Because Simon found something new that makes old strat faster.

Here's the new strat pulled off! As usual, ended with 40.98 and that was incredibly hard, I think I had a lot of luck in this run. I hope you to get as many luck as me and to cake it better!

Wow. This game is really great for TAS-ing.

Except that in the end lots of the levels just look like non-stop running while manipulating enemies so they won't hit you enough to kill. :/ I've played the game a lot, but just couldn't get myself to be as much entartained as others by any of its runs.

Whah, that's just awesome! Wyster are you going to replicate that or trying for even faster? :) Not sure if simon was playing from the same savestate as you are.... not sure if it'd matter either :P

Well i'm actually not sure if faster is possible at all, don't think so. I'll however try to optimize the run completely and see how far that goes. Not sure when i will continue/finish run, not really in the motivation for the moment but i did start up the level yesterday anyways.

Thanks ^^ Just had a major setback in Bunker 2, after a fantastic start("Too good" as quoted from Simon) I realized after CCTV tape that my klobb guard positions were too far away, only way to fix it is to go back to the very start and watch more cinema..argh. Might post the started M64 for a minor WIP of what's to come :P

I would love to see this finished! Goldeneye was one of my favourite games as a child, so I think seeing the final result would be awesome :D

Sry bout that :P Anyway, just before my "break" i managed to redo B2 all the way to the first safe key pretty much. My TT was slightly ahead of simon at CCTV tape but i always manage to get slightly behind at safe key(unacceptable of course). So basicly what i've been doing a little now and then over the last 2 months is redo the segment from outside CCTV room to safe key room trying to get fast safe key guy and not loose major time compared to simons run. THIS however, is way harder than i thought. I've done roughly 20 redos of this segment and so far i haven't even been close. If i can get through this segment the rest of the level is gonna go be uber easy to do. 20000 rerecords for 15-20 seconds of TAS so far...looooots of redos. Oh well, i might give this another try today or something.

Any news?
Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. What Truth? There is nospoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that changes, it is only yourself

not really, i try from time to time but manipulating that guard is incredibly difficult. It's really just luck and chances are very very low.

For the sake of you guys and a certain 5 dollars i've at least given Bunker2 another shot at completion. Unavoidably i loose around 30 frames at safe key guy so i'm roughly 20 frames behind Simon at that point. Hopefully i can somehow regain that by being awesome in all other parts... If i can do a 40 i'll stick with it.

I'm not sure if everyone knows this, so I figured I'd post it here. Water Caverns 00 Agent would likely be faster using the Japanese copy of Goldeneye because it has the same body armor placement as Secret Agent. Meaning, you could get more boosts...

Well, why is he not using the Japanese ROM then? Anyway, Wouter, I had the distinct pleasure of watching some outtakes from your DK64 speedrun a couple days ago thanks to Infil. Good show sir, good show ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I think the rule here is not to use a Japanese ROM unless there's a very good reason? the Body Armor would probably not even save any time, I reckon the TAS could skip going down there anyway so the BA would just be out of the way. also, NTSC is advantaged on most things, but little is known about the Japanese version in retrospect.. it would have to be investigated at least.

The Japanese cartridge is also NTSC. The only slower aspect I have seen is some lag on one screen with a LOT of Japanese text which, granted, may be an issue in a TAS. Regarding whether you go down by the body armor, it's possible you could save more time by going down there (especially if you consider extra boosts it would allow). Also, it may be worth testing if you can shoot the body armor up to the catwalk as you run by (though that would probably destroy it and I don't think you can get it to jump upwards).

I'm sure every detour could save time.. how about just compare the routes first? the idea of shooting the BA up the catwalk is hilarious.. if you are going to take it, you'll be going down for it. testing never hurts.
