Wouldn't a glitch run like Genisto's of SMB3 be really awesome for this game? (a little off topic i know) Just saying that the SMB3 run was far more entertaining then either the any% run or the 100% and considering a TAS is made for entertainment i think the glitchfest category should be considered amongst most games, especially OoT. I'm sure there are tons of glitches and ways to entertain the viewer that never gets to be shown in an any% or 100% run? (Like that kokiri sword skip, thats exactly the kind of thing many viewers want to see) Just adding an opinion here =P

Luckily you inserted the statement at the end because it sounds like you're trying to make your statement sound like some definitive fact. Personally I think the SMB3 doesn't show much more of the game than what the warp or warpless shows other than the same glitches used in different places. If you really want to see a bunch of miscellanous glitches there is a ton of them on YouTube.

Yeah.. what really inspired me to make a no major skip or an all stones/medallions run of OoT was Kazooie's no major skip run and I wanted to see how fast it could possibly be done with all the possible tricks that could have been used and all the "TAS-only" tricks discovered since. So in that case I will include the Ganon trials. I actually showed a short video of a Rupee Route to SL not too long ago when I first started TASing under the YouTube name "Metal1Link", but i'm positive that this run I have going now is much more precise and optimal. So far I am just about to get the bombchus from the chest in the Spirit Temple as a kid and I have been working on it every now and then for about a month and a half now. Where can i upload the m64?

I can definitely see a no warps run being accepted if the level of play is up to the site standards. If the main run ever gets replaced by one with the RBA trick, it will be a good alternative to the glitched run.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/969947762/THE%20LEGEND%20OF%20ZELDA%20%28USA%29.m64 There are the obvious minor mistakes like the rare delaying after a sidehop but that improves as the run continues. Also consider the fact this is my first TAS besides a couple Rupee routes to get me started.

I've tried using varous settings and regardless of what I do the game always desyncs at the name entry screen. Have you played back the movie from the start to verify that the game syncs. Also you seemed to have enabled the rumble feature for this game.

TAS input, oot U 1.0, select MemPak in the controller settings and it worked for me.

I might make an mkv eventually if someone doesn't beat me to it (likely, since I haven't encoded in months). I just watched it and it looks really tight for a first-time tas. Comments: 1) Wouldn't it be faster to run to where Mido will eventually end up so he doesn't have to walk as far before you regain control (After getting kokiri emerald)? 2) The angle of the Superslide could have been retooled. 3) The superflips in the bridge room of the Spirit temple were pretty fucking sweet. 4) Was it necessary to get down to 1 heart so quickly? :(

Definitely one of the best first-time TASes I've seen. If you would have told me you were a senior TASer, I would had believed you, judging from this video. Very nice, keep it up. :)

That was awesome. You've clearly improved a lot since that time you showed me your m64 via YouTube. (although that was pretty good as well, given how new you were at the time) Anyway, great job, and I strongly urge you to continue this run until the end. I especially liked the superflip off the Stalfos. :) One thing I noticed that you did consistently wrong was in areas where you couldn't sidehop right away, i.e. after talking to Mido after beating the Deku Tree, you got ready to sidehop then sidehopped when the game let you. This is actually slower. It's faster to just backwalk (because the game lets you do that right away without waiting) and switching to sidehopping when the time is right. Overall though, well impressed. Good job.

Syncs with Direct64 plugin for those with glN64 problems. Be sure to enable mempack in the TAS plugin (though how it got enabled by the Boobiez I don't know). Personally, I'm not 100% on the goals for this run other than the somewhat arbitrary goal of "no major skips", so I'll just comment on the technical aspects for now. Looking pretty tight and refined so far. I was initially expecting clearly visible problems after you mentioned it was your first TAS and there were a few, but on playback I was pleasantly suprised :) TASed like a pro so far. Keep up the good work! I get the impression future OoT runs are going to require muted sound.... *sigh*

I'm surprised how optimized this is although it still lacks the polish that me and SL are capable of, but I doubt it would take that long for you to adapt. One error you've made is not getting 20 ruppees in the room where the enemy mirrors you. After the Spirit you should do Jabu next. Also no major skips in a way is kind of arbitary since there is clipping glitches in the Forest, Fire, Water and Spirit Temple which are useful. Although not skipping the trials to me would make sense since the idea of doing these dungeons is so that you can get the items which are essential to completing the trials. EDIT: If you're not doing RBA and ToT skip then you'd be better to get the bombchus from the well.

I'm surprised a single thread can hold this much ego. Sure would be nice to one day see AKA not be an elitist prick to every TASer around him.

Requesting a new tag, [ego][/ego] to be made for certain members of this forum. Everyone is capable of TASing. He knows where the optimization mistakes are. He just chose not to correct them. Oh, and it's "SL and I". Never put yourself first. Okay, I'm done.

If getting bombchus from the well is faster, how come the current submission doesn't do it?

Wow thanks a lot. SL I know exactly what you are talking about and I eventually discovered that it's faster to start by backwalking when I do it in the key chest room after the floormaster text. I just finished the Spirit Temple and besides very minor mistakes, one obvious mistake was that I forgot to get hurt down to half-heart before I warp out for the deathwarp, because I have to backflip off the ledge and THEN warp out, which costed me about a second since I didn't wanna go back and redo those megaflips. (manipulating those enemies for the megaflips took a very long time to figure out how to do it quickly) And about the ruppee, I didn't get it because the route I have planned out for the game involves me a couple other spots in the game to pick up 10 ruppees that wouldn't cost me any time. I think I'll post my child route later so that you all can tell me if it's optimal or not. I'd post it now but i'm not on my comp. I actually thought the superslide was angled almost perfectly, since I spent most of my time figuring out the fastest angle that involves me not having to slide on the fence. And AKA what exactly do you mean by "polish"? I know that some sidehops could be less delayed by a couple frames and some angle-changes could be a couple frames faster but I think i'm getting the hang of that but what exactly do you mean by polish? I can use all the advice I can get

I'm pretty sure it wasn't discovered at the time how to get the bombchus from the well quickly without having to use any bombs, but I'm almost positive it's faster to just get them from the spirit temple, or at least it's even. And with the discovery of megaflipping to the bomb chest, I don't think i'll be needing anymore than the 10 I get from the spirit temple.

I'm guessing you've never ventured into the Super Metroid thread then. To give it in easy mathematical terms: Sum ego of 10 of AKA's posts = sum ego of 1 of Saturn's posts. I'd also say that AKA's statement is correct despite being arrogant, both he and SL could have produced a faster .m64 if mimicking that movie, because they are both seasoned OoT TASers. But they are working on the any% aiming for extreme optimization, and this is a for fun done by someone new, so it's fine. To have a level of optimization I'm hearing about despite being so new is impressive, I'll have to check it out. About bombchus: It would be fastest to get from the well if only you could do the wall clip off the spider without needing zelda's lullabye. Learning that song has so many extra cutscenes that it's invariably faster to go to spirit temple.

Hmm, I'd have to take the egg from Malon and I wouldn't be able to do the moat skip. Also I'd have to wait x amount of time for the bridge to drop since it would be night when I got there. So I dont know.

Irrelevant. He added redundant information to his post. If he had written "I'm surprised how optimized this is despite this being your first TAS" then it would have worked fine. Similarly, if he had written "I'm surprised how optimized this is." It would have been okay too. Its the fact that he specifically decided to mention his superiority that bothers me.
