"The game's protagonist is Ashley Mizuki Robbins, a 13 year old girl who has been raised by her aunt, Jessica, because her parents vanished when she was three years old. She believed that they were dead, but two days before her fourteenth birthday, she received a package. Inside, was a letter from her father and a small machine. The letter said that he would be waiting on Blood Edward Island, an island located off the coast of Washington in the United States. The next day, the day before her birthday, Jessica and Ashley ride over to Blood Edward Island on a boat, but Ashley's father isn't there to greet them. Jessica goes to look for him, but when she doesn't return, Ashley ventures out to search for both of them. While exploring the island, Ashley also befriends "D", a ghost who has lost his memories. Together they enter the Edward Mansion, each looking for answers to their own questions."
In this run I ignored D's memory to complete the game as fast as possible
Emulator used: Desmume 0.9.9 for win64
Please change the "Y" button to letter I, and Microphone hotkey to letter I, because a puzzle in this game requires microphone to solve
This game is pretty fun to play and solve puzzles, but it's not quite interesting TAS, because half of the game is conversations, and for who haven't played this game yet, it's hard to follow, so I just submit it for the Vault :)

adelikat: No verdict? No addressing these issues? I'm sorry but this was not properly judged and I'm setting it back, this needs further conversation and a real attempt at judging.
Noxxa: Claiming for judgment.
Noxxa: Hoo boy, there's a lot of things going on here.
Let's start with the ROM choice. Hoandjzj, I'd like to make clear to you that European versions of games, while accepted, are not preferred for submissions. Please try in the future to be aware of what game versions are available, so that you can choose the best one with regards to our site policies. In general, aim to run on the USA versions of games whenever available.
On to the game choice itself: this is a fairly borderline game with regard to Vault rules on visual novel/point-and-click adventure story games. While a large part of the movie is just skipping through dialogue or other plot downtime going on, the game has enough bits of actual gameplay that can be optimized, so I'll say it is a publishable game in that way too. (It definitely won't have any chance at going any further than the Vault, though).
Onto the gameplay of the game - this is actually the bigger problem I have with this run. Especially the first ~1/3rd part of the run is problematic; it appears that half the time, you neglect to use touch input to move and use the arrow keys instead, which leads to visibly suboptimal paths. Upon testing, I found out within minutes that it's possible to save 20 frames within the first 5-6 seconds of gameplay, for instance, which makes further parts with arrow movement look terribly sloppy. It seems you realized this and use mostly touch movement after about a third of the run through, but it's still something that appears too sloppy in the beginning - especially for this type of game, where gameplay is as sparse as it is already. This makes me think this run needs a second pass to be acceptable for site standards. As such, I'm rejecting this run.

Why did you use the European version? It was released in North America under a different name (Trace Memory): http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/924898-trace-memory/data

I remember this game having a really quick shortcut to beating it fast… is that only NG+?

You might be thinking of Time Hollow, unless this game has that mechanic as well... If it does, then it'd have to be NG+.

I don't think that's really a relevant matter on a handheld system, compared to the old pal/ntfs console differences. On the topic of the game itself, since I own it, I don't really feel that it's an appropriate game for a tas but I'll check it out later.

If there aren't any gameplay differences that make it slower, European versions are fine for handhelds. I don't know this game, though.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Fair enough. As has been pointed out, it's a handheld game, so there are no differences with the frame rate between US and European releases.

Given that it's a handheld, this has to fall under the language preference rule. Which basically says that this movie can be obsoleted on [U] or on [E] (just like a movie on [U] could be obsoleted on [U] or on [E]), but the difference in time between the localizations (if any) doesn't count as part of the movie time for comparison. ([J] would be just as fine; I don't know whether there's a [J] version or not.)

... Is this a visual novel? Because, if so, it's not technically interesting enough to be considered

There's a Japanese version. アナザーコード 2つの記憶 (Another Code: 2tsu no Kioku) Speed differences? Heck if I know. But personally I'm fine with English going up first followed by Japanese. See Paper Mario.

So anything about the run itself?

I used to play a bit of this game some time ago. I'm kind of reluctant to watch the TAS all the way through in case I some day finish it. A TAS of this game doesn't look too superhuman since the gameplay is so simplistic. This isn't an entertaining TAS by any means, but I would like to think it is non-trivial enough to go in the vault.

I enjoyed watching this run. Even if a lot of it was the story, it was an interesting story and the game always looked really good visually. I expected the gameplay segments to look faster, but I understand there may be movement limitations for this type of game (to keep a more steady pace). I'm voting Yes.

[13:44:58] <Zeupar> Hmm... No verdict for that movie? [13:45:40] <Zeupar> Written verdict, that is. Honestly, I expected the judging verdict to at least address these points:
  • The run uses an [E] ROM where an [U] is available (handheld or not, it's at least something of note). There are movie rules about this. Exceptions can be made with good reason, but again, this needs to be addressed.
  • Addressing the following Vault rule:
    Vault rules wrote:
    • If a game consists of presenting a story, with little to no user creativity altering the game in any way, then it is unacceptable.
      • This includes games which are overwhelmingly made up of cut scenes, with little to no user interaction anywhere.
        • For example, Super Adventure Rockman.
      • Games which are of a Choose Your Own Adventure story book variety, where the user has no creative control beyond choosing between predefined choices.
How does this run compare to, say, Super Adventure Rockman? What makes it substantially different?
  • Addressing viewer feedback, what makes it Vault worthy or not, etc, the usual.
I'm not necessarily arguing against the judgment of this movie, but I do notice the verdict is lacking some things that really needed to be addressed.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. I would say that this run contains more interactive gameplay than Super Adventure Rockman. Moving around the game world and touching triggers as early as possible takes up at least a sixth of this movie, and all those gameplay segments had to be optimized by the TASer (they don't happen automatically).

Even though I feel stupid now, finding out it was suboptimal, but I'm still glad it was taken away from me, because I wouldn't find will to really test it like that, gosh.

The important thing to consider is whether it looks optimal. And in this case, as soon as you realize it's possible to use touch input without restricting yourself to 8 angles (which is first shown less than two minutes after gameplay starts), the parts where that isn't used look (and are) very suboptimal.
