This is a run I would love to see. I tried to register at the first link you had there (combosomething.com) but I only found that I had to pay to download stuffs? I havne't checked fileplanet (the other link, I think it was fileplanet) yet but are there any other sites that hosts this awesome run?

Hmm try registering on fileplanet, it's free. As for people dissapointed about no 2nd castle, I did finish a Richter speedrun that's only 7 seconds off world record (7m 26s). I'll upload it in a while.

I got it down from FilePlanet and wow! this is one great run! I don't know how much I've played this game but some things were just awesome. Like jumping high while in wolf-form and also I don't think I've ever tried that shield rod-combination you did to beat all the bosses in no time ;) Fantastic.

Nice run as usually. There are some minor flaws, but rest makes up for it. Good job.

Hi there, I've been discussing with a few people over at SDA for a few days now about doing a 100% SotN Run. I have a few things to talk about first, and would like any suggestions or advice that could be offered. By 100% (or, as the game calls it, 200.6%, I think?), I mean: * Full Map Coverage, including secret areas accessible without glitches. * Full list of relics collected. * All power-ups (Life Boosts and Heart Boosts) collected. * All "boss" monsters defeated. The ones I'm a little iffy on would be: * All monsters defeated. By that, I don't mean everytime I come across a monster, I have to fight it, but rather, I encounter and defeat at least 1 of every monster. That gives me the whole monster catalog (or whatever it's called). The only time I see this becoming a true issue is in situations like that one monster the Lesser Demon boss summons (the Mudman?), and that's the only place in the game he can be encountered. That potentially makes for a very long battle if he takes too long to summon the monster. * All original items owned by Alucard collected. This was brought up by a friend of mine, but he said that since Death took those items at the beginning, I should get them all back. That means Alucard's Sword, Shield, and Armor, Necklace of J, and Twilight Cloak(?). Not sure on this one either, but since I get the Sword and cloak anyway in my own runs, that shouldn't be too outlandish. * Glitch-only areas. I don't know much about these, but I know they exist (like that one right inside the main gate, the second you start, that lets you go down into some cave with a save point?). It seems silly of me to work towards that kind of goal, but it may be necessary for some people to count it as 100%. I guess if it's an area that would be accessible in the console game, then I should have to try to get to it on the emulator, but I would definitely like to discuss this with people. I wouldn't use save states, though I would probably use save points if I did it that way. I would love to do a single-segment run, but I have an irritated sciatic nerve, and can't sit for more than an hour or so at a time, so would have to save and take breaks. It's been recommended to me that I should (or would have to) include all monster drops (items that can only be obtained by random drops), as well as at least one of every item in the game. I'm really doubting that this would be very feasible. I'm honestly not very interested in a "luck manipulation" run of the game, which is what the game would become if I did that. I've studies several other runs of the game, but since none are 100%, I wouldn't be able to use their particular sequence breaks. However, I have mapped out a strategy that gets all the necessary locations out of the way quickly enough, and then circles around (once I have the bat and the super jump) to get certain other areas. I would love to discuss this with someone who has given this project at attempt, or either knows the map and "standard" sequence very well. I also think that I would do my best to not use the whole Shield Rod/Alucard's Shield effects, or the Crissaegrimm. I know these aren't cheats or glitches, but it makes the game less fun (in my opinion). I've mastered enough of the battles that I think I could do it in a good time without using those, and the battles I'm not sure of, I would learn to master (such as "locking" galamoth so he can't move, and such). So, this is basically where I ask, what do you guys think? Do you think the options I outlined above would qualify? Should there be more? Less? I honestly don't really like the idea of abusing glitches, deaths, etc, but if that's how it would have to qualify, then I'm willing to give it a shot. It would just require me to essentially to relearn the game. Thanks, -Ish

PSX rerecording doesn't exist yet. Or rather, a reliable rerecording emulator for psx doesn't exist.

Umm, I believe he's talking about an unassisted run.

Over at sda he was inquiring whether emulator runs were allowed.

Yes, from what I understand, Ishmayl wants to make an unassisted run on an emulator.

If he's gonna submit to sda, why not just buy a copy of the game? SOTN shouldn't go for more than $60 on ebay.

Alright, I've been playing around with mz's rerec pcsx, and thought I'd get the ball rolling at least for some discussion of SOTN now that it can at least be somewhat researched. Firstly, Normal Mode vs Luck Mode. I think it should be Normal, since you need a 'Clear' Save for Luck mode, making it New Game+, IMO. Secondly, Single Stopscreen Edge travel should be investigated.(Edge Travel is a technique that allows OOB moving) While only one such occurence has been reported on worldbeyondwalls.free.fr (SOTN glitching community) there hasn't, as you know, been any TAS-level tools available to try with. Thirdly, Stats. They seem to be manipulatable, but to what extent I don't know. Alucard's starting stats can be manipulated by how you finish the Richter intro stage but it seems like the important things can't really be helped in normal mode. (See "Lastly") Lastly, movie time! From power-on until killing first Drac's second form in 5622 frames. Not 100% sure which game version you'll need since I only have the one I dumped from my disc. Note that even though I finish with the Cross, I only get 25 MP as Alucard later (I should get 30).Not sure if/more likely how it's improvable since it's my first real TAS-work. :) If you are able to playback this, that'd be plain awesome. Get IT here!

Wow, that was absolutely great! I would have loved to see you do more stuff while waiting, especially since Richter is so fast, but it was great anyway. Thank god I was able to play it back, but I had to change the audio plugin. It looks like you've used the "No Sound 0.4" SPU plugin I've put in the archive, which sadly sucks ("Null Sound Driver 1.0" is a lot better and more compatible with the rest, or you can also use the SPUasync option in the others). I'll try to encode this and put it on YouTube when I have some free time, if you don't mind. Also, we should make a standard MemoryCard with a "Clear" save, so we can use it always in the future for Richter mode and Luck mode.
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Well, why not include the Null Sound Driver then? :P Go right ahead and upload it, I'm honored! I'd do it myself but I'm on a crappy mobile broadband connection.

stat gains on levelup are easily manipulatable, just delay killing the last enemy a couple of frames until you get your perfect level up. It's a bit tedious, but not difficult. Life and Mana-gains aren't random though. You won't get perfect starting stats on your first playthrough. You can't skip the dialogs, but they're still counted towards your time, making it impossible to reach the required time (at least for unassisted players). looking forward to an encode so I can watch this. :)

Here's my encode: YouTube Video. I didn't encode it in 4:3 aspect ratio, as I thought YouTube would correct it. Sorry. :P

I didn't know about it back then. Also, I haven't played with it very much, and maybe it's only better in some games. Anyway, I've been trying to write my own sound plugin, as they seem to be the main cause of desyncs right now.

you don't need a clear save for Luck Mode. that can be done out of the box. the reason you didn't get 30MP was because the Drac fight took too long. the game's timer counts cutscenes. the vid looked good. i'm eager to see more.

You could also play as Richter throughout the entire game, just put in Richter as your name and you'll be him.

I thought Richter mode required a clear save? Anyway, this is awesome, and I predict that we'll eventually have the following SotN TASes on the site: * Normal / any% / glitched * Normal / any% / glitch-free * Luck mode (depends on how the item manipulation works out; might combine with a "100%" mode) * Richter mode / glitched * Richter mode / glitch-free * Maria mode (once Saturn TASing is available...might take a while!) I remember playing this game without ever equipping gear, aside from the plot gear (rings, glasses) and possibly the Spike Breaker armor because I couldn't be arsed to memorize the spike room. It's so hilariously unbalanced that a TASer should have no trouble at all completely ruining it. The trick is doing so with style.

Oh wow, looks like me and a bunch of FAQ authors should try before buying into that kinda stuff.. :S That's gonna make everything a whole lot faster. Another thing to consider is if any eventual run should be on the (J) version. It would enable the wolf glitch Richter skip but on (U) it might be as fast or faster if one could actually pull off a single stop-screen ET to get the Holy Goggles fast.Other than that I can't think of any pluses for (J).

There is a glitch which can kill Dracula in 5 seconds, it only works in J version.
