I had made this movie using BizHawk. In this TAS, I softlocked Super Mario Bros. at the end of 1-1.
It was made on 10 Sept 2021.
It is done in the PAL version because it gives Mario more x position towards the right side of the screen making the softlock possible.
feos: This run is about 133 milliseconds faster than the human record for this category (RTA runners use PAL ROM, but their videos are at 60fps), but about 2 frames slower than the PAL SMB TAS. 1 frame is lost in the underground due to making a small jump which gives you less downward momentum, and 1 frame is lost after getting out of the pipe, but I was unable to understand what magic input HappyLee does exactly to go faster there.
While we're still working on the rules for Playground, this submission seems to fit in so far. Delaying until Playground is implemented (should be soon).
feos: So this is decently done, the goal has some following so it will be interesting to people, and it's clearly defined and is different from what we can published. So it goes to Playground.

This movie softlocks pretty fast, but I also get bored just as fast. It's an interesting idea, and maybe I'd like it more if it wasn't done on the most over-TASed game ever.

Sorry, if I did a mistake, but I didn't saw this category TAS on this site, hence, submitted it.
I don't think it should be published because of the goal, but I voted yes. I was very curious how this was to be done, got even more curious at the stairs, and smiled at the end if the video. I liked watching this video. Well done.
I don't find this entertaining: nothing original happens in the first half (compared to existing SMB movies) and nothing at all happens in the second half. Voting no.
I believe "fastest softlock" movies have been consistently rejected in the past as a poor goal choice; I'm aware that the site rules are being changed, but as far as I know "fastest softlock" movies are not being considered as a new standard goal for the site (except where such movies are highly entertaining). Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.
The run doesn't seem to very interesting or entertaining in my opinion. Additionally, it looks like it's done on the PAL version, but sped up by a factor of 6/5. The https://tasvideos.org/MovieRules additionally state that NTSC is preferred over PAL, unless there is a specific reason to use PAL. If this softlock is only possible on the PAL version, that should be stated in the submission comments. Otherwise, future such movies should be done on the 60 Hz NTSC version.

Yes, this is only done in PAL version because Mario accelerates slightly faster in this version which helps in covering more X position towards right with a backwards jump.
I don't think this setup will be successfull in the NTSC version. All the Speedrun and TASes for this setup are done using the PAL rom.
