Run comments

This appears to be the first TAS of the U-version to get the best ending, but there have been a few real-time speedruns in this category. This TAS follows the real-time route with a few tweaks, such as which mighty coins to collect and there are also many room solutions that can be played slightly differently in a TAS setting.
There are a lot of different options when it comes to the routing. For more information about some of the considerations that have gone into it, the interested reader is referred to the resources linked to above.

This TAS uses a lot of inputs from #8874: SpaceColonizer & ktwo's NES Mighty Bomb Jack in 05:59.51 and an unpublished draft of a best ending TAS for the J-version, also done by 'SpaceColonizer'. Hence the co-authorship, even though I ('ktwo') have worked alone on this particular TAS.

With there being warps, deaths, different endings and different versions, there could potentially be a lot of different categories for this game. On tasvideos, there is currently an any% of the U-version and a best ending of the J-version (both with warps and deaths). Since this submission aims to add another category, it might be worth discussing the topic of categories. The current TASes on tasvideos are the fastest ways to complete the game for the standard and best ending. This submission adds another combination of the many possibilities. The reason for submitting this is because the route changes from the J-version (because of a very conveniently placed "S-coin" in the J-version that isn't there in the U-version). The differences between the versions are big enough that the completion times are not comparable (other than for individual rooms). Another reason is that most of the real-time speedrunners have been playing on the U-version, so there is an interest in covering this version also for the best ending. I could go on talking about the other category combinations. But the short story is that these are the three categories I think are the most interesting and nicely cover what this game has to offer. I'm of course not going to stop anyone from doing other categories, but there hasn't been much interest for any of them so far, so I don't think it's too likely that tasvideos will be flooded with similar-looking TASes of different category combinations.
