I used Snes9x v1.43+ for windows.
Emulator movie settings:
  • WIP1 Timing
  • Allow Left+Right / Up+Down
  • Volume Envelope Height Reading.
I don't use any warps or passwords.
There is one flaw in the game that I experimented with, though it doesn't seem to save much time. If you switch a pair of blobs from their horizontal position to their vertical position; and slide them right or left onto a pile one block higher there will be less of a delay between a blob settling and a new blob falling.
I don't take any hits until after my combos are released. I use the small boulders to my advantage when making them.
My aims for this game were:
  • Complete the game as fast as possible on it's highest difficulty.
  • To entertain the viewer with the combos, instead of just making them.
  • To attain the highest score possible without losing time.
Kirby's Avalanche is a tetris based game where you go through dreamland, fighting various opponents from the Kirby games. Your goal is to become the Avalanche champion.
I made this movie one time before and submitted it. After studying it farther I found things that I could have made better, such as less overkills. I managed to beat all but two of my times. I lost time on Stage 6 somehow. I re-did that level the most time trying to get the blobs to form for a better score, but I couldn't. I got the same time on stage 5.
  • Stage 1: 0:28 > 0:24
  • Stage 2: 0:24 > 0:23
  • Stage 3: 0:26 > 0:25
  • Stage 4: 0:24 > 0:22
  • Stage 5: 0:26 > 0:26
  • Stage 6: 0:25 > 0:27
  • Stage 7: 0:26 > 0:23
  • Stage 8: 0:30 > 0:23
  • Stage 9: 0:28 > 0:25
  • Stage 10:0:27 > 0:26
  • Stage 11:0:24 > 0:25
  • Stage 12:0:31 > 0:25
  • Stage 13:0:30 > 0:24
Overall the improvement dropped me below 8 minutes! :) I have almost a double re-record count this time, I actually enjoyed trying to perfect this game. There are still a couple areas that look un-optimized, but believe me: I went through every possible combonation of blobs and sometimes it was still all or nothing.
This movie should be much more entertaining. Not only did I do it faster, I also attained a higher score and much more complex combos. Also, every blob has it's purpose in this run; unlike other runs which had wasted blobs and time.
This movie is the same exact run that I, and Tuggummi did. Even though niether were published I felt there were improvements to be made. So I made them!

Bisqwit: Good enough :) Processing.

Once again, you have impressed me with this run. Not only it is better and faster, it's more creative this time around. It's a pity that you lost time VS Lololo and Lalala, but otherwise the run is just great. I've noticed that this VS your older run, you're actually as fast as King Dedede this time. In your other run you were slightly slower, but only just slightly. Well, pointless to point this out, but still - just something I've noticed. Anyway, this run gets a big yes from me.

Thanks Sketchie. I hope this run is a little more entertaining to those that didn't seem to think the first one was quite that. :)

That's what I call a job well done! Congratulations on this one! Everytime I saw those red "blocks" come down on the enemies, I started to laugh! So many times have I played this game, and so many times did I get frustrated at some enemies... I've got nothing but good things to say about this run! Huge YES vote from me!

This one is much better than the last one. I don't think there's much left to improve (maybe some frames, but I doubt any stage other than 6 could be a second faster) and it's much better entertainment. Would've voted yes this time, but can't anymore.

Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed, I too got annoyed with this game many times, as I still have it on my real SNES. :)

thanks, it makes me feel proud that I accomplished what i was going for in the second run. I agree that lololo and lalala suck :P. i will have to try again eventually.

Great that someone with better skills than me did this :) Loved the combos here, the way you build them up was so confusing that i couldn't follow it which is a good thing! Also the steady times on each level is great. Definetly a Yes from me! And im cancelling my own submission now. edit: which was already rejected, saved me the bother :D

Thank you. I couldn't watch your run of this game, it kept de-syncing on me *tries again* i did whole levels over multiple times to find the most complex way of making a combo. Lololo and Lalala proved the worst...the set of blobs i got for them was just horrific and took me 27 seconds and the most retries out of any level to get them to act ok.

Since it's already been published my YES vote won't count a whole lot anymore. Still, I had fun watching this. A nice tetris clone with big cuteness-factor. Keep striving for quality-runs like this one!

It actually kinda annoys me when folk call colour-matching games a 'Tetris-style' game, since Tetris only shares the similarity of game-pieces falling down a 'well'. It's more similar to 'columns' if you want a more popular comparison. And surely everyone knows what 'colour matching' means? Conversely, I loved watching this video. It was fun trying to work out what the combos were gonna be before they were 'set off' and the action really was non-stop. I imagine this was fun to make!
