To clarify, you can't go onto Pacifist if you've killed anything as Undyne refuses to have anything to do with you at that point. So, either TP can be done from one save OR neutral defeats the forced vulkin for level 4 to speed up Asgore. That's the only difference between TP and Neutral. Is that correct?
To the best of my knowledge, that is correct. Pacifist runs from that fight and has a slightly slower Asgore compared to Neutral, and other than that the Neutral part of Pacifist is identical to a Neutral run on its own.

De-Compiling and Re-Compiling the game with DirectInput instead of XInput may be considered too heavily modifying the game/engine for the site's liking, although this would be (in theory) the much easier option. Hey guys, just jumping in while I don't play Undertale at all. If you want to know if you can do that, I suggest asking on the tasvideos discord, you'll have a quick answer. The answer will probably be negative but you never know. Also good luck fiddling with hourglass, but Resurrection isn't even producing input files considered acceptable by tasvideos so I'd say don't use it for now to not get disappointed. Good luck guys!

Does it handle the game closing itself?

Well, no, but you could split up your inputs into two movie files, I guess. What would probably happen is that when the game closes, the tool will offer the user to save the movie until it closed. Then you could start a new movie and continue the game.

So essentially if you were to do this game optimally, you would need 3 movie files, one for everything up to Flowey, the Flowey fight, and after closing the game after the gun shoots clovers and reopening it to skip a cutscene. I do hope a TAS for this game is eventually made, but I hope the movie files are less messy than this.

Would actually need 4 files in Neutral cause you can reopen the game to save some time when choosing the FIGHT option at the end of the flowey fight. Would need 6 files for pacifist, counting everything from neutral. One more for reopening the game after entering the door after the flowey fight so you can complete the pacifist part. One last time at the end of the Asriel fight to save some walking before the ending cutscene.

Ah, that’s right. But with the limited tools, it’s more reasonable that just two movie files could be used, and just ignore skipping cutscenes by closing the game, since the time saved isnt that much. All that would need to happen is with the 2nd movie file, run the game with the game files flag set to the Flowey fight, and just TAS the game from that point. Still pretty messy, but much easier and more reasonable to do.

If we are still referring to a pacifist TAS, it would still need 3 minimum. Because we have flowey forcibly crashing the game, and then you have to close and reload the game to continue the true pacifist route after flowey.

I'm not sure if I'm really going to continue with this yet but I mainly wanted to try and TAS SOMETHING with libTAS for fun. So I did the intro to Undertale. Link to video Audio for some reason is pitched, I wonder if it's due to making this game playback at 30 fps rather than at 60. or maybe it's something with libTAS that should be fixed. Either way, I am happy I got a chance to do it.
