I thought about making a TAS on the little known game "High Seas Havoc" for a while now. I picked it because its a game I really enjoy playing and somehow I thought it was good for a first try at speedruns. So if someone knows the game, do you think its a good choice? btw: if someone knows any tricks/things about the game that could help me, it would be nice if you would let me know ;) I already went frame by frame through the intro/menu (didnt change difficult, since expert would take the chance of taking damage for speed and I didnt see any reason in going to the menu just to make the difficult harder but not highest) and recorded the first level. I had recorded the second level + boss too, but it got lost somehow (was loading a wrong savegame while recording I think)

Seems like nobody has the game/is intrested. anyways here's a WIP, maybe someones intrested in giving feedback.. (*AKA Cap'n Havoc) Honestly, I am surprised nobody has published a run of this obscure, colorful, and brutally difficult 90s-era platformer. Back in 2006 someone posted a run, but never submitted it and was generally ignored. Now it seems that run has been lost to the sands of time. Anyone who has ever played the game would know how harsh and cruel it is on any difficulty, so to see a complete TAS of the game would be very therapeutic, much like the Alien Storm TAS. So, any takers on this stress generator? Or, has anyone managed to save the run from 2006?

Any particular reason you didn't post in the already existing thread? Having more than one thread per game leads to clutter and disorganized information.

That's because you didn't read the forum rules. Not only is it okay, it's required. Though we're generally pretty relaxed about enforcement, especially on first offense.

Yeah, I never understood why other forums pitch such a fit over mere topic-bumping. How can people get so offended by seeing one old topic move to the top of the list?

Probably because old topics stop being relevant on other forums. 2000 presidential election? It's 2009. Who cares anymore? Bubble Bobble, though— that's always topical around here. :p

So I found this game and it seems alright, though it may be a bit boring to watch the full run. I wasn't sure what topic to post on, since there were 2; I went with the original. I have some questions on this game however; I know the game's difficulty is usually preferred on the hardest mode. This game's difficulty only changes how many hits the character can take as far as I can see. Selecting the hardest difficulty (expert) will only slow the run down because you'll have to take time to change it, and you won't be able to take damage in the run (Expert kills you in 1 hit). I finished the first 2 levels on the "Hard" difficulty (2 hits = death) and I've already found 1 spot where taking damage saves time over maTO's run. Here's my playaround file that I whipped up in about an hour (subject to change obviously, and is ~20 or so frames ahead of maTO's because of the difficulty selected): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/592021958/Exxonym_Havoc_test.gmv 1. I think it does. It is basically Sonic without steroids, which should be good enough. It includes lots of running to the right, but hopefully some nice tricks will emerge sooner or later.

Uh... don't we already have a TAS of this? And if you play on the Easy difficulty, the game ends after stage 3. If you play in Normal, the game goes all the way to the end. But if you play on hard, there is an extra level before the first one.
