So now that Atari 2600 graphical bugs are resolved, I thought it might be a good time to bring up Publication Updates again, since many (11) of the published A2600 runs contain obvious graphical bugs that are now fixed. Probably the worst case, mainly since it had the most going on in it, is Frogger, which has probably the worst encode I'm aware of on the site (not by any fault of feos, just the nature of emulation at the time.) Here is a poor quality temp that is still better then the shaky current one: Link to video In updating the encode it would of course be necessary to update the movie file (in this case just converting to Bk2, but in others maybe more would be needed.) So maybe there can be a way to formalize this process? There are other runs for other platforms that could use updates, but A2600 is probably the most warranted due to obvious defects, so I thought this would be a good place to start. I realize it's low priority, but I still think it would be good have a system in place. (And I think it's already understood that credit would remain with the original author, so I don't really consider that an issue.) Any thoughts?

If we're talking about Atari 2600 specifically. [2579] A2600 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Death Star Battle by jlun2 in 00:08.73 [2226] A2600 Superman "pause glitch" by jlun2 in 00:11.42 [2243] A2600 Adventure "Skill Level 1" by negative_seven in 00:31.93 Are done, I am going over all, Atari 2600 TASes (pre-2015). Since there isn't that many 2600 TASes. I'm not looking into doing the downloadables though, only the YouTube encodes. Also, considering the recent progress with Atari 2600 on BizHawk. All Atari 2600 TASes would have to be updated in terms of new submissions, if I'm not mistaken.

I guess completely new submissions are one way to deal with it, but I just want to make sure. I don't think the times for games like Superman or Dodge Em will be improved, so will a new submission just be replacing an old run with one that is basically identical? The score in A2600 superman does not shake, and the first zero is not extra wide as in that updated encode, these are the kinds of bugs I am referring too. But I wasn't trying to be specific to A2600, just using it as perhaps the most relevent example.

Since the topic is Publication Updates it applies to everything. This post, is going to mainly directed to Virtual Boy. I will take full priority work if this is allowed. For Virtual Boy downloadables, I want to remove the pink, forever. The method I used, is to dump both screens separately (You do this for the YouTube, so there's no harm there). Remove the lovely pink, and pair the two video files together with the 3D External Filter, Anaglyph. It would go from: to: Also, isn't this topic actually suited for Encoders' corner instead of Sites?

Your version looks even better with red-green glasses because the image is not as reddish, and it's thus clearer. Except perhaps for one thing: The cyan coloring is not filtered as well by the red filter as the original dark blue. This easily causes ghosting. (And btw, the technical term is "magenta".)

Surprisingly, with my 3D glasses that I have on hand, there is no ghosting for either image (and video, not providing one, unless requested.), I was concerned about the filter colour for the cyan too, but it was perfectly fine from what I was able to gather. Edit: Here's another example using this movie instead, including the other filters: Blue-Amber & Green-Magenta.

I must confess that I got my glasses from a cereal box. (Yes, seriously.) They might not be of the highest quality possible. But they work well with the dark blue version of the images.

Well my intent was to include updating movie files too, not just encodes. A proper encode of Superman for example would need the Bkm replaced by a bk2 from the next BizHawk release, the run itself being optimal but the emulator used being outdated.

If the only thing that would change is the encode, and not any of the run input, there's no reason to update the movie file. Just keep the movie file the way it was originally submitted and published, for authenticity reasons.

Maybe a mirror/alt link? I know older versions of BizHawk is now mirrored on this site, but having a file that works with newer versions without needing to convert would be nice.

Well, simple answer; Greyscale Red-Cyan > Everything Else. The other filters were just to show for those that don't have Red-Cyan, and the Pink (Magenta) is the one we should be avoiding.

Some of the movie files would change due to different timnig. So you'd have to change the movie file to get the updated encode anyway. I do like jlun2's idea of having an alternate movie file though alongside the original, seems like a good solution to both currency and authenticity. Is there a good way to do this at present ?

Yes, the site allows to have 2 movie files co-exist in a publication, though maybe it required a hack.

So since 1.11.7 is now released, I thought I might revive this topic and suggest some updates to the A2600 runs. Link to video Here is an updated encode of Superman, the first zero in the score is no longer double wide and it doesn't shake up and down. Here is a re-synced movie file to go along with it: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/33411156811406467 I don't know what/ if there is a process to go through for this, but I do plan to update the glitchy 2600 runs one way or another. For ones that can't be improved like Superman, I guess for now I will just post them here. Or if it is preffered, I can just re-submit them under the orignal authors name, either way seems preferrable to having all those glitchy movies hanging around. Anyway let me know what you think.
