What's a "perfect" chess game, though? No piece losses? No checks received? Both? I'm not quite sure either of those would be possible, unless one of the players would play horribly.

What's a "perfect" chess game, though?
A perfect game where each side plays the best move is assumed to be a draw by some Grandmasters. But since this is a TAS, it would probably entail beating up the snes Chessmaster very badly in just a few moves. Something we can do already. :p

Well, Ironman players actually are allowed to return to town at their leisure (and ability). They just can't interact with the townspeople. This is useful for dropping off items you might need later, as well as for leaving gold on the ground (since in proper Ironman competitions, gold is used as a tiebreaker). Yeah, I'm a pedant. unless

Well, once you get to Gannnonn's room to prove that you can do it, you can just run all the way back to the beginning, pick up the brown sword, and run all the way back to Gannnonn to win!

I think the concept of a perfectly played competitive videogame is kinda dumb. Imagine: Player 1 maniuplates player 2 into a certain situation, then proceeds to perform a cheap manuver over and over which finishes him off. And you just keep watching that over and over. Take SSBM, for example. Theoretically, a perfect TAS of a 1v1 would involve both characters violently attacking at each other, but the each dodging every attack. It would be fun to watch for the first 5 minutes, but it would never end! However, since the characters in SSBM are all intrinsically different, having their own strenghts and weaknesses, it would be the job of the superior character to use his powers to manipulate the other character into a situation he cannot get out of, where player 1 would just need to perform some cheap move over and over to finish him off without getting hit. That would also be kinda dull to watch.

Back to the original topic: =p Currently possible: Seiken Densetsu 3 (and I have no idea why nobody ever mentions this) Not currently possible: Star Ocean 3 (TSA just had to prune the other 30+ games from his list) =p Being action RPGs, both these games would be very interesting to watch from an action standpoint with also the great planning and strategy of an RPG. SO3 has skippable cutscenes, which is a plus. Both are quite long and nobody has seriously considered them, so the amount of man hours saved would also be optimized.

Just change the rules a bit. Instead of a completely swordless run, one could do a "can get swords but cannot use swords outside of Gannon's room" run. Outside of Gannon, there's nothing in the game that forces you to press the sword button to win.

Frame perfect Half-life (1 or 2) (with vsync at 60) The only bad part of this speed run would be, it would look like he has an aimbot...but essentially he does...

It's simply not the same if it doesn't show the A-button box empty throughout the entire run. Any TAS or speedrun that has to "change the rules a bit" in that sort of manner is inherently less entertaining. -hanzou

Unless one side is won from the start, in which case whoever had the advantage made a mistake by offering or accepting a draw.

Heh, have you ever seen the computers get into a loop where they just roll past each other repeatedly? And Hanzou would still like to know what issue that was.

I would like to see a TAS of any FPS. Half-life would probably be best, but I'd settle for Golden Eye as well. I've seen speedruns of the genre and they are actually quite enjoyable to watch. Think how much better they'd be with a perfect player. What else? Ocarina of Time Bust a Move (or another game of the same kind) Games which the site doesn't support yet: Tomb Raider Spyro

Most of the timesavers in that game consist of tau/damage boosts, not shooting at enemies.

Fastest Super Mario 64 any% or 100%, it would be nice to know if you could beat that game without any stars, and see how much time can shaved from FODA's run, since there are so many different routes.
