Who else has got one so far? Hippo and I camped out Saturday night to each get one. First impressions? All I can say is that Twighlight Princess is ridiculous (in a good way) :shock:

Is there a spoiler function with this message board set up? Something that blacks out the words, and the only way to read them is to scroll over or highlight the text? I plan on buying a Wii sometime this week. Probably wednesday night, assuming they have any in stock around here. I didn't feel like waiting in any lines, and I'm not about to kill myself if I have to wait a little while before I get one.

what I would hear about, is not about the games but rather what the innovative controllers bring to those games. we all know that the graphics will suffer from the comparison with the other consoles, it's not why one would buy Wii games. are the wiimote/nunchuk (last time I checked, one wrote "nunchaku" -.- ) precise enough, in which games ? are they immersive ? what are your feelings handling them ? what do they bring ? etc. about the games, the first reviews emerge those days, so I guess if you really want to hear about thosegames and their spoilers, there's plenty elsewhere already to read.

From what I understand, the Wiimote is actually really really great once you get used to it. With the nunchuk addition to it, I've heard some people say it's better than most controllers out there. However, the controller doesn't make the system. Graphics are great and the games appear to be really fun. I wouldn't advise you to read any reviews on the games, since reviewers seem to be on a "let's bring next gen down a notch by giving them harsh reviews" binge lately. I think someone even gave Red Steel a 55%, even though the averages across the board are in the 80% range.

I thought about that when I watched the first trailers. Apparently, it needs a lot of room to be really comfortable with this controller (and also a firm grip). :)

It's not a problem for me, as I will buy Wii right after I buy a big house with separate room for playing Wii... I mean never ^_^

Actually, I hear you don't really need to move it much at all to get desired effects. You can sit back and just move the wiimote right in front of you, rather than jump around and swing, and you'll still get the same effects.

But the atmosphere is different. You don't swing fishing rod in front of you, do you? (just one lame and simple example) =)

well, what I'm most interested in: does this controller allow precise movements? I'm talking about using it as a pointer, for the menu screen, or things like the grapple hook in TP. From the videos I've seen most users were just pointing it somewhere in the general direction of the screen, then slowly closing in on the thing they wanted to point at, then accidently moving the pointer away again when pressing the button. Is the system really that unprecise or where those guys just not used to them yet?

Depends on the screen. Everything is relative to the sensor, so a small TV will have you aiming at the wall behind it to hit the extreme points of the screen, while a huge TV might have you aiming closer to the center to get the extremes. Generally, though, it's all based on how comfortable you are with the concept of a bulky pointer: If you can't keep your hands calm enough, you can always take a step forward. Most people will probably start off with the gross approximation -> calculated correction technique until they become really comfortable with the game and controller set up. Some games will come with methods to counteract the loose controls of the wiimote (Red Steel has an aim-helping function).

I'm trilled about the Wii. I can't wait 'till I get my hands on it. Unfortunately, that won't happen until December 8th. It's like christmas is coming early for me. :D You will be able to tune the sensitivity of the controller. I saw a video of it on YouTube. By the way. Bisqwit already covered this, but if someone posts any Zelda spoilers (without tags), I will kill them.

I'm interested in that, could you please post the link ? tia. most reviews I read say that you cannot tweak the sensitivy, neither ingame (example : golf can be a bit frustating) nor in the sensor configuration (automatic calibration). but heh, it's the net.

yeah, and I hope it did not change since then. on top of that it's a development console, so might be different too ^^ the game that could really need sensitivity tweaking is Wii Sports's Golf, very hard to not curb/hook the ball. I also find that some games allow this change too : Metroid for instance. But it's somewhat limited.

Regarding the questions about the controller, it took about 5 minutes to get used to. Bundling Wii Sports in with the console was a brilliant move on Nintendo's part, as it's a great way to get familiar with the remote/nunchaku and feel comfortable with the various ways they can be used. Also, bowling is a lot of fun :) For Zelda, the controls feel like a natural extension of the N64 or GC controls. You still z-target and use the control stick to move (left hand), and only use the pointer for things that need pointing (which used to be akwardly done with the joystick in previous games). Quick spins are accomplished by simply giving the nunchaku a quick shake. The only thing I haven't gotten fully used to yet is swinging the remote like a sword to attack...I keep finding myself hitting the A button to try and swing the sword. I think Nintendo really hit it out of the park on this one; they aimed to make a system that was family friendly and fun to play, not trying to boast the most polygons/sec or mips or whatever...and they did just that. Yeah, the graphics are only moderately better than the GC, but then again, that's not why you'd buy a Wii I cannot wait for Metroid Prime 3 now...aiming with the remote is going to rule

The problem with the controller is not that it's unprecise. It's quite the oposite, it's very precise. And human hands shake. So it's obvious that you'll miss the target when hitting the button, because you moved the controller. Steady!

it's not that serious, since parkinsonians have already troubles with the traditional controllers any way. (sorry if I offended anyone.) aiming with an analog controller is very difficult too, and very unnatural. mice (PC) users can aim better, but the learning curve is very slow too. but yeah, with the Wiimote you can't stabilize your aim by laying your wrists on a table. but you can on your lap, like any paddle.

So far, I've found the most comfortable arrangement is to either sit crosslegged or straight legged, and rest my wrists on my knees when sitting. For the sports games though, you pretty much have to stand

Are the games location restricted? Like will J U and E be restricted to their continents again? Or like the DS, it doesn't matter? It takes another month before the Wii hits the Dutch stores, and I don't want Dutch (subbed/subtitled) games.
