This is the first one I've done in a while... I started it after finding a huge shortcut in the Aerial Race, and ended up finding a half dozen more in the process.
  • Gens 9Z
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses death as a shortcut

Improvements

  • The 'grid' control setting doubles horizontal / vertical accelleration.
  • Used RAM Watch to monitor speed and position.
  • New trick: Using dizziness to build up enough speed to roll over narrow gaps.
  • Major shortcuts on levels 3-6. The end of level 3 doesn't count as a death.

The movie description is wrong. The Genesis version is an almost direct port of the original Arcade game, with only a few differences that I'm aware of:
  • No trackball.
  • The edge of the screen isn't bouncy.
  • The moving bridge at the end is slower.
  • The screen is 16 pixels shorter (224 vs 240 pixels).
  • Some palette changes (only particularly noticable on the last level).
  • The music and sounds are the same (except the end-of-level jingle), but the instruments are a bit crappy, and also too loud.
There is nothing original about the NES version aside from the fact that it sucks. It's not so much a port as a complete bastardisation.

This movie was cool. Somebody (saying this makes me a volunteer) should perhaps switch parts of the NES and Genesis movie descriptions, based on SprintGod's facts.

They're different games, mechanically, I think, and thus, different runs.

Indeed, the sound quality of this game creatively reminds me of the bathroom after a night of Mexican. In any case, several points of this had me laughing and trying to figure out what the hell just happened, like falling off the level and winning in 1, or the flying into the tube in 2... Voting yes, if only because it was fun to watch. (Although admittedly I probably would've overwritten the sound with midis or the NES version :P)

I know it's nearly a decade old, but great work on this! I love the balletic, virtuosic side of TAS, and this demonstrates it perfectly. There's a completely different (and far more arcade-accurate) port that was released by Tengen in Japan for the Mega Drive. I'd love to see a TAS for that one too.
