Hi Ive been lurking on the site and forums for a while now, excellent site :) I just want to suggest what I think is the best NES emulator: Nestopia http://nestopia.sourceforge.net/ Its supports rerecording, I tested it to make sure thats a fact. But I really suggest it because its runs better and renders better than any other nes emu i have used. Give it a shot. I hope that we see more nsv files :)

First question on top of my mind… How does it compare to Nintendulator? Edit: Second question… Contrary to Nintendulator, the source code doesn’t seem to be soaked with windowsisms. Which is good. However, the Win32 portion of the source code is suspiciously large, which lets me wonder whether too many of the emulator features are implemented in the OS-specific section. Are there plans of a Linux version?

Bisqwit: I spoke to a MAME dev a while back to said he was porting Nestopia to Linux. Nestopia has also been ported to Mac OS X. I'm not sure which is more accurate Nestopia or Nintendulator, but I have been told they are the top 2. I also brought this up a while back in the IRC channel, but no one seemed to care.

No, it doesn't. It could support it, but right now it only supports regular recording.

@Bisqwit I found a utility you made :) http://bisqwit.iki.fi/source/nesmock.html However I see it doesnt have write support for VirtuaNES, although its planned. Also I found this topic in the forum http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=215 I was just wondering if there is any progress for vmv support. The reason i suggested Nestopia in the begining was i was amazed by the quality of it. Well VirtuaNES is a close second, and playing TAS in that would be great. :)

Well I think you just have to remove whatever silly cheat potential was there.

Sorry if bumping a topic this old is considered bad, but I wonder if there might be any interest in supporting Nestopia as of late. It currently has a Linux port (though does not seem to work on OpenBSD (didn't try other BSDs)), but the main problem is that movies do not seem to be recorded in any way acceptable for this site; so the whole movie process probably needs to be redone in the emulator. Is it just me, or would it be really good to use an emulator oriented to be as accurate as possible compared to the real NES? Not only does it enable a few games unplayable on FCEU to be played, but it also seems better towards making movies that show what is *possible* in a game, when the emulator itself doesn't (intentionally) change the behavior of a game. (but then, would we all start using bsnes as well, etc? :P)

The SNES9x movie of Illusion of Gaia had really slow scenes walking from area to area, while ZSnes ran those at normal speed. What does hardware do?

Give me a location area as reference. I own the game and could do some test videos if I have time.
Taking over the world, one game at a time. Currently TASing: Nothing

Nestopia fully work under Linux an Mac OS X. And the lack of development of FCEU makes this one pointless. There is no reasons that we don't switch to Nestopia. What are you, YES YOU MR. Programmer, to add the missing needed feature so people could use a much more accurate NES emulator to make movies??
