This is Super Mario Bros 3 in Super Mario All Stars.
<< Amazing run >>
This run has been done 1 year ago, but I never submitted that
Emulator used: snes9xw-improvement9
Options: Allow Left+Right / Up+Down
Take hit and use death to show funny things
Why would anyone like the result?: Some peoples wanted to see a full version of it few years ago.
Aim: Show funny things and bugs
-- Programming errors and funny things to see --
- Wall jump
- Pass through walls and floors
- Shells get stock in walls and pipes
- Death in the first mushroom house
- Take hit by nothing in the first boat
- Killed by my own box in 5-3
- Get many 1up with the same shell in 6-2
- Use hammers to kill Bowser
=> If you are interested in this movie, you can see my Super Mario World version too.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Super Mario All Stars (U).smc
  • I updated it to Super Mario All-Stars (U) [!].smc

adelikat: This movie is a good example of a "superplay" movie that doesn't aim for fastest completion time. It shows precision, variety, and numerous tricks. Most importantly it shows off interesting aspects of the game that a fast completion type run can not.
Also, contrary to some people's beliefs, this type of movie DOES belong on the site; provided it meets certain quality standards. This movie does and I am accepting it for publication.

(U) [!] Worked for me. Although it is entertaining, is it really needed to play through as much of the game as you do? This movie is really long for a "fun" movie.
I think i've watched about 70% of the TAS's on this site... It's become one of the first sites I check daily for updates. I'm going to start posting more.

This was definately way better than the Super Mario World one. I liked how you played some of the levels the other run didn't. I only part I didn't enjoy was where you kept bouncing on the fireballs in the one dungeon with tanooki. I love how it says "kind raccoon". instead of Tanooki. Tanookis aren't exactly censor friendly. There were several glitches that made me laugh and say "what the hell?!" I liked the trick in the piranha plant levels where you went down that pipe. I loved this run. Although it was a lot slower, I think I enjoyed this run a LOT more than the published warpless Super Mario Bros 3. Yes vote from me.

I'll have to vote meh. Although the run entertained me, I can't vote yes to a run that doesnt have a criteria set enough so that someone else could beat it. That's just unfair.

Awesome all the way to the end. I saw the partial version a few years ago, so a lot of this was not entirely fresh. Still a lot of fun stuff, though.

Not everything needs to be a competition. The Air video will never be "beaten" but did that stop anything?

You missed out a few glitches which I would like to see... The "going-into-pipes-from-the-side" one for example. Doing that in 3-9 will make some weird things happen. I won't vote to this one. I found it entertaining most of the time however.

This movie made me laugh. When I laugh I guess it MUST be entertaining -> Yes!

Even though I cannot vote, gotta say that the constant left+right made the run somewhat boring, there's some cool highlights. Would rather watch it as segmented avi.

I disliked the left+right stuff, mostly because it feels like you are using a cheat code. I can't do that stuff on my NES SMB3 even theoretically, so that's kind of a bummer. There was some cool stuff there, but not enough to warrant an avi.

Kyrsi: The glitch doen't work on the NES version.. it works on SNES and GBA only. I can do it on my console without a modified controller. It's just well used.

I would expect any run that would obsolete this one to have all the bugs and glitches that this one does in either less time or in a similar time with more glitches. Another important factor would be if its more entertaining than the last. Who said it isn't possible to obsolete a movie which aims for entertainment?

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed the Super Mario World. Not as many tricks as the SMW run and I'm not very fond of the remake. Voted meh.

didn't keep me entertained all the way through. Had a few interesting moments, but you can only glitch through a wall so often until it gets boring. Might have been better if it was shorter. voting meh.

Mario runs backward fast (that's probably the closest 2D version of BLJ we would see) Many funny glitches thru out the game that's mentioneds in the submission text and many that weren't mentioned. --> Especially, I like the one where Mario fell out of the mushroom house (where Mario would normally need to open a chest). --> Also, I like the one where Mario was running backward while grabbing a shell, then kicked the shell and the shell goes to left then right. --> Mario never touches the ground while fighting the boss in the first castle --> It seems like the funny list is endless... there are just too many to list. This run also suggested that the run can be done quicker (if the extra glitches were not shown). However, I prefer to see the funny glitches versus one that doesn't show it. The entire run shows that Mario is having tons of fun. It's very entertaining to watch. I can't believe we get so many Mario record-breaking/setting runs in the past few days. Thank you Genisto for this (and the SMW) run! Maybe you can now improve the other Mario games ? ;-) A definite YES vote for this run!

The Left+Right is sort of interesting for a couple of minutes, but using it all the way through the whole run, I get sick of it really quickly. Additionally, I prefer the NES graphics and sound for SMB3, because on both those counts, the SNES versions just seem incredibly generic. There is some fun stuff in here, but really, I'd have liked an NES version much much better. And yes, I'm aware that Left+Right doesn't work on the NES version of the game--that's part of why I'd like it better. So I'm going to have to vote no on this.

I think I was a little more entertained with the SMW run, though may be in part because I feel the remixed SMB3 All-Stars music is the most wretched work Nintendo has ever done. That said, I had to run to class before the movie was finished, so I minimized the emulator and lugged my laptop off to class. I let the movie start up again in the classroom before class had actually started, at which point a group formed behind me, utterly amazed. Once class began, the people who were left behind me refused to allow me to minimize it again, so the rest of the run played out while I was attempting to remain inconspicuous. In any event, I give it a thumbs up. Whether these runs get published or not, I'm grateful that you took the time to put them together. They may not break any records, but what's wrong with just aiming to be entertaining?
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>
