Super Mario Advance 4 is the GBA remake of Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES. Now you have better graphics, musics and you can save your games. It is a 2D side-scrolling Jump and run game.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: vba-v24m-svn422
  • World 1 100%
  • Every Level + Toad Houses + Bonus games

Comments

I used a glitch to walk MUCH faster. You can do it by pressing left + right, it doesn't work on an unmodified game boy advance.

Stage by stage comments

Level 1

Slowdown at the end of the level, to get a STAR card, instead of a FLOWER card; getting a mushroom to be Super-Mario

Level 2

Getting the Tanookie

Level 3

-

Level 4

Some stunts

Fortress

Flying up to get the whistle

Level 5

Used some tricks to be faster

Level 6

Slowdown at the end, to get the STAR card instead of the FLOWER card

Air-ship

Some stunts; Glitched into the wall, so, im outside of the sreen, its faster

Nach: Hello, and welcome to TASVideos!
Official TAS publications are for runs which complete the game in question. This looks more like a work in progress. For works in progress, please upload them to our WIP section (userfiles), and link to them in our discussion forum, and discuss them with others users. Once you've gotten good feedback, and crafted a complete TAS, submit it here.

Hey, 'sup, welcome to the site. Um... It seems like you put a lot of effort into this movie, but unfortunately we don't accept movies that don't complete the entire game... You should keep working on the run until it's complete, maybe find the game's thread in the GBA Games subforum and post WIPs there for feedback! So... yeah! Um... Enjoy your time here! this is awkward

Aha. You're using a modified GBA what? And what does the 'Modified' GBA? Please explain me the different to the 'Original' one and the advantage(s).

How are you, JeyKey_55? Welcome to the community :) As Samsara stated above, one of the required conditions for submitting a run here is that the entire game you've TASed must be completed (i.e. must reach the game's ending). There's a number of general ways, or "branches" that this can be achieved:
any% (simply complete as fast as possible) 100% (include all of a game's extra, nonessential content) playaround (a run designed to primarily showcase entertainment value) <--- this one is held to a higher judging standard
There's also a few others, but those are the most common ones here. Also, as a newcomer, you should always check out the game's respective forum that you're TASing in order to ensure that you're beating a branch's current record. It's also a great way to obtain constructive feedback and meet other members. Hope to see a completed run from you in the future!

They're, um, talking about how you literally can't press left + right on any unmodified stock controller, but you can do that on emulator. Some games react wildly when left + right are pressed because stock controllers aren't built to allow both of them being pressed at once.

Hello JeyKey_55; welcome to TAS Videos. Unfortunately, there are a couple issues with your submission, some of which have already been mentioned.
  1. The Workbench is meant for movies being evaluated for publication, not for Works-In-Progress. If your movie is not complete or polished, consider posting in the relevant threads for the game and getting feedback there.
  2. As a general rule, movies must play the game to some degree of an ending. As SMB3 has a definite ending that can be reached in normal play, it can't receive a special exception.
  3. There are numerous SMB3 movies already; though they are not specifically for the GBA remake, most of the ground for this game has already been covered. Outside of running the eReader stages, you may be better off starting with one of the extant runs and going from there.
  4. While there is no extant 100% SMB3 movie on any platform, my understanding is that it would simply expect all stages and map encounters to be cleared. I'd advise checking with the SMB3 veterans on what would be expected out of a 100% SMB3 run.

The 100% TAS of the NES version is being worked hard on. We should have it down shortly. All levels and hammer brothers is the definition for 100% btw. You don't need the mushroom houses or the minigames. In fact, it's impossible to get them all because you don't have enough hammers.

The 100% of the NES game is being worked on. Not sure what this has to do with anything but ok. All x and all y is the set definition of Z% in a game without a % tracker is what I arbitrarily believe in btw. You don't need the things I personally think you don't. In fact, its impossible to define because you do not have enough persons opinion on the subjective definition.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/ChronoTrigger.html#100p
100% definition SDA defines 100% for Chrono Trigger as completing all sidequests that Gaspar (the guy at the End of Time) mentions, which are the following: -Cyrus's ghost -Rainbow Shell -Geno Dome -Sunstone -Ozzie's Fort -Sunken Desert -Yakra XIII -Black Omen
Most of the times, for games with no track of completion %, it's either exclusively stated which kind of full completion it is ("best ending", "all items"), or (rare case) it's just being agreed about by enough people, and not arbitrarily, but on some sane grounds. But I honestly don't remember any run without internal completion % labeled as 100% except Saturn's Chrono Trigger.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

JEYKEY 55 LURK MOAR BEFORE SENDING TAS
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Again, the GBA version doesn't really bring anything to the table as far as World 1 is concerned. If the GBA version is to be run, the eReader levels haven't been done yet.

Okay then, go do a 100% run of Tetris. The issue with this attitude is that then you get players who, like the run maker in this case, will then decide to attempt to do something that is numerically impossible (in this case, the numerically impossible thing is doing all the bonus games and toad houses - there aren't enough hammers to do it in one pass, and do you really want to watch someone TASing the Spade Houses?)

Well, even in games with a percent tracker 100% can be rather hard to decide. For example, in Kirby Super Star Ultra, beating Helper to Hero with every character doesn't increase the percent counter, but it unlocks a cutscene.

Going to the Mushroom Houses and playing the bonus games is unnecessary for 100%. But definitely get the Frog Suit from a Mushroom House in world 2. It can save you time in 3-1 and 3-2. Also save a frog suit for 4-4?

Frog suit takes way too much time to get compared to what it saves. Especially on the SNES or GBA version, as you have the left+right glitch to do in the water. And in 3-2 it has absolutely no effect, as you don't even touch the water... It saves a little bit of time in 3-F2, but again, takes too long to get to be worth it.

Others have already touched on the subject of the run breaking site rules so I will not say anymore on that regard. In any case, the GBA version would be best for the e-reader world levels. The NES version is better for anything else. I'm sorry to say, but I'm going with no on this.

I find it interesting how people are arguing "not enough hammers" in the version where the hammer brothers respawn after clearing all 90 levels. (It's actually possible to get stuck with hammers in your inventory and no way to use them.) ...then again the mushroom houses respawn at that point too, so there'd be no point to entering them for some arbitrary sense of completion. I'd also argue that this game does have a defined 100%-- it tells you when you have a "Perfect Clear" of each world, which is when you've cleared all levels in it (Piranha Plants/Hand Traps being considered levels, but not the wandering Hammer/Boomerang/etc Bros.), and when you do this for all 8 worlds, it gives you some stars on your save file and makes everything replayable.

There's no postgame content, so there's no real point in TASing more than one pass through the game just to get enough hammers.
