So I'd like to say thanks for lettiing me register and I hope to be another audience member in the sea of movies. I've matched about 20 now and they're very entertaining. What adds even more interest is that I've been a hardcore gamer ever since the age of 5 and I have never stopped playing and will never stopped playing games. Good luck to all the TAS makers and I can't wait for all your entertaining movies. P.S. - Can regular members request games? And if so do we have to in the appropriate console categories? Thanks!

Hey man thanks for joining, enjoy your stay. Requests do happen occassionally, but in general people do runs they're interested in themselves for one reason or another. So don't feel discouraged if no one would listen to your requests. If no one does show interest, I think you should definitely consider trying it out yourself!

Thanks for the welcome! And I understand what you're saying about the video requests. I have been messing around with emulators for some time but I don't really think I have the know-how and time to do what you guys are doing (and a great job at that)! Thanks again :)

This is a pretty common misconception. You would be surprised at how quickly you will improve at making tool-assisted runs if you just do routine environments using frame advance. Not everyone starts off perfectly, but it's not hard to become a competent runner in a short amount of time. Just keep at it, and you'll get better very quickly.

The best way to learn is to just dive right in. Find a game you like and posts WIPs as you make progress. This way not only will you get some experience, but other members will be able to offer you tips on not only how to improve the run, but to improve your skills as a runner.

Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay =] As mentioned above from the fellow posters, the best way is to just try it out. That's what I did with my project, and it's been redone 4 times (each redo makes me better!) So just play a lot, upload WIPs, and correct your mistakes. Pretty soon, you'll be pro la :P

Or just do what I did and pick a game with high entertainment value that masks your incredibly poor TASing skills. *nervous smile* *thumbs up*

I suggest watching and rating some of the published movies, decide for yourself what is entertaining. See what has been published and think why, what is special about it. It'll give you a keen eye for a good TAS and that can be translated into your own work.

The difficulty is not in the process, it's the results. Honestly, anyone who is patient can make one of these movies. The challenge lies in the entertainment of the final run-through as perceived by someone who may or may not be familiar with the game. My lone effort at movie-making was simply a matter of time, not excertion. However, another player realized a faster and far more entertaining method and obsoleted my movie by several minutes.

welcome... To say things about TASing (new verb), I'd say that it's not hard to understand the process... though its' quite time consuming... The hard part is to select a game that would make a great TASpeedrun... Though I'm sure there still are plenty of those... well try to try once at least

I couldn't say it better!
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

RUN PAPERBOY!! Can Paperboy be the official 'breaking in' of all prospective submitters? Like, before one can try to submit something, they should attempt to run Paperboy and beat it in X amount of time with Y amount of points, both of which are forgiving? As in, 25-% from the maximum is acceptable, anything more is grounds for retrying. Granted, it isn't an official system, but it would help people casually work their way around emulators.

Thanks very much for the support guys! It would be cool to see what the memory dump thing is? RNG for RPG's ( How do you even see that?) I think that platformers are the most entertaining (and maybe the majority of the movies?) and the glitches are hilarious sometimes (metroid anyone?). I understand that it would take a LOT of time. However, I have college, work, class, homework, and a g/f (<<<< most of the time is spent right there haha). I think I won't be TASing for a very long time. In the meantime however, I get TAS runs of games that me and my roomies have played and load them up with some good ole beverage and snacks and we just have a good time. I still say thanks to the players and wish them even more luck :).

Me being too lazy to TAS, I tend to give input in other areas that TAS runners can use. Most of my productive input comes from watching other WIPs and giving feedback. Sometimes, I even discover the occasional trick/route revision too. So don't beat yourself up, if you just don't have the motivation to TAS. I felt bad intially (all I did was watch, and critique), but any input often helps the most determined speedrunner. Giving moral support is helpful too :). That being said, I am considering improving the Kirby's Avalanche TAS (probably not going to do it, though), but that's beside the point. Welcome to the forums, and enjoy your stay. I know I am.
