a look around the second level, and I think if the rest of the game plays like that, it would be TAS-worthy.

That's a neat idea. A game genie code would be better than having to use an IPS, if you know how to make those. Incidentally, TASing the hack shouldn't be necessary if the only change in the ROM manifests after the input is finished.

I say go ahead. It's a game from my childhood, but never been after level 2.

Here you go: AEEOVILA. Also, I was wrong about nothing changing in the second quest. The various symbols (money, knowledge, family, peace) that you can pick up apparently have different graphics in the second quest. I wonder if you actually need those things to beat the game, though. EDIT: You do need the symbols. You can't exit the castle if you don't get the one inside. I've also tested the idea of skipping the third castle, but you don't finish the quest if you skip it. So you'll need to get all four symbols.
