So apparently nobodies ever done a TAS of this game. Ever.
It's been on my mind for a while now that I would love to TAS this game, since I grew up with it years back and still enjoy picking it up today. Over the past 3 days I've been working on a TAS and it's around 1/3 completed. It is going for good times, no crashes, minimal losses of speed and no arrests. It also abuses a helpful little glitch I found that causes the game to stop playing sound, which saves about 2 frames every loading screen. Here's the current WIP of my run:

seems an interesting project, looking forward to see the results!
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto.
TAS i'm interested:
Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS?
i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.
Well the music also causes slowdown on tight turns for whatever reason. Once I get to the final set of races I'll reenable it since you can fix the glitch by mashing start at a few correct frames.

Neat game. It reminds me of Skitchin', since both games were made by EA and they clearly are cousins of one another. Two quick questions though:
1) Is it possible to get first place in the first race? It seems a shame that the best a TAS can do is second place.
2) In Skitchin', you get a substantial speed boost (~10 units, with 125 being max speed) when you perform a trick off of a ramp. Is that the case here as well? I notice you didn't use ramps much, but in the one instance I caught, your speedometer didn't increase. Still, you'll want to verify that you don't get a speed boost by looking at the RAM.
1) Some races are unbeatable without upgrading your equipment, even if the next few races afterwards you take first. It's just how the game is laid out and I'd rather have equipment that will let me win more races on-wards then sticking to cheaper equipment and draining my funds for one race.
2) There are NO tricks in this game. I only use ramps to either get around traffic or to make the race finishes look cooler. In fact, once you have a bike that can hit 170, you don't even want to go on a ramp at all, or even a hill for that matter because wind resistance starts to really take a toll on you. As soon as you're in the air, you begin to lose speed.

As I get closer to finishing the TAS, would you guys like for me to include the "no bike" bug in the game? It's where you are knocked off your bike by oncoming traffic, and then traffic basically steals your car as the bike is pushed forever and ever. It would ruin the race but it would look pretty funny.

I feel horrible suggesting this due to the length of the game, but I'm honestly curious: Could you consider running the game again and seeing if you can improve this run? Maybe compare track-by-track and see if you're improving previous times. My gut reaction is that there can be some improvements made, though I don't have any knowledge of the game to be able to confirm that without a lot of proper testing.
I've talked with a couple other judges about it and they think it's publishable, but I'd personally recommend giving it another go if you're up for it. Redoing runs once you're done with them is an extremely good habit to get into as a TASer, as you're guaranteed to find improvements over the run you just finished since you can compare to it easily.
I should really finish that TASing guide, shouldn't I...

Believe it or not, aside from the few stunts and inputting my name, this run is actually fairly optimized. I wouldn't mind redoing it in a month or two but I'm pretty burnt out from it at the moment. I'll probably get it published and work on a faster version using the promotional speed cheat that takes you to 220 mph +.
