Mighty Bomb Jack is a multi-ending game that goes to rescue Jack's family from the pyramid. My aim in this movie are fastest time and best ending.
I used JPN version though I think there are a lot of visitors who played USA version. If you used to play USA, this movie may look a little strange. There are some differences in JPN and USA. The block of JPN is harder than that of USA, so we need jump a lot in order to break the block. In this respect, JPN is unsuitable for speedrun. But in JPN, we can collect many Secret coins which are needed to see the best ending by using death in Round 7. This is because the arrangement of the item is different.

Jack can jump high and do Power-up to 3 levels by using Mighty coins. The length of this Power-up is based on the number of times we press A button. The more A button is pressed, the more the length of Power-up shortens.
  • Default - he can open the red treasure box, not open orange-colord
  • 1 Mighty coin - he can open all treasure box
  • 2 Mighty coins - he can open all treasure box only by touching from side
  • 3 Mighty coins - he can take a Secret coin / the enemies change into the coins
I used warps. In the bomb rooms, when we touch the first bomb, another one is lit. (It changes by the bomb taken first.) We can warp to the bomb room of next Round by taking this lit bomb last. However, to see the best ending, we must collect 2 crystals and at least 5 Secret coins. So I don't use this warp in all Rounds in order to collect them.
Round 12 is too long and you might be bored...but I hope you enjoy this movie!

adelikat: I am rejecting this submission due to sub-par technical quality. Also, this game seems to have a very small following. While I kind of enjoy the run, I think the majority of the TAS community will not. Therefore, I am not so sure that an improved movie would be accepted.

I liked watching this and voted yes. I also watched Guybrush's fastest and scubed's best ending US videos first, which helped me understand a little of what's going on in the game (though I'm still sort of confused). Jumping is great, and clearly the route is heavily abusive... my only complaint is that for a game called Might Bomb Jack there are far too few explosions! ;)

I remember voting no for both Guybrush and Scubed's submissions for poor game choice/poor goals. So I expected to vote no for this as well. I was pleasantly suprised though. I was entertained enough to watch the whole movie. The death shortcuts were especially nice and both saved a lot of time and avoided a lot of repetitive backtracking. The rooms look more optimized than Scubed's as well and I was suprised by some of your solutions in the bonus levels. I give this a solid yes vote. Though I still think it barely meets site standards in terms of game choice. I worry that the lack of popularity of the game will be a problem though. Also, I am not sure the differences between the J & U versions. If someone submitted a faster version using the U rom, would that stir up controversy?

I think that we should treat it separately because I used the technique that is only in JPN version in order to take 2 secret coins. (Round 10, used death) If use USA version, we need a lot of time to take them though it is possible to go a little faster than JPN version in other parts.

I am only familiar with the US version. I have some questions about what you are doing in your movie: Right before the first crystal (12900) how do you get the door to open without the sphynx? In area 12, in the maze to get the second sphynx (22800) (after the first sphynx to enter the maze), why do you go down the whole chain, instead of starting at the bottom like I did? Or does that not work in the J version?

In USA version, some treasure boxes (maybe 3?) are seen, and can open them from side. But all treasure boxes are not seen in JPN, so we can't open from side, and need to open from top. These unpopular parts seem to have been improved when putting this game on the market in USA, especially the score adjustment... that is too difficult because there is no hint...

I'm sorry, but I wasn't really entertained by the run. The room that was cleared at frame ~7000 can be improved by picking up the last bomb closer to the door. Sorry, but I'm gonna vote no on this.

Also, I made 2 small mistakes iin the first jump, so a few more frames should be able to be shaven off. I suspect other rooms could be improved as well. Note: the movie in question is the one that starts at about frame 6400. The room starts at frame 1591.

You both are not right. lit bomb? ignited bomb? bomb with fire? ...Good expression don't cross my mind in English. If we don't do this like adelikat's replays, we don't warp to the next "bomb room". We must not take the all bombs without thinking about the order. Order is the most important to take the "lit(ignited?) bomb" last, and it is necessary to do the warp.

I don't know if it was rejected before this comment, but isn't it a little fast to reject for quality purpose before knowing why the author's made this. I didn't watch the improvement, but is it still valid ? hisatoki doesn't seems to approve your improvement, so why does this get rejected before having a better discussion about this ?

I think adelikat did not consider the long term consequences of the improvement in that one level. This submission should be reinstated to "waiting" status.

What action there was in this movie I felt was heavily fragmented by annoying door transitions and lengthy end of stage score counts. The action itself I found entertaining. The character was quick, the movement was slick and I enjoyed the style. Yet I found this to be worth almost nothing due to the problems stated above. I'd look forward to the next room only to have to wait too long to see it, by which time my anticipation had disappeared. Because of this I couldn't fully enjoy the movie so this gets a no vote from me. I don't expressly hate this movie and strongly considered voting meh. If said moments could be skipped then I'd vote yes. I've enjoyed your other movies, hisatoki, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Good game, good TAS. Voting yes. Would be nice with some more description of the game itself though, I didn't understand what the goal of the game was really. Stage 14 featured a very disturbing level design, I might add.

But, the doors made cute noises like in Wizard and Warriors and the score counts had a cute song, so that made up for it! Also I presume the funny bomb-collecting routes are to avoid too many bonuses and that you had this whole thing totally figured out, so I'm voting Yeah.

I had this game for a long time, and I could never figure out how to beat it. Not until I watched this video did I realize how far away I was from even coming close to beating it. I vote yes. Edit: Rather, if I could figure out how to vote, I would vote yes =P.

I happened to run across this game in a different context and decided to watch the encode of the TAS. Unfortunately it suffers from very bad sound desync. If an encoder has free time and wanted to make a fixed encode (or just stretch the audio to match the video in the existing encode), that'd be appreciated.

It is an AVI -> Should be re-encoded anyway.
